  • Yankees' James Kaprielian: Undergoes successful T.J. surgery

Kaprielian (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery Tuesday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Kaprielian will miss the entirety of the 2017 campaign while he rehabs his surgically repaired elbow in hopes of returning to full strength in 2018.

  • Chris Bassitt SP | BAL

Athletics' Chris Bassitt: Scheduled for another simulated inning Wednesday

Bassitt (elbow) is scheduled to throw two simulated innings at extended spring training Wednesday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Bassitt will throw 15 pitches per simulated inning. The 28-year-old seems to be progressing well and should be ramping up for a rehab assignment sooner than later.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Athletics' Sonny Gray: Slated for rehab start Saturday

Gray (back) will throw 45-60 pitches in a rehab start with High-A Stockton on Saturday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

Gray has been ramping up his rehab program by throwing live bullpen sessions and appearing in an extended spring training game during the past couple of weeks. Saturday's minor-league start marks one of his last hurdles before being able to return to the majors. It's possible that the 27-year-old will need an additional minor-league start, but he's not far from his anticipated big-league return.

  • Alec Asher SP | MIL

Orioles' Alec Asher: May head to bullpen

Asher may head to the bullpen instead of making another start over the weekend, Eduardo Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Asher allowed just one run through 6.1 innings while striking out five during his first start with the Orioles, however it remains unclear whether he will start another game or head to the bullpen. The Orioles should confirm their plan with the 25-year-old sometime in the coming days.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Could rejoin Red Sox Wednesday

Rodriguez could be activated from the paternity list Wednesday, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.

If the Red Sox deplete their relief options Tuesday, Rodriguez could be available out of the bullpen for Wednesday's game, but otherwise he will likely return to the Red Sox on Thursday. Given that the Red Sox don't have plans to switch their rotation, Rodriguez's next start upon activation should come Sunday, April 23 against the Orioles.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Still not tossing off mound

Rodon still hasn't progressed to throwing off a mound, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

Rodon is reportedly making progress, but the White Sox are taking no chances with the 24-year-old. He's still set to be reevaluated during Chicago's upcoming homestand, at which point there should be a clearer timetable for his return. Given how slow the White Sox are moving him along, it wouldn't be too surprising if he overshot his mid-May return date. Dylan Covey will continue to fill in as the fifth starter until Rodon returns.

  • Frankie Montas RP | NYM

Athletics' Frankie Montas: Bounces back from rough outing

Montas fired two scoreless innings in Monday's 7-0 loss to the Rangers, allowing a hit and a walk while recording two strikeouts.

On a night when the offense disappointed yet again, the 24-year-old right-hander's effort was a high point. Montas encouragingly bounced back from his poorest outing of the season, a one-inning stint against the Astros on Saturday in which he gave up two earned runs on three hits over one inning. Monday's two-inning stint was Montas' longest since he worked 2.2 innings in his first appearance of the season back on April 5, and it also marked his first multi-strikeout appearance. The hard-throwing reliever lowered his ERA by over a full run to 3.24 as well, and given his quick return to action after the aforementioned hiccup two nights prior, it appears he has the confidence of manager Bob Melvin.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Still winless after Monday's outing

Gibson (0-2) allowed three runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out two over 5.1 innings in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Indians.

Gibson will carry a 6.91 ERA into his next start, and the 29-year-old right-hander has a disappointing 9:5 K:BB after three starts. He's allowed at least three runs in each of his three starts to begin the year. Gibson's an average arm at best, and he's also an injury risk after suffering from a sore shoulder in 2016 following Tommy John surgery. Aside from AL-only leagues, there's not a whole lot to like about Gibson in fantasy.

  • Yankees' Jordan Montgomery: Collects first career win

Montomery (1-0) allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three batters over six innings during Monday's win over the White Sox.

After a solid debut against the Rays, Montgomery followed it up with another serviceable outing Monday. While he has little experience above Double-A, the 24-year-old lefty hasn't looked out of place through his first two starts with the Yankees. He projects to make a road start against the Pirates on Saturday, which should be a telling test for the freshman.

  • Charlie Morton SP | ATL

Astros' Charlie Morton: Earns first win of 2017

Morton (1-1) allowed five hits while walking two and striking out three over five scoreless innings in Monday's 3-0 win over the Angels.

A popular sleeper pick this spring, Morton's held the opposition to three or fewer runs in all three of his starts, leading to a 2.81 ERA and 7.3 K/9 in 16 innings. He's starting to gain more traction in mixed leagues, as this was his best start yet. An increase in velocity following a serious hamstring injury last year has helped his strikeout numbers, and his excellent groundball rate should keep him relevant all year. Morton finishes off his two-start week against the Rays this Saturday.
