Rom was recalled from Triple-A Memphis ahead of his start Monday against the Pirates at PNC Park, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Rom will be making his major-league debut Monday. Acquired from the Orioles in the Aug. 1 Jack Flaherty trade, Rom allowed just one earned run while striking out 18 across 11 innings in two starts after joining Memphis. His numbers at Triple-A Norfolk in the Orioles organization this season weren't nearly as good (5.34 ERA), though he's missed bats consistently in the minors. The Cardinals have rotation spots up for grabs down the stretch, so Rom could earn additional starts if he pitches well Monday.

Cecconi is no longer listed as the Diamondbacks' starting pitcher for Monday's game against the Rangers, as Arizona will instead deploy Joe Mantiply as its opening pitcher, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.

Unless Arizona demotes him to Triple-A Reno prior to Monday's contest, Cecconi should still be the main candidate to cover the bulk of the innings for the Diamondbacks, albeit out of the bullpen rather than as a traditional starter. Through his first three big-league outings, Cecconi owns a 3.48 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 10.1 innings, but those numbers are backed by poor peripherals (4.91 FIP, 5.14 SIERA, 6.8 K-BB%).

Double-A Springfield reinstated Roby (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list Monday.

One of the three pitchers the Cardinals acquired in the July 30 deal that sent lefty Jordan Montgomery and right-hander Chris Stratton to the Rangers, Roby looks set to make his St. Louis organizational debut this week. Prior to the trade, the 21-year-old had been on the shelf for the Rangers' Double-A affiliate in Frisco since early June with a right shoulder injury. Roby compiled a 4.68 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 45:10 K:BB in 42.1 innings with Frisco before landing on the IL.

Ashcraft and the Reds won't play the Angels on Monday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Anaheim, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

With Hurricane Hilary bringing heavy rainfall to Southern California, the Reds and Angels will wait until Tuesday to begin their three-game series. Monday's postponement will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday. Expect the Reds to move Ashcraft back one day in the pitching schedule to take the hill Tuesday.

Horton has a 1.38 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 15 strikeouts in 13 innings through three starts for Double-A Tennessee.

Horton, the No. 7 overall pick in last year's draft, has logged four starts at Single-A, 11 starts at High-A and three starts at Double-A thus far in his first full pro season. The quality of his stuff and command is not in question, but it's nonetheless encouraging to see him not skip a beat after an Aug. 1 promotion to Double-A. He is on track to spend a good chunk of the 2024 season in the big-league rotation, health permitting.

Meyer made his first appearance for Single-A Jupiter on Saturday, allowing two hits over three scoreless innings while striking out four without walking a batter.

The 10th overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, and the first prep pitcher selected, Meyer dominated St. Lucie for 39 pitches (25 strikes) while flashing his plus fastball and slider. The 18-year-old made two quick appearances for the Marlins' Florida Complex League affiliate before a promotion to Single-A, but the organization isn't likely to push him too hard in his pro debut. As the team has shown with Eury Perez, however, age is less important than talent when it comes to being pushed up the ladder by the Marlins, so if Meyer continues to deal for Jupiter, an aggressive assignment to High-A to begin 2024 would be on the table.

Soroka got pulled from his start with Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday after 73 pitches and 4.2 innings as Atlanta keeps a close eye on his innings total this season, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

The right-hander was pitching well Saturday, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out nine without walking a batter, but the organization is focused on the bigger picture. Soroka has tossed 77.2 innings at Triple-A in 2023 plus another 29.1 in the majors, a fairly sizable workload for the 26-year-old considering he managed only 38.2 innings total over the prior three years while recovering from three surgeries on his Achilles tendon. He appears to be rounding into form -- he's got a 1.62 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 25:5 K:BB in August for Gwinnett -- but Atlanta may prefer to have him finish out the year healthy and looking ahead to 2024 rather than bring him back up to the big-league roster for the stretch run.

Sheehan struck out five and allowed one hit and one walk over four scoreless frames out of the bullpen Sunday for Triple-A Oklahoma City in its 7-5 loss to Salt Lake.

Since returning to the minors Aug. 4, Sheehan has made a pair of four-inning relief appearances for Oklahoma City, allowing just six baserunners while striking out 11. His usage as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen is likely an organizational decision to keep his innings in check, but Sheehan could still be a candidate to make his return to the Dodgers when the team requires a fifth starter to replace the injured Tony Gonsolin (forearm) this weekend in Boston. If he's called up, Sheehan could end up working behind an opening pitcher just like he has his last two times out with Oklahoma City.

After making a one-inning appearance out of the bullpen in an Aug. 11 game against the Padres, Cecconi returned to the Arizona rotation Wednesday in Colorado. He navigated the unfavorable conditions at Coors Field well enough, striking out four over four innings while limiting the Rockies to two runs on four hits and three walks. Even so, Cecconi owns mostly underwhelming ratios (4.91 FIP, 5.14 SIERA, 6.8 K-BB%) through his limited sample of big-league action to date and wasn't especially impressive over a larger body of work at Triple-A Reno earlier this season, making it tough to recommend him as a streaming option while he faces off Monday against one of the American League's top lineups.

Gore (finger) is listed as the Nationals' probable starter for Wednesday's road game against the Yankees, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Gore's inclusion on Washington's pitching schedule for the three-game set at Yankee Stadium is an indication that the cut nail and blister on his left index finger presented no issues for him during his throwing session over the weekend. He'll be returning to the mound Wednesday on six days' rest after the finger issue cropped up during his most recent outing against the Red Sox on Aug. 16, when he struck out seven and allowed just one hit and two walks over 6.1 scoreless innings prior to departing.
