  • Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Pitches gem despite losing

Montgomery (2-3) took the loss Monday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over six innings against the Giants. He struck out six.

Montgomery had a nice rebound game after allowing seven runs across four innings last week against Arizona. The former Yankee was the victim of non-existent run support, making it a particularly tough-luck loss. The southpaw is tentatively slated to face the Dodgers on the road in his next appearance.

  • Tommy Henry SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Turns in shaky outing

Henry did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks over 4.1 innings in a 5-4 victory over the Royals. He struck out one.

This was Henry's first start of the season after getting called up from Triple-A Reno. The southpaw exited the game after throwing just 41 strikes on 73 pitches, putting some added pressure on the bullpen. The 25-year-old will also need to improve his strikeout-to-walk ratio in order to be a long-term starter in the big leagues. However, the former 74th overall draft pick should get at least a handful of chances to redeem himself going forward.

  • Colin Rea SP | CHC

Brewers' Colin Rea: Handed first loss

Rea (0-1) allowed four runs on five hits and four walks over five innings Monday, striking out one and taking a loss against Detroit.

Nearly all of the damage against Rea came on Nick Maton's three-run shot in the third inning. Rea later coughed up one more run in the fifth during his lackluster outing. After a solid season debut, he's been tagged with eight runs over 10 innings in his last two starts, ballooning his ERA to 5.17. Rea is projected for a home matchup with the Angels this weekend.

Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Recalled for start

Henry was recalled from Triple-A Reno by the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Henry will start Monday against the Royals, sliding into the rotation spot vacated by Madison Bumgarner. The left-hander has posted a 6.33 ERA over four starts at hitter-friendly Triple-A Reno this season but also has a 22:8 K:BB over 21.1 frames. Henry isn't a bad streaming option versus Kansas City and could remain in the rotation for a while if he pitches well.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Michael Soroka: Skipping next Triple-A start

Soroka's next start with Triple-A Gwinnett has been pushed back from Tuesday to Sunday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

It has nothing to do with injury. Rather, it's part of Atlanta's plan to skip some of Soroka's starts this season as a way to limit his workload following so much missed time. Soroka has looked sharp at Gwinnett, putting up a 1.32 ERA and 13:4 K:BB through 13.2 innings over three starts. He looks ready to help the major-league club, when needed, and it's possible he could get a start during the team's current stretch of 17 games without a day off.

  • Sixto Sanchez SP | MIA

Marlins' Sixto Sanchez: Pitching in extended spring

Sanchez (shoulder) will throw one inning in an extended spring training game Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Sanchez continues to ramp things back up slowly as he works his way back from multiple seasons missed due to shoulder problems. It shouldn't be too long before he joins one of the Marlins' minor-league affiliates.

  • Trevor Rogers SP | BAL

Marlins' Trevor Rogers: Remains shut down

Rogers (biceps) remains shut down from throwing, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Rogers was removed from a start last Wednesday and subsequently placed on the injured list with a left biceps strain. It's not clear how long he might be shut down, but it's an injury which figures to sideline him for a handful of weeks.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Marlins' Johnny Cueto: Three innings in extended spring

Cueto (biceps) is slated to throw three innings in an extended spring training game Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

If that does well, Cueto could be ready for an official rehab assignment after that. The veteran right-hander has been limited to just one start this season because of a biceps issue which initially cropped up during spring training.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Cleared for Wednesday's start

Alcantara (biceps) has officially been cleared to start Wednesday in Atlanta after getting through a 25-pitch bullpen session Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Alcantara had to be scratched from a scheduled outing over the weekend with right biceps tendinitis, but he's managed to avoid the injured list and is ready to go. Fantasy managers should have him in their lineups this week.

  • Brewers' Adrian Houser: Getting another rehab start

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Monday that Houser (groin) will make one more rehab start at Triple-A Nashville prior to being activated from the 15-day injured list, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Though Houser stretched out to 69 pitches and was sharp over his 4.2-inning appearance with Nashville on Sunday, the Brewers will have him build up a little more in the minors. Stashing Houser in the minors for at least another week will also give Milwaukee more time to decide whether to bring him back as their new fifth starter or to stick with Colin Rea in that role. Rea has been solid through his first two starts (4.22 ERA, 0.94 WHIP in 10.2 innings) and will take the hill again Monday versus the Tigers, but he doesn't have much of a recent big-league track record to fall back on compared to Houser.
