  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

Astros' Dallas Keuchel: Rocked by M's

Keuchel (11-11) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up five runs on six hits and two walks over five innings while striking out three as the Astros were routed 9-0 by the Mariners.

It marked the third time in his last 10 outings that the southpaw was tagged for five runs, but Keuchel's provided Houston with a quality start in the other seven. Barring any last-minute rotation shuffles to prepare for the playoffs, he's lined up for a potentially productive two-start week to close out the regular season, heading to Toronto on Tuesday before wrapping up the campaign in Baltimore on Sunday.

  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Fans 11 in no-decision

Carrasco didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the White Sox, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over 6.2 innings while striking out 11.

Despite his third double-digit strikeout performance in his last five starts and seventh of the year, Carrasco was on the hook for his 10th loss before Jason Kipnis came through with a walkoff grand slam. The right-hander is now only nine Ks shy of tying his career high of 226, set in 2017, and he's currently set to wrap up the regular season with two juicy matchups next week -- a road rematch against the White Sox on Monday, and another away start against the Royals on Saturday.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Yankees' Luis Severino: Cruises to win over Red Sox

Severino (18-8) picked up the win Wednesday against the Red Sox, allowing one run on six hits and one walk across seven innings. He struck out six.

Severino was in control throughout this one, allowing just one extra-base hit -- which resulted in the only run against him -- en route to his first win and quality start of the month. Prior to Wednesday's outing, the young right-hander hadn't completed seven innings since Aug. 8. Severino has now allowed just two runs over his last two starts (12.2 innings) and will look to carry the momentum into his next outing, which will come on the road against the Rays.

  • Tigers' Spencer Turnbull: Takes loss in first career start

Turnbull (0-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Twins, allowing six runs on six hits and a walk across four innings. He struck out two.

Turnbull struggled in his first career big-league start, allowing four runs in the second inning on a trio of singles, a walk and a balk before conceding another two runs in the fourth inning on a pair of RBI doubles. Despite the shaky results, it looks like Turnbull will get at least one more turn through the rotation with Michael Fulmer (knee) set to undergo season-ending knee surgery. He lines up for rematch against the Twins, this time in Minnesota.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Bullpen slated for Friday

Paxton (illness) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Friday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Paxton has been sidelined since Sept. 7 while battling pneumonia. He fired a successful bullpen session Tuesday and will throw another Friday before being reevaluated. The southpaw is still hoping to make two more starts before the end of the season, though he'll need to return early next week for that to happen.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Lined up for two more starts

Sale will make his next start Friday against the Indians, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Sale, who was originally scheduled to pitch Saturday, will make the start on normal rest thanks to an off day Monday. Pushing Sale's start up by a day lines the southpaw up to make another start -- Wednesday against the Orioles -- before the end of the season. He fired 42 pitches his last time out and is hoping to throw around 65 pitches Friday.

  • Michael Kopech SP | LAD

White Sox's Michael Kopech: Undergoes successful surgery

Kopech underwent successful Tommy John surgery Tuesday.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. Chicago's statement says that "Kopech is expected to make a full recovery in time to fully participate at spring training prior to the 2020 season," so it doesn't sound as though the White Sox have any thought of trying to get him back at the end of next season, which would have been a long shot at best.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Not listed among weekend's starters

Paxton (illness) is not listed among the Mariners' starters for their weekend series against the Rangers, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Paxton hasn't pitched since Sept. 7 while battling pneumonia. He tossed a bullpen session Tuesday but remains unready to rejoin the rotation. Unless he gets back Monday or Tuesday against Oakland, he'll end up making just one more start this year.

  • Shane Bieber SP | TOR

Indians' Shane Bieber: Will work out of bullpen Friday

Bieber is expected to work as the Indians' primary pitcher out of the bullpen Friday against the Red Sox, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Bieber has made all of his 18 big-league appearances thus far as a starter, but he'll try his hand at relief work this weekend while the Indians integrate Trevor Bauer (lower leg) back into the rotation. Since Bauer has been shut down since Aug. 11 and hasn't had a proper rehab assignment, he'll likely be limited to only a couple innings Friday, allowing Bieber to follow him and likely pitch the bulk of the game. Bieber could bump Josh Tomlin from the rotation next week and make one final start before the regular season ends, but manager Terry Francona hasn't elaborated on his plans for the rookie just yet.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Throws bullpen session

Paxton (illness) threw a lengthy bullpen session at Minute Maid Park prior to Tuesday's game against the Astros, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander continues to progress from his bout with pneumonia, with the robust workload he put in Tuesday certainly a good sign. Paxton remains on track to potentially rejoin the starting rotation this coming weekend in Arlington against the Rangers.
