  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Hit hard in loss to Astros

Paxton was hit hard in Friday's loss to the Astros, allowing six runs on nine hits and on walk across just five innings. He did record one strikeout.

The left-hander allowed just a solo home run through the first four innings, but he imploded in the fifth, when he allowed five men to reach and yielded four total runs, two of which came via wild pitch. Paxton had pitched well in his two outings prior to the All-Star break, but his prospects of bouncing back do not look great heading into his next start Friday at Toronto.

  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Earns sixth vctory of 2016 Friday

Carrasco (6-3) allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three over 6.2 innings to earn the win Friday at the Twins.

The Indians broke open a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the sixth inning to help Carrasco earn his sixth win of the year. He's now held opponents to two or fewer earned runs in each of his last seven starts to lower his ERA to 2.49 on the season. He'll make his next start Wednesday at the Royals.

  • Tigers' Justin Verlander: Strikes out 10 in win Friday

Verlander (9-6) allowed two runs, one of which was earned, on four hits and two walks while striking out 10 over seven innings to earn the win Friday against the Royals.

Verlander was in line for a loss as he left with a 2-1 deficit, but the Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to help him earn his ninth win of the year. He's now held opponents to two or fewer earned runs in each of his last three starts to move his ERA to 3.91, the lowest it's been all year. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Twins.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Slated to play catch Saturday

Rodon will play catch Saturday to test out his sprained wrist, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

The expectation was that Rodon would miss just one start as a result of the injury, but the White Sox could opt to send the lefty for a minor league rehab start if they are not satisfied with Saturday's throwing session. Rodon has cut down on the walks considerably from a year ago and is still averaging a strikeout per inning, but he's been done in by the long ball and some tough luck on balls in play.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Athletics' Rich Hill: Expects to start Sunday

Hill (hand) expects to start Sunday against the Blue Jays, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

While the A's have yet to formally announce a starter for Sunday, Hill declared himself ready after a successful bullpen session Friday, and the team has every incentive to maximize his number of starts before the trade deadline. The 36-year-old showed no lingering effects from the groin injury that cost him over a month in his first two starts of July, allowing three runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out 16 in 12 total innings.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Rays' Alex Cobb: Will throw bullpen session

Cobb (elbow) is set to throw a bullpen session Sunday to work on mechanics, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Cobb's next rehab appearance will be pushed back to Tuesday or Wednesday as the Rays want him to throw a bullpen session to work on some mechanical issues. He's given up four earned runs over 1.2 rehab innings so far but Cobb and Rays manager Kevin Cash are saying the 28-year-old's struggles are not due to a setback with his elbow. Given the righty has not pitched in the majors since 2014, Tampa Bay will likely continue to take the necessary precautions to bring him back to his old form.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Athletics' Rich Hill: Throws full bullpen session Friday

Hill (blister) threw a full bullpen session Friday, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.

According to the report, Hill has a "decent chance" to start Sunday against the Blue Jays after being scratched from his scheduled start Friday, as he did not appear to be affected by the blister during his bullpen session. The lefty missed a good chunk of the first half with a groin issue but has been excellent when on the mound, going 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA in 13 starts. If he had enough innings to qualify, Hill would rank fourth among all starters with a 2.57 FIP.

  • Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX

Yankees' Nathan Eovaldi: Will make start Tuesday

Eovaldi will start Tuesday against Baltimore, the Journal News reports.

Eovaldi is set to make his first start of the second half next week following a brief demotion to the bullpen. Eovaldi had a rough month of June, allowing four or more earned runs in each of his five starts resulting in a 8.65 ERA for the month. He's bounced back over his last two outings however, allowing only one hit and no earned runs over his last 6.1 innings.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Recalled from Triple-A

The Red Sox recalled Rodriguez from Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday.

Rodriguez spent the last couple weeks in the minors after posting a 10.03 ERA over five June starts, but he will re-join Boston's rotation coming out of the All-Star break. He will first take the ball Saturday against the Yankees -- a team he has not faced this season, but had success against in 2015, posting a 3-1 record and 2.22 ERA over four starts.

  • Dylan Bundy SP | NYM

Orioles' Dylan Bundy: Will join rotation out of break

The Orioles announced Friday that Bundy will start Sunday's game against the Rays, Eduardo Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Bundy worked exclusively as a reliever in the first half, but the Orioles -- desperate to solidify a couple spots in their rotation -- will give him at least one chance to start for the big league club, and hand him the ball Sunday for his first major league start. Bundy's 1.53 first-half WHIP raises an eyebrow, but he showed improvement after the calendar turned to June, posting a 1.18 WHIP while also striking out 22 batters in 17 innings over seven appearances.
