  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Tagged for four homers in defeat

Sale (17-8) suffered a loss at the hands of the Blue Jays on Tuesday after allowing five runs on eight hits -- half of which left the yard -- over five innings. He struck out eight, walked two and hit a batter.

The end result was unfortunate, but Sale's 2017 strikeout total is now up to 308. With a playoff spot on lock, the Sox may use someone else when the ace lefty's turn comes up again Sunday, giving him some extra rest for the playoffs. If that is indeed what transpires, Sale will finish with a 2.90 ERA and 0.97 WHIP as well as the fifth-highest whiff count of the current millennium.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Orioles' Kevin Gausman: Tagged for six runs in loss to Pirates

Gausman (11-11) allowed six runs on five hits and two walks across four innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Pirates. He struck out five.

Gausman allowed two runs on three hits in the first inning, but the big hit came in the form of a grand slam by Andrew McCutchen in the fourth. He worked up to 83 pitches as he finished the inning but wasn't brought back out for the fourth. Gausman delivered perhaps his best start of the year his last time out, but this collapse is somewhat representative of his season. He isn't scheduled to start again this year and will look to get back to the drawing board ahead of the 2018 campaign.

  • Angels' Parker Bridwell: Grabs ninth win Tuesday

Bridwell (9-3) was credited with the win in Tuesday's game against the White Sox. He allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one over 6.2 innings.

Bridwell served up two solo shots to Jose Abreu on Tuesday, but was otherwise effective in his 6.2-inning outing. He was sitting at 79 pitches when he was lifted from the game after allowing three of the first four batters of the seventh inning to reach base. The quality start moved his ERA to a solid 3.87 mark, but he has now recorded just two strikeouts over his past two starts. He lines up for a final regular-season start Sunday against the Mariners.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Allows four runs in loss to Yankees

Snell (4-7) allowed four runs on four hits and four walks across one inning while taking the loss Tuesday against the Yankees. He struck out one.

Snell tossed a scoreless first inning, but he endured a miserable second from which he was ultimately pulled with nobody out after allowing the first six men to reach. The bullpen finished the frame, but not before four runs were hung on the lefty's ledger. This poor start came on the heels of perhaps Snell's best outing of the season. He will look to finish on a strong note Sunday against the Orioles.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Rays' Alex Cobb: Won't make final start

Cobb will have his final start of the season skipped, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Cobb was scheduled to take on the Yankees on Thursday, but manager Kevin Cash has decided to shut down the 29-year-old during the final week of the season to ensure that he closes out the year with a clean bill of health. In his first full season back following Tommy John surgery, Cobb posted a solid 3.66 ERA (4.15 FIP) over 179.1 innings, which was the biggest workload of his career. Jacob Faria will now start Thursday's game in his place.

  • Andrew Heaney RP | LAD

Angels' Andrew Heaney: Completes bullpen session

Heaney (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and said afterward that it went well, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

He has been out for more than two weeks with an impingement in his shoulder. It sounds like Heaney wants to start another game before the end of the season, and Tuesday's activity was step toward achieving that goal, but there is currently no set date for his return to action. The lefty has really struggled with the long ball this season, giving up 12 homers in just 21.2 innings with the big club.

  • White Sox's Lucas Giolito: Done for season

Manager Rick Renteria said Giolito will not make another start this season, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

Giolito racked up a combined 174 innings this season -- up from his 136 innings in 2016 -- and the White Sox want to preserve his arm. The 23-year-old bounced back after struggling to a 6.75 ERA in his first taste of the majors last season, compiling an impressive 2.38 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 45.1 innings for the White Sox this year. After displaying flashes of why he was once a top pitching prospect, Giolito could be poised for a breakout campaign in 2018. He should be on track to toss around 200 innings next season.

  • Andrew Albers SP | MIN

Mariners' Andrew Albers: Grabs three-inning save Monday

Albers was credited with the save Monday against the Athletics after allowing just two hits and a walk across three innings of work.

The southpaw piggybacked with Felix Hernandez after the latter reached his pitch count, and he was rewarded with his first career save. Albers now has a career-best 3.19 ERA and will look to improve that further as he works in long relief over the final week of the season.

  • Ricky Nolasco SP | ARI

Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Takes 15th loss Monday

Nolasco (6-15) allowed four runs -- two earned -- on seven hits and a walk while striking out four batters through five innings to take the loss against the White Sox on Monday.

While Nolasco has now allowed just six earned runs through 16 innings over his last three starts, he still sports a crippling 5.02 ERA and 1.45 WHIP for the campaign. Further discouraging, the 34-year-old righty is also without a win since Aug. 16. Nolasco projects to make his final start of the season against Seattle at Angel Stadium.

  • Yankees' Jordan Montgomery: Slated to start Tuesday

Montgomery will start Tuesday's game against the Rays, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.

Montgomery will toe the rubber for Tuesday's series opener against the Rays after he was scratched from his original start over the weekend. With Montgomery pitching Tuesday, the Yankees could also send him out for a second start on Sunday (the final game of the regular season) if they aren't playing for anything meaningful, which would allow Luis Severino to be saved for the wild-card game. The rookie owns a respectable 4.06 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 136:49 K:BB through 144 innings (27 starts) this season.
