  • Tarik Skubal SP | DET

Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Strikes out nine in no-decision

Skubal did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Guardians, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out nine.

Skubal certainly appeared to be healthy Thursday after leaving his last start in the fourth inning with side tightness. The lone run against the left-hander came on a Jhonkensy Noel solo homer in the fourth inning. Skubal's now logged eight or more strikeouts in 16 starts this season. His ERA sits at an AL-leading 2.23 with a 0.88 WHIP and 233:30 K:BB through 30 starts (189.1 innings). Skubal's tentatively scheduled for a rematch with Cleveland on the road his next time out.

  • Tanner Bibee SP | CLE

Guardians' Tanner Bibee: Sharp again in win

Bibee (11-11) earned the win Thursday over the Tigers, allowing a run on four hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out eight.

Bibee's turned in three straight quality starts, giving up just four runs over 21.2 innings while striking out 21 in that span. The 26-year-old right-hander's lowered his ERA to 4.34 on the season with a 1.23 WHIP and 157:52 K:BB through 30 starts (176.1 innings). Bibee will look to keep rolling in his next outing, tentatively scheduled as a home rematch with the Tigers next week.

  • Jose Soriano RP | LAA

Angels' Jose Soriano: Lands on IL

The Angels placed Soriano on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right forearm contusion.

Soriano was taken out of his most recent start Wednesday after getting hit on the forearm by a comebacker. X-rays on his forearm came back negative, but the Angels will place him on the injured list anyway, putting an early end to his season. The 26-year-old will finish 2025 with a 4.26 ERA and 1.40 WHIP alongside a 152:78 K:BB across 169 innings. Sam Aldegheri was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move.

  • Trey Yesavage SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Trey Yesavage: Drawing start Sunday versus Royals

Yesavage will start Sunday's game in Kansas City, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Yesavage was impressive in his major-league debut Monday against the Rays, striking out nine over five innings of one-run ball. That has earned him at least one more regular-season start, and it's a favorable matchup versus the Royals. Yesavage threw just 69 pitches in his outing against the Rays, and it's not clear what the Blue Jays have planned for his workload Sunday.

  • Royals' Bailey Falter: Kicking off rehab assignment

Falter (biceps) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.

It will be his first game appearance since he landed on the 15-day injured list with a left biceps contusion in late August. Falter had been demoted to the Royals' bullpen before getting hurt, and if he does make it back before the end of the season, it could be in a low-leverage relief role.

  • Dustin May SP | STL

Red Sox's Dustin May: Throws bullpen session

May (elbow) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

May landed on the 15-day injured list last week with right elbow neuritis. While May appears to be trending in the right direction, Red Sox manager Alex Cora conceded that the righty has "maybe" run out of time to contribute down the stretch. Even if May is deemed healthy enough to return this month, his role is very much in flux, as he's posted a 5.40 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 26:13 K:BB over 28.1 innings with Boston.

  • Royals' Ryan Bergert: Out with strained elbow

The Royals placed Bergert on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right elbow strain.

Bergert felt something in his pitching arm after throwing his between-starts bullpen session Wednesday and has been diagnosed with a strained elbow. There's no word as to whether he will undergo additional testing, but either way, the injury will end Bergert's season. He posted a promising 3.66 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 73:35 K:BB across 76.1 innings in 2025. If healthy, Bergert has a good chance to open the 2026 campaign in the Royals' rotation.

  • Gavin Williams SP | CLE

Guardians' Gavin Williams: Fans nine in 11th win

Williams (11-5) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing three hits and two walks over five scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over the Tigers. He struck out nine.

The right-hander watched Detroit hitters foul off a whopping 28 pitches to force his early exit, but Williams was otherwise dominant to kick off the combined shutout, racking up 30 called or swinging strikes among his 100 pitches. He's given up three runs or fewer in six straight trips to the mound as the Guardians make a late push for a wild-card spot, posting a 1.87 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 34:14 K:BB through 33.2 innings over that stretch and going 4-1. Williams lines up to make his next start at home early next week in a rematch with the Tigers.

  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Stuck with 14th loss

Flaherty (8-14) allowed one run on three hits across five innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Guardians. He walked four and struck out four.

Flaherty mostly pitched well, though he struggled a bit with command and also got zero run support in a 4-0 win for the Guardians. The veteran righty has been up-and-down all season, while his 14 losses are twice as many as he had in 2024 and easily a new career high. Flaherty has at least looked fairly sharp over his last two outings, allowing just one run across 10 innings while striking out 11. He'll look to carry some momentum into his next trip to the mound, which is currently scheduled for Tuesday against this same Cleveland squad.

  • Luis Gil SP | NYY

Yankees' Luis Gil: Flounders in no-decision

Gil didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Twins, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out two.

It was quite a shaky performance for Gil, who permitted a season-high nine hits and tied a season worst in runs allowed. The hard-throwing right-hander stumbled after entering Wednesday on a streak of seven consecutive starts with at least five innings and two runs or fewer given up, and he's issued multiple walks in all but one of his nine outings this year. Gil has a favorable home matchup against the last-place White Sox lined up for next week, though his 1.50 WHIP and 36:29 K:BB are major causes for concern despite his solid 3.33 ERA through 46 innings.
