  • Rockies' German Marquez: Sharp again in victory

Marquez (2-1) earned the win over San Francisco on Tuesday, hurling 7.1 innings and allowing two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out nine.

Marquez entered the game having allowed only two runs over 11.2 innings, and he began the contest with four shutout frames. The Giants touched Marquez for two runs in the fifth inning, but he went otherwise unscathed to emerge with his second win of the campaign. The right-hander lived up to his billing as the staff ace with a strong performance, tossing 74 of 101 pitches for strikes and registering a season-high nine strikeouts. Marquez has registered a shiny 1.89 ERA and 23:5 K:BB through three starts covering 19 innings. He'll head to Seattle to face the Mariners in his next scheduled start Sunday.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Impressive against Cleveland

Mahle allowed one hit and two walks over six scoreless innings in a no-decision against Cleveland on Tuesday. He struck out six.

Mahle was matched up against Shane Bieber and certainly played up to the level of competition, lowering his ERA to 1.80 through two starts this season. He had to watch as the bullpen gave up the lead, but Mahle is pitching well (10:3 K:BB, zero home runs), well enough to where he may force the team to reconsider Wade Miley's role upon Miley's eventual return from a groin injury. As things tentatively line up, Mahle appears slated for a favorable two-step next week (vs. KC, vs. PIT).

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Giants' Kevin Gausman: Suffers loss Tuesday

Gausman (0-1) took the loss against Colorado on Tuesday, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out seven.

Gausman's third start of the season wasn't a complete disaster -- he struck out seven batters and allowed only six baserunners in 5.1 frames -- but timely Colorado hitting was enough to saddle the right-hander with his first loss of the campaign. Gausman did do a number of things to inspire confidence in the contest, including throwing 62 of 83 pitches for strikes and registering his highest pitch count of the season. The 29-year-old will face a tough challenge when he heads to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers on Sunday in his next scheduled start.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Earns second win in quality start

Kendricks (2-1) earned the win against Kansas City on Tuesday, tossing seven innings and allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out three.

Kendricks followed a rough second outing with an effective performance in his third start Tuesday, tossing 62 of 94 pitches for strikes and allowing only one extra-base hit among the seven base knocks against him. The right-hander was quiet on the strikeout front, but he didn't allow any free passes and emerged with his second win -- and second quality start -- of the campaign. Hendricks' next start is scheduled for Sunday on the road against St. Louis.

  • Dustin May SP | MIL

Dodgers' Dustin May: Whiffs eight in win

May (1-0) allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out eight over six innings, earning the win Tuesday versus the Padres.

May was sharp in the contest, with the two runs coming on a third-inning Fernando Tatis double and a Jake Cronenworth solo shot in the fourth. The right-handed May has a 2.63 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 15 strikeouts in 13.2 innings this season. The 22-year-old continues to produce solid outings, and he'll go again Monday in a rematch with the Padres, this time in Dodger Stadium.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Hit hard by Nationals

Matz (0-2) allowed five earned runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out three across three innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Nationals.

Matz allowed two home runs for the second consecutive outing, this time solo shots by Howie Kendrick and Josh Harrison. However, he was also tagged by a lengthy rally in the third inning, when the Nationals collected four hits -- three were singles -- to tally three more runs. Through three starts this season, Matz has a 5.65 ERA, though he has also managed a 13:3 K:BB acros 14.1 frames. He currently lines up for his next start on Monday in a rematch against the Nationals.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Fans eight in win

Corbin (1-0) allowed three earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out eight across 5.2 innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Mets.

Corbin cruised through three innings, walking one and allowing one hit while fanning four. The big blow against him came in the fourth inning, when he surrendered a two-run home run to Michael Conforto, though another run crossed the plate in the fifth frame when he allowed three consecutive singles. Though Corbin may not have had his best stuff -- he generated 11 swinging strikes on 102 total pitches -- he held the Mets largely to only base knocks, earned the win, and racked up plenty of strikeouts. Corbin is projected to make his next start Monday in a rematch against the Mets.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Tabbed for Game 1 on Wednesday

Wheeler will start Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

The 30-year-old hasn't started since making his season debut July 25, as the Marlins' COVID-19 outbreak put both teams on hiatus last week. Wheeler will look to build on his dominating opening performance after allowing one run on five hits and two walks over seven innings.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Starting Game 2 on Wednesday

Nola will start Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

The 27-year-old was originally set to start Tuesday's contest, but the game was postponed due to Tropical Storm Isaias making landfall. Due to the ripple effects from Miami's COVID-19 outbreak, Nola has started only once this season and allowed four runs with seven strikeouts over 5.1 innings.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Placed on COVID-19 list

Alcantara (illness) was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday, Jared Diamond of The Wall Street Journal reports.

Alcantara is among the many Miami players who tested positive for COVID-19 amid a team-wide outbreak. Alcantara previously submitted a dominant outing in his season debut in Philadelphia last Friday, covering 6.2 innings and allowing just two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks while whiffing seven.
