Jake Odorizzi SP | TB
Jake Odorizzi can't escape fourth inning vs. Twins
Rays pitcher Jake Odorizzi was lifted after just 3 1/3 innings Wednesday, giving up four earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five in his team's 6-4, extra-innings loss to the Twins.
Odorizzi took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning, but he walked the first batter of the inning before giving up a game-tying home run. The Twins would then notch two singles a walk before a sacrifice fly brought the third runner of the inning home. Odorizzi was then removed, and his relief allowed one of the inherited runners to score. He didn't factor into the decision after the Rays tied things up later in the game.
The Rays starter owns a 6.52 ERA and 17:10 K:BB ratio in 19 1/3 innings. Odorizzi is lined up to face the White Sox in Chicago Monday.

Drew Smyly gives up two runs in no-decision Wednesday
Tigers pitcher Drew Smyly surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and one walk in six innings while striking out seven Wednesday, but he didn't factor into the decision in his team's 6-4 loss to the White Sox.
Smyly left the game with a 4-2 lead, but a seventh-inning grand slam by the White Sox took away his potential win. It was Smyly's first outing of more than three innings after beginning the season in the bullpen. He owns a 3.60 ERA and 15:4 K:BB ratio in 15 innings. Smyly is set to face the White Sox again Tuesday, this time in Chicago.

The White Sox were only able to stratch out a run in the sixth inning against Verlander before left the game. He owns a 2.18 ERA and 27:12 K:BB ratio in 33 innings. Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson surrendered seven earned runs on 10 hits and two walks in three-plus innings while striking out three in his team's 7-3 loss to the Rays Tuesday.
Gibson (3-1) wasn't getting hit hard, but the sheer volume of runners on base led to an ugly stat line and an early exit. He's scheduled to face the Tigers at home Sunday.
