  • Jose Berrios SP | TOR

Twins' Jose Berrios: Lasts 4.2 innings in Tuesday's no-decision

Berrios pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and one walk while failing to record a strikeout in Tuesday's no-decision versus Kansas City.

The no-decision leaves Berrios without a win in his last eight starts. His last victory (Aug. 1 at Cleveland) happens to also be the 22-year-old's only quality start in 13 tries this season. Making things worse, Tuesday's performance marked the first time that the rookie failed to notch a strikeout all year. If there's a bright side to Berrios' most recent performance, it would be the fact he didn't allow a home run for the first time in five starts. The righty also allowed just one free pass after issuing 17 over his last 20.2 innings. Berrios remains Minnesota's top pitching prospect, but his struggles in the majors this season have put winning a spot in the rotation next spring in doubt.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Indians' Corey Kluber: To have MRI Tuesday

Kluber (groin) will have an MRI on Tuesday, but the Indians don't expect him to miss much time, if any, MLB Network Radio reports.

He left Monday's start early with what has been labeled a minor groin issue, but more information should be available later Tuesday or Wednesday morning. The Indians don't seem to think the injury is serious, but there is little reason for them to rush him back this weekend, as they have already clinched the division.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Rays' Drew Smyly: Gives up three runs in loss to White Sox

Smyly (7-12) allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts over five innings in the loss Monday against the White Sox.

Smyly has completed six innings just once in his past five starts and has allowed 30 hits in just 25.1 innings and a 5.33 ERA in that span. Although he didn't allow a home run for the first time in that stretch on Monday, he did give up two doubles, both of which would eventually come around to score. Smyly's 4.88 season ERA can largely be pinned on his susceptibility to the extra-base hit, as he has given up 32 homers in just 30 starts this season.

  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

Rangers' Martin Perez: Takes 11th loss against Brewers

Perez (10-11) allowed eight runs on nine hits and three walks with three strikeouts over 6.2 innings and took the loss Monday against the Brewers.

Perez had four consecutive quality starts heading into Monday's outing, but his propensity for blowups like this has been present all year long. He has now allowed at least five runs in eight of his 32 starts, or one in four. Perez has had some occasional success with his pitch-to-contact approach, and the Rangers stellar offense and defense have lifted him to double-digit wins, but he's simply too unreliable to be more than a back-end option.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Indians' Corey Kluber: Leaves start early with groin tightness

Kluber was removed after four innings with groin tightness Monday against the Tigers, having allowed two runs on five hits, a walk, and three strikeouts.

Manager Terry Francona seemed to indicate that the groin was a minor issue and that the early exit was precautionary, saying of Kluber, "He's good, but he has a groin thing that he's fighting." The Indians went on to defeat the Tigers 7-4, and they clinched the AL Central in the process. The combination of the injury and the fact that the Indians will have little to play for in the final games of the regular season would seem to make it unlikely that Kluber would make another regular season start, although the Indians have not yet said anything about whether or not he will miss a start.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Athletics' Sonny Gray: To pitch one or two innings Wednesday

Gray (forearm) will likely be limited to one or two innings in his Wednesday start against the Angels, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

This will be Gray's first start back since being placed on the DL on Aug. 7 with a right forearm strain. As opposed to shutting him down, the A's are looking to get the young righty some live action in the final week. It has been a season to forget for the 26-year-old, who currently holds an ugly 5.74 ERA over 116 innings.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Indians' Corey Kluber: Exits early against Cleveland

Kluber exited Monday's game after just four innings and 60 pitches with right groin tightness.

It's unclear whether Kluber will miss any time with this injury. He's a Cy Young contender and the rock of Cleveland's staff, so expect him to do everything he can to be ready for the playoffs, but his regular-season status is definitely in jeopardy.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Yankees' Luis Severino: Ejected in second inning

Severino was ejected in the second inning Monday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Severino completed just one inning and allowed a run on a hit and two walks. He hit a batter to open the second inning and was ejected by home plate umpire Todd Tichenor. Severino was already at 34 pitches and was on a 50-pitch limit. His season is likely over, but we'll have to wait and see if further discipline comes from the Commissioner's office. If he gets suspended, it puts Severino's chances of grabbing a roster spot next spring in jeopardy.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Yankees' Luis Severino: Facing 50-pitch limit Monday night

Severino will be limited to 50 pitches Monday night, Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York reports.

Severino hasn't started a game since Aug. 14 and hasn't thrown more than 2.1 innings in his two appearances since returning from Triple-A this month. Expect him to throw three innings at most Monday night.

  • Astros' Lance McCullers: To continue rehab at team facility

McCullers (elbow) will continue his rehab at the team's facility in Florida, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

McCullers tossed a bullpen session Thursday without any issue, but with only a week remaining in the regular season, the Astros have pulled the plug on the notion that the right-hander could make another appearance in 2016. McCullers is expected to progress to throwing live batting practice in the near future.
