  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Rangers' Cole Hamels: Beats Mariners in quality start

Hamels tossed seven inning of one-run ball versus the Mariners on Sunday, striking out five and walking two en route to his sixth win of the season.

The left-hander was on point Sunday, as he allowed just four runners past first base and lowered his ERA to 3.14 with his third consecutive quality start. Hamels boasts a solid 8.8 K/9 rate to supplement that figure, and he is on pace to surpass last season's total of 13 wins for a red hot Rangers club. His next start will come Friday at St. Louis.

  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

Astros' Dallas Keuchel: Becomes league's first nine-game loser Sunday

Keuchel (3-9) was derailed by one bad inning Sunday, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks over five innings while striking out nine in a 5-0 loss to the Rays.

He traded goose eggs with Matt Moore for four innings, but the wheels came off for Keuchel in the fifth. He's now the first pitcher in the majors to nine losses, and while his 34:4 K:BB in 31.1 innings over his last five starts is excellent, he's still stumbled to a 5.75 ERA over that stretch. Keuchel's next start is scheduled for Sunday at home against the Reds.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Allows two runs in losing effort Sunday

Rodon (2-6) allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven over seven innings to take the loss Sunday against the Royals.

Rodon struggled to retire batters in the first two innings, and was fortunate to hold the Royals to just a pair of runs. However, he settled down significantly with four shutout innings to end his afternoon, though the White Sox were unable to give him much offensive support. He'll make his next start Saturday at the Indians.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Will start for the Rays on Thursday

Snell will be recalled from Triple-A Durham to start Thursday against the Mariners, Steve Carney of 620 AM Tampa Bay reports.

Snell will take the rotation spot of Matt Andriese, who will move to the bullpen as a result of a corresponding announcement. Snell was solid in his first MLB start against the Yankees, tossing five innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts. If he can put together another strong outing this time around, freelance Rays writer Roger Mooney suggests there is a possibility the young left-hander could be here to stay. Considering Snell's pedigree, this news makes him a highly attractive waiver wire option for leagues with a Sunday deadline.

  • Neil Ramirez RP | CLE

Twins' Neil Ramirez: Claimed by the Twins

Ramirez was claimed off waivers by the Twins on Sunday.

Ramirez logged just two appearances with Milwaukee, and in his most recent one, surrendered two long balls to the Phillies. This led to the right-hander getting designated for assignment, but it took less than four days for the reliever to find a new home. Even in the shaky Minnesota bullpen, look for Ramirez to serve in middle relief. He'll likely join the club during their upcoming three-game series in Los Angeles.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Better than Saturday's results indicate

Rodriguez, who allowed 10 baserunners in 4.2 innings Saturday against the Twins, showed some improvement despite his lack of command, the Providence Journal reports.

Rodriguez struggled to command his fastball once again and allowed the worst offensive team in baseball to chase him before qualifying for a win. Through three starts, the left-hander has allowed 11 runs in 16.1 innings while walking as many as he's struck out. The results aren't good, but there are signs of improvement as he works his way back from a knee injury. The fastball, once a concern when it was sitting at 92 mph, touched 97 on Saturday and sat at 94. And, after relying heavily on the fastball in his previous start, he was more confident in his secondary offerings. The stuff is improving even if the results weren't. The Red Sox feel the command is more fixable than if his stuff hadn't returned since his injury.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Throws six scoreless in no-decision

Paxton (0-2) scattered six hits over 6.1 scoreless innings, but didn't factor in the decision against the Rangers on Saturday night. He walked to and struck out seven.

The left-hander has been the unfortunately recipient of terrible support. He allowed one run over six innings in his last start - a loss to the Indians - and did even better this time around, however he still remains winless through three starts. Paxton has struck out seven-plus in each of his games, and sports an impressive 24:2 K:BB through 16 innings.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Has rocky outing in Saturday no-decision

Rodriguez did not factor in the decision against the Twins on Saturday, and surrendered six hits, four earned runs and four walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out four.

The 23-year-old southpaw has taken a step back after notching a victory in his first appearance of the season on May 31, as he's surrendered nine earned runs over the 10 innings encompassing his subsequent pair of starts. Saturday, Rodriguez labored through his four-plus innings, throwing 93 pitches over that span. He did show marked improvement in terms of keeping the ball in the yard, surrendering only a three-run homer to Kurt Suzuki after giving up four gopher balls to the Blue Jays in his previous start. Rodriguez turned in a solid rookie season, so his recent struggles may simply be a case of a younger player getting reacclimated. He'll look for a better showing next Thursday versus the Orioles.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Rangers' Yu Darvish: Will miss schedule start Monday with shoulder tightness

Darvish will miss Monday's scheduled start due to shoulder tightness and will return to Dallas for an MRI, the Dallas Morning News reports. "I have heard it's common for players that have had Tommy John surgery to have issues like this," Darvish said. "Right now I don't want to push it and make it worse. It's a precaution, we hope it's nothing serious and that I can be back soon."

It's not clear who will start Monday as Cesar Ramos could be an option or Darvish could land on the DL and Texas could call a pitcher up from the minors. After leaving Wednesday's game due to shoulder tightness, he threw Thursday and Friday without any issues. However, he experienced issues throwing Saturday. We should know more about his injury after an MRI on Sunday.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Rough return from DL Saturday

Gibson (0-4) (shoulder) received a rude welcome upon his return from the DL on Saturday, as he was touched up for seven hits, five earned runs and a walk over 5.2 innings in a 15-4 loss to the Red Sox. He struck out two.

Gibson managed to only throw 56 of 94 pitches for strikes, and induced only six swinging strikes overall. The 28-year-old righty picked up where he left off before his injury, which isn't a good thing. He'd been battered by the Nationals for seven earned runs over three innings back on April 22, and had the misfortune of drawing one of the most dangerous offenses in baseball in the form of the Red Sox in his first start back. Gibson got into early trouble by yielding an RBI double to Xander Bogaerts and a three-run homer to Jackie Bradley, Jr. in the first inning, but left the game in the sixth with the Twins trailing only 5-4. He'll try once more for his first win of the season against the Yankees next Thursday.
