Angels' JC Ramirez: Without timetable for return

Ramirez, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday with a right forearm strain, is without a timetable for a return, J.P. Hoonstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports. "[Ramirez is] in a no-throw situation as we assess his strength," Angels general manager Billy Eppler said.

After working out of the bullpen in his first three seasons in the big leagues, Ramirez has surprisingly emerged as a key cog in the Angels' rotation while converting to a starting role in 2017. Though his 4.15 ERA and 6.4 K/9 rate aren't anything special, Ramirez's mere competence while eating 147.1 innings for the Angels has been quite valuable for a pitching staff that has been decimated by injuries. It now looks like the Angels will have to dig further into their limited starting pitching depth to replace Ramirez, whose potential return date likely won't be established until he's cleared to start throwing again. Triple-A Salt Lake starter Troy Scribner could be the top candidate to fill the void when Ramirez's next turn in the rotation comes up Thursday against the Rangers.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Rangers' Cole Hamels: Goes seven against Angels for ninth win

Hamels (9-1) allowed two runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts over seven innings to earn the win Monday against the Angels.

Hamels has now thrown quality starts in four of his last five appearances, a stretch in which he owns a 4-0 record and a 2.31 ERA. He was extremely efficient Monday night, needing just 92 pitches to finish his seven frames. The Rangers have been keeping the veteran lefty under 90 pitches whenever possible since his return in late June. While he could be going deeper into games, it's hard to argue with the strategy, given Hamels' recent success.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Fans five in no-decision

Rodriguez allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters through 5.2 innings during Monday's loss to Cleveland. He didn't factor into the decision.

The young lefty has struggled to find consistency since returning from the disabled list July 17; he posted a 4.78 ERA and 1.47 WHIP during that six-game stretch even before Monday's uninspiring outing. Rodriguez has maintained an excellent strikeout rate all season (9.8 K/9), and pitching for a winning team is an added bonus. However, considering his recent form, it's not out of the question to use him conservatively according to his matchups. Rodriguez projects to face the Orioles at Fenway Park in his next start.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Indians' Mike Clevinger: Fails to pitch out of fifth frame

Clevinger allowed four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four batters during Monday's win over Boston. He didn't factor into the decision.

The last time Clevinger faced Boston, he allowed five runs through three innings, so this was another underwhelming outing against the Red Sox. Still, there have been more solid outings than poor ones, and the 26-year-old righty sports a 3.97 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 10.1 K/9 for the campaign. With Cleveland in contention, Clevinger projects to continue moving the fantasy needle across all categories. He lines up to face the Royals at Progressive Field in his next start.

  • Andrew Albers SP | MIN

Mariners' Andrew Albers: Improves to 2-0 with win over Braves

Albers (2-0) allowed four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and a walk while striking out three batters during Monday's win over Atlanta.

This was just the second start of the season for the 31-year-old veteran, as he's spot starting for the Mariners while James Paxton (pectoral) is on the disabled list. Albers posted an excellent 2.61 ERA through 120.2 innings with Triple-A Gwinnett, but he projects to boast only fleeting fantasy value even in deep settings. He'll next start in a Sunday matinee at Yankee Stadium.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Orioles' Wade Miley: Tosses quality start in win over Athletics

Miley (7-10) allowed two runs on five hits and four walks across six innings to earn the win Monday against the Athletics. He struck out six.

Miley allowed a run as three consecutive men reached in the third inning, but he cruised through the next few frames and was only scored upon via a solo home run. He threw just 53 percent of his pitches for strikes, but eight groundball outs and some timely put-aways propelled him to a quality start. Miley has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five starts; he'll look to keep up his solid form next Monday against the Mariners.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Strikes out nine in win over Twins

Rodon (2-4) struck out nine over 6.1 innings to earn the win Monday against the Twins. He allowed two runs on four hits and three walks.

Rodon was effective at putting hitters away in this one, as he piled up the punchouts despite inducing a pedestrian 12 swinging strikes and throwing 63 percent of his pitches for strikes. He gave up single runs in the first and sixth inning and was only removed due to an elevated pitch count in the seventh. Rodon has now delivered five consecutive quality starts, posting an impressive 48:12 K:BB during that span. He'll take a 3.88 ERA into Saturday's start against the Tigers.

  • Tim Melville SP | BAL

Twins' Tim Melville: Hit hard in debut against White Sox

Melivlle (0-1) allowed five runs on four hits and three walks across 3.1 innings to earn the loss Monday against the White Sox.

Melville, who held his own through the first three innings of his season debut, struggled in the fourth, when he allowed a three-run home run to Yolmer Sanchez with one out. He was laboring at that point to the tune of 82 pitches -- partly due to a hefty 29 foul balls by the opposition -- and was removed in favor of the bullpen. Melville's line was inflated by the big hit, but this performance did not help his bid to make another spot start this Saturday.

  • JC Ramirez SP | LAA

Angels' JC Ramirez: Placed on 10-day disabled list

Ramirez (forearm) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday night, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Ramirez has been progressing from his forearm injury, but he'll still miss at least his next scheduled start. At this point, there's been no indication that Ramirez will miss more than the requisite 10 days, but forearm injuries are always scary for pitchers. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday; more should be known once those results come in.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Cleared to begin throwing

Paxton (pectoral) is expected to begin throwing Tuesday or Wednesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Once Paxton begins his throwing program, a time frame for his eventual return should begin to take shape. When he's set to rejoin Seattle's rotation, he'll look to resume what's otherwise been a fantastic season -- prior to hitting the DL, Paxton built a 2.78 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over 20 starts.
