  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Takes loss despite quality start

Carrasco (16-9) took the loss Wednesday against the Rays, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks across seven innings. He struck out five.

It was an unfortunate loss for Carrasco, as Blake Snell carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning opposite him. The right-hander served up a two-run homer to Ji-Man Choi in the first inning but settled in from there, allowing just one run over the next six innings to secure his second consecutive quality start. He'll carry a 3.43 ERA into his next start, which will come at home against the White Sox.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Carries no-hitter into seventh, claims 19th win

Snell (19-5) picked up the win Wednesday against the Indians, allowing one run on one hit and two walks while striking out nine across seven innings.

Snell was dominant in this one, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning before serving up a leadoff solo homer to Jose Ramirez. He's now won seven straight, and his 19 wins are the most in the majors. The southpaw also owns an impressive 2.03 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 10.7 K/9 through 28 starts this season, putting him firmly in the AL Cy Young discussion. He'll look to keep it rolling in his next start, which will come on the road against the Rangers.

  • Gerrit Cole SP | NYY

Astros' Gerrit Cole: Gets win No. 14

Cole (14-5) allowed two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out nine to pick up the win against Detroit on Wednesday.

Cole labored in this one, throwing first-pitch strikes to just 13 of 23 batters, needing 99 pitches to get his five innings. He expended 50 of those pitches in the second and third innings. He hung in long enough for Houston's bats to give him a lead when he left, enabling him to claim his third win in his last four starts. He's next scheduled to pitch Tuesday at home against the Mariners.

  • Charlie Morton SP | ATL

Astros' Charlie Morton: Next start pushed to Saturday

Morton's next start will be pushed back to Saturday against Arizona, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Morton will operate on an extra two days of rest after he returned from the disabled list and started last Saturday against Boston. The 34-year-old is approaching career highs in starts and innings and is also having the best season of his career. Morton has a career-low 3.15 ERA and a career-high 188 strikeouts (10.8 K/9).

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Will miss next start with illness

Paxton has a virus and will not travel with the Mariners to Los Angeles, where he had been scheduled to start Friday against the Angels, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

It's unclear if Paxton will simply have his start pushed back a few days or if he'll miss a full turn in the rotation. The Mariners will most likely go with a bullpen day in his absence.

  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Rays' Tyler Glasnow: Takes tough-luck loss versus Cleveland

Glasnow (1-6) allowed two runs on six hits with no walks across seven innings to take the loss Tuesday against Cleveland. He struck out three.

Glasnow threw 73 percent of his pitches for strikes and induced 10 groundball outs. He avoided handing out a walk for the second time in a start this season and was only scored upon via a pair of solo home runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Glasnow was rocked for seven earned runs in less than an inning of work in his previous start, so this was a terrific sign for the former top prospect as he regains his confidence as a starter. He's scheduled to take the mound again next week against the Rangers.

  • Shane Bieber SP | TOR

Indians' Shane Bieber: Strikes out 11 in dominant win

Bieber (10-3) tossed 6.2 scoreless innings Tuesday to earn the win over the Rays, allowing three hits with three walks and 11 strikeouts.

Bieber didn't allow a runner past first base through the first six innings and set a new career high in strikeouts on the day. He ran into a bit of trouble in the seventh, conceding a double and a walk before his removal, but Brad Hand was on hand to end the threat. Bieber has now delivered back-to-back quality starts while posting a solid 17:4 K:BB over 13 innings in his last two. He'll look to build on this gem of an outing this weekend against the Tigers.

  • Marco Gonzales RP | TEX

Mariners' Marco Gonzales: Allows one in no-decision

Gonzales allowed one run on four hits while recording two strikeouts over five innings in Tuesday's loss to the Padres. He did not factor into the decision.

Gonzales was limited to just 66 pitches (45 strikes) in his first start since landing on the disabled list with a strained neck, but he made the most of it with a productive outing. The lefty hasn't issued a walk in four of his last five starts and sports a stellar 130:28 K:BB over 150.2 innings for the season. He'll take a 4.24 ERA into Sunday's start against the Angels.

  • Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX

Red Sox's Nathan Eovaldi: Next start scheduled for Tuesday

Eovaldi will make his next start Tuesday against the Yankees, Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports.

Eovaldi pitched 3.2 innings Tuesday after Chris Sale pitched one inning to open the game. With Sale making his return from injury, the Red Sox wanted to go easy on the left-hander and had Eovaldi serve as the primary pitcher. His role going forward had been somewhat unclear, but it looks like he'll return to Boston's rotation for the remainder of the regular season.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Yankees' Sonny Gray: Takes loss in short start

Gray (10-9) allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits in a loss to the Twins on Tuesday, recording two strikeouts and three walks in three innings.

The runs against Gray came in the third inning on a passed ball and a two-run single by Jake Cave as Gray needed 63 pitches (36 strikes) to get through three innings. This was Gray's second start since Aug. 2 (the last start coming Aug. 25), and he's made five appearances out of the bullpen in that span. This appears to be a spot start for the right-hander and it seems likely he'll be returning to the bullpen going forward.
