  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Tosses another bullpen

Rodon tossed his second bullpen session of the spring Sunday, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

Rodon will get a couple of days off before throwing a live batting-practice session Wednesday and then another Saturday. Soon after that second BP session, he could make his spring debut in a game. The left-hander will be on a tight schedule, but the White Sox feel he'll be ready to go for the first turn of the rotation during the regular season.

  • Michael Kopech SP | LAD

White Sox's Michael Kopech: Has scheduled start scratched

Kopech will work with White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper during the team's off-day Tuesday, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

Kopech had been scheduled to start Sunday but was bumped to Tuesday so that he could get some instant feedback and instruction from Cooper, Chicago's pitcher whisperer. The right-hander allowed four runs over one inning in his first spring start, and while the coaches felt he looked much better after reviewing the film, they thought it best to put him in a controlled environment with Cooper.

  • Alex Meyer SP | LAA

Angels' Alex Meyer: Solid in spring debut

Meyer fired a pair of scoreless innings in his Cactus League debut Wednesday. He walked a pair and struck out one.

Meyer -- who has reworked his delivery this offseason -- is trying to make the Angels' rotation out of camp. The shorter delivery was implemented to take the stress off of his shoulder, which has given him issues in the past. The 2011 first-round pick made five starts for the Angels last season after coming over in a trade from Minnesota, posting a 4.57 ERA with a 1.9 K/BB ratio in those five starts. Meyer is considered a dark horse in the battle for the Angels' fifth starter spot, but a strong spring would go a long way in improving his chances to making the 25-man roster, even as a reliever.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Uneven effort in spring debut

Paxton surrendered two earned runs on three hits and one walk over two innings in Saturday's 4-3 Cactus League win over the Rockies. He struck out two.

The Mariners' projected No. 3 starter fired 40 pitches over his time on the mound, with his performance a tale of two contrasting frames. Paxton yielded a two-run homer to Ian Desmond in the fourth after having surrendered a double to DJ LeMahieu earlier in the inning, but he came back to whiff Trevor Story with a man on to close things out. The 28-year-old then pitched a scoreless fifth, retiring LeMahieu with Charlie Blackmon on to wrap up his initial spring appearance. Paxton will move into his normal spot in the rotation and draw the start against the Cubs on Thursday, which he feels will help with his performance. "I'll definitely be ready for three innings next time. It felt a little bit off there. My timing wasn't very good. But that will come. I'll go back to work and get ready for the next one."

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Throws first bullpen

Rodon threw his first bullpen session of the spring Friday, despite having an upset stomach, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. "It was good to finally be back up there again," Rodon said. "It's been a while, but it felt good to get back up there. It's tough with a little stomach thing, but we still got it done."

Rodon said he was feeling better Saturday and is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Sunday. The White Sox are bringing the left-hander along slowly during spring training after he experienced some fatigue in 2016.

  • White Sox's Lucas Giolito: PItches better in second spring outing

Giolito allowed one hit and struck out three over three scoreless innings in Saturday's game against the Angels.

Giolito was much improved over his first spring outing, noting the improved velocity in his fastball and being more comfortable with more reps.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Astros' Joe Musgrove: Tosses three scoreless Saturday

Musgrove allowed two hits and a walk while striking out two over three innings in Saturday's game against the Mets.

The 24-year-old right-hander, who is competing with Mike Fiers to be the Astros' fifth starter, was better during his second spring outing. He noted better command of his slider and improved location of his fastball.

  • Astros' Lance McCullers: Scheduled to start Thursday

McCullers (elbow) will make his Grapefruit League debut Thursday against the Cardinals, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

McCullers is expected to throw two innings in what will be his first real game action since last August. His pitch count will be in the 40 to 45 range, so the right-hander could throw more innings if he's efficient. During a simulated game Saturday, McCullers was able to ramp up his fastball to 93 to 95 mph.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Sharp in relief outing Saturday

Snell struck out two and gave up one earned run on one hit over 2.2 innings in Saturday's 1-0 Grapefruit League loss to the Orioles.

Snell was much sharper in what was his second time on the mound this spring, allowing the only run of the game on a groundout by Logan Schafer in the seventh. The 24-year-old lefty fired just under 50 pitches, getting a solid workload in and impressing manager Kevin Cash in the process. "Really liked the way Blake threw,'' Cash said. "He had everything getting over the plate, that was great to see for him.''

  • Twins' Adalberto Mejia: Encouraging start to spring training

Mejia threw 1.2 scoreless innings with a strikeout in Saturday's spring training win over Toronto. He's given up one run in 3.2 innings with two strikeouts this spring as he contends for the fifth starter role. "I'm still open-minded," manager Paul Molitor told the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Mejia will compete with Jose Berrios, Tyler Duffey, Trevor May, Justin Haley, Ryan Vogelsong and Nick Tepesch for the final spot in the rotation. Mejia is a long shot and will likely begin the season at Triple-A, but a strong spring could put him on the short list to be called up early in the season.
