  • Andrew Heaney RP | LAD

Angels' Andrew Heaney: Takes hill against Royals

Heaney (elbow) will be activated from the 10-day disabled list and pitch against Kansas City on Friday, 610 Sports Radio - Kansas City reports.

Heaney will make his 2018 debut after pitching six inning for High-A Inland Empire on Friday and tossing a bullpen session earlier this week. He will go up against a struggling Royals club that has scored a major-league worst 32 runs and is hitting just .226 collectively.

  • JC Ramirez SP | LAA

Angels' JC Ramirez: Will undergo Tommy John surgery

Ramirez (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery on Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of the Southern California News Group reports.

Ramirez suffered a torn UCL in his right elbow after leaving his start against Oakland on Saturday with forearm tightness. He will miss the rest of the campaign and could spend some time on the disabled list to begin the 2019 season.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Yankees' Sonny Gray: Gets roughed up Thursday

Gray (1-1) allowed six runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out three across three innings to take the loss Thursday against the Red Sox.

Gray didn't appear comfortable on the mound Thursday, starting just 9-of-21 batters with a strike and generating only four swinging strikes. He was also the victim of several weakly hit singles and a fielding blunder by Giancarlo Stanton. The positive to be taken from this start was that he didn't allow a home run -- something that has plagued him in the past. Gray has been decent, if unspectacular, to begin the season and he'll look to bounce back in his next start, which is likely to come against the Marlins on Tuesday.

  • Jose Berrios SP | TOR

Twins' Jose Berrios: Shuts out White Sox

Berrios (2-1) got the win in a dominant showing against the White Sox on Thursday, giving up three hits over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking none in Minnesota's 4-0 victory.

After giving up five runs against the Mariners in his last outing, Berrios was brilliant in this one, baffling the White Sox to the tune of 11 punch-outs on 99 pitches. The dud against Seattle hasn't put a dent in what has been a ridiculous start for the 23-year-old right-hander, who now sports a 2.18 ERA and a microscopic 0.63 WHIP in part thanks to a stellar 24:1 K:BB through his first 20.1 innings. It's still too early to declare this a breakout campaign but if Berrios continues to light it up like this, he could very well be headed for one.

  • White Sox's Lucas Giolito: Throws quality start Thursday

Giolito (0-2) allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and five walks over 6.1 innings in Thursday's 4-0 loss to the Twins.

It's hard for Giolito to win games when his mates muster three singles in support, but the right-hander once again failed to command consistently and often pitched with men on base. Manager Rick Renteria talked to Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune about the cool April weather messing with Giolito's grip, which may have a role in his 12 walks over 18 innings. Giolito will look for better feel, and hopefully weather, in his next start Tuesday in Oakland.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Transferred to 60-day DL

Rodon (shoulder) was moved to the 60-day disabled list Thursday.

Though this move doesn't come as a surprise, it does guarantee that Rodon will not return to the mound for the White Sox until the late May/early June timetable that has been in play since the left-hander reported to spring training. Rodon has continued to work back from September shoulder surgery, as he's resumed throwing bullpen sessions in recent weeks. In a corresponding move, Chicago purchased the contract of Chris Volstad, who began the year with Triple-A Charlotte.

  • Jesus Luzardo SP | PHI

Athletics' Jesus Luzardo: Fans career-best 10 batters

Luzardo struck out a career-high 10 batters Wednesday while allowing one run on two hits and three walks over five innings for High-A Stockton.

The five innings matched a career high for the 20-year-old southpaw. He now has 16 strikeouts in 9.2 innings this season, leading the California League with a 42.1 percent strikeout rate. Luzardo already looks like he needs more of a challenge, so expect a promotion to Double-A in the coming weeks.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Orioles' Kevin Gausman: Snags first win against Jays

Gausman (1-1) allowed three runs on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over six innings in a win Wednesday over the Blue Jays.

Gausman lasted into the sixth inning for the first time in three starts, a great sign for an Orioles team that will need him to go deeper in games as the year progresses. He generated 14 swinging strikes in 106 pitches, and that swing-and-miss ability was the key to Gausman's ability to work around three walks. Gausman still has an ugly 6.60 ERA, but this was a step in the right direction.

  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Wins again behind complete game

Carrasco (3-0) earned a complete-game victory Wednesday against Detroit as he allowed just one run on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

Despite the fact that he already has three wins this season, this was Carrasco's first time lasting beyond the sixth inning. He used 110 pitches (76 strikes, 15 swinging) and faced just four at-bats with runners in scoring position. The only run came on Leonys Martin's sixth-inning home run. Carrasco owns a 3.48 ERA with a clean 14:3 K:BB.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Fans 10 in no-decision

Paxton allowed two runs on six hits and one walk across six innings in a no-decision Wednesday against the Royals. He struck out 10.

Paxton seems to have found a groove after struggling in his season opener, as he's allowed just four runs over his last 11 innings while also compiling a 17:2 K:BB during that stretch. A two-out double from Cheslor Cuthbert plated a pair of runs in the fourth inning, which tied the game up and kept him from receiving a decision, but otherwise the southpaw was sharp Wednesday. He'll look to keep things rolling as he lines up for two starts next week (4/16 vs. HOU, 4/21 @ TEX).
