Red Sox's Chris Sale: Set for bullpen session

Sale (illness) will throw a bullpen session early Wednesday to help determine his potential availability for Thursday's Game 5 of the ALCS against the Astros, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Sale was released from the hospital Monday after being admitted to deal with a stomach illness a day prior. It will likely be a light session for the left-hander with Game 5 coming a day later. For what it's worth, Sale told manager Alex Cora, "I'm good enough [to pitch]" when asked about his health, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

  • Astros' Justin Verlander: Named Game 5 starter

Manager A.J. Hinch said Verlander will start Game 5 of the ALCS against the Red Sox on Thursday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

As expected, Verlander will get the ball for Game 5 after picking up a win in Game 1 with a quality outing. The ace is 2-0 with a 3.18 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB through two starts (11.1 innings) this postseason.

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Released from hospital

Sale (illness) was released from the hospital Monday and cleared to rejoin the Red Sox, Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports.

Sale is set to rejoin the Red Sox in Houston on Tuesday ahead of Game 3 of the ALCS after spending the night in the hospital with a minor illness. It's unclear if the southpaw will still get the ball for Game 5 on Thursday, as manager Alex Cora said the team will wait and see how Sale feels Tuesday before determining his next step.

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Avoids serious illness

Manager Alex Cora stated that Sale's illness is "nothing serious" and he's expected to join the team in Houston sometime Monday, Rustin Dodd of The Athletic reports.

Sale was admitted to a Boston hospital with a stomach illness Sunday, but after being observed for one night he's expected to rejoin the club. Assuming he doesn't suffer any further setbacks, Sale should remain on schedule to pitch Thursday in Game 5 as planned.

  • Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX

Red Sox's Nathan Eovaldi: To start Game 3 of ALCS

Eovaldi will start Game 3 of the ALCS against the Astros on Tuesday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Eovaldi put together a quality outing in his first start of the postseason, tossing seven innings while allowing one run and punching out five. With the series tied 1-1, manager Alex Cora will hand Eovaldi the ball in Houston against a stacked Astros lineup.

Red Sox's Chris Sale: In hospital with illness

Sale was admitted to the hospital due to a stomach illness Sunday, Rob Bradford of WEEI Sports Radio Network reports.

Sale wasn't at the ballpark for Game 2 of the ALCS against the Astros on Monday after being sent to the hospital. He'll be held overnight for observation and the extent of the illness has yet to be identified. Sale is currently scheduled to pitch Game 5, although that could change if the illness is deemed severe.

  • Charlie Morton SP | ATL

Astros' Charlie Morton: Draws Game 4 assignment

Morton will start Game 4 of the ALCS against the Red Sox on Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Morton was not needed during the Astros' ALDS sweep of the Indians, but with the ALCS being a best-of-7 series, he'll get the start for Game 4. No word has come forth as to whom he will face from Boston, but he'll have to get through a potent Red Sox offense in his home start Wednesday.

  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

Astros' Dallas Keuchel: Tabbed as Game 3 starter

Keuchel will start Game 3 of the ALCS against the Red Sox, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

This wasn't a matter of if, but rather a matter of when. Keuchel will now line up for the first game of the series taking place in Houston, though it's currently unclear who will take the ball for Boston. As things stand now, this would potentially line up the southpaw for a Game 7 assignment should the series last that long.

  • Gerrit Cole SP | NYY

Astros' Gerrit Cole: To pitch Game 2 vs. Boston

Cole will start Game 2 of the ALCS in Boston on Sunday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Cole will follow Justin Verlander in Houston's rotation and match up against David Price during Sunday's affair. During his start in the ALDS versus Cleveland on Saturday, Cole allowed just one run on three hits and zero walks while striking out 12 across seven innings to earn the win. In two outings against the Red Sox during the regular season, he gave up five earned runs in 13 innings while striking out 15.

  • Astros' Justin Verlander: Takes hill for Game 1 of ALCS

Verlander will start Game 1 of the ALCS against Boston on Saturday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Verlander will pitch Saturday's series opener on a few extra days of rest after earning the win in Game 1 of the ALDS versus the Indians on Friday. Manager A.J. Hinch confirmed that Gerrit Cole will follow Verlander in the rotation during the team's two-game set in Boston. Barring a sweep, Verlander will likely be back on the mound for Game 5 next Wednesday. In his one start against the Red Sox during the regular season, Verlander allowed two earned runs on three hits and a pair of walks while striking out six in six innings June 2.
