  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Phillies' Drew Smyly: Officially signs with Phillies

Smyly has officially signed with the Phillies and will start Sunday against Pittsburgh.

Smyly had most recently been a member of the Brewers organization, though he elected free agency after marking three starts with their Triple-A affiliate. His last major-league appearances came with the Rangers, and he experienced little success in that stint, posting an 8.42 ERA and 1.91 WHIP with 52 strikeouts across 51.1 innings.

  • Rockies' Antonio Senzatela: Optioned to Triple-A

Senzatela was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday.

Senzatela was hit hard in his start Saturday against the Yankees, allowing six runs on seven hits across just 1.1 innings. That continued a rough stretch for him, as the effort marked his third consecutive start allowing six or more earned runs. Jeff Hoffman was recalled in a series of transactions made by the team, and he figures to slot into Senzatela's rotation spot.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Mike Soroka: Tagged with second loss

Soroka (10-2) took the loss Saturday as the Nats topped Atlanta 5-3, giving up four runs on nine hits and two walks over six innings while striking out four.

The right-hander gave up more than three earned runs for the second time in his last three starts and only the third time this season, leading to his first loss since April 18. Soroka will carry a 2.46 ERA and 86:24 K:BB through 102.1 innings into his next outing Friday in Philadelphia.

  • Zack Greinke SP | KC

Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke: Gets no help from bullpen

Greinke allowed two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out nine over seven innings in a no-decision against the Brewers on Saturday.

Greinke did his part, bequeathing a one-run lead to the bullpen, but a combination of Andrew Chafin and Zack Godley gave it all away in 1.1 innings. The Diamondbacks' ace will make his next start Friday at Miami.

  • Zach Eflin SP | BAL

Phillies' Zach Eflin: Loses third straight

Eflin (7-10) allowed three runs on five hits with no walks and three strikeouts across four innings in a loss to the Pirates on Saturday.

While this was better than his last two starts, Eflin suffered his third straight defeat. In his last five appearances, he's allowed 25 runs in 24 frames (9.38 ERA). What started as a promising season for Eflin has just been sent into a tailspin because of this latest stretch, as he now owns a 4.25 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 91 strikeouts over 110 innings. Eflin will next pitch against the Braves at home Saturday.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Allows six runs to Dodgers

Alcantara did not factor in the decision Saturday, but he allowed six runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out four.

Alcantara, who allowed solo home runs to Joc Pederson and Justin Turner, was taken off the hook when the Marlins erased a six-run deficit in the seventh and eighth innings. The right-hander has now gone five starts without a win. The 23-year-old has a 4.25 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 112.1 innings this season. He takes a 4-9 record into his next start, scheduled for Friday at home versus the Diamondbacks.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Shuts down Phillies

Musgrove (7-8) allowed one unearned run on two hits, two walks and eight strikeouts across six innings while earning a victory against the Phillies on Saturday.

To help his cause, Musgrove hit a two-out double in the third inning which started a three-run rally. On the mound, this was his best start since June 27, when he shut out the Astros for six frames. Musgrove has shown flashes of this type of dominance this season, but he hasn't been able to do it consistently. He owns a 4.08 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 98 strikeouts in 110.1 innings on the year. Musgrove is scheduled to pitch next at home Thursday against the Cardinals.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Posts six scoreless innings

Kershaw tossed six innings, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out 10 but did not factor into the decision against the Marlins on Saturday.

Kershaw left the contest with a 6-0 lead, but the Dodgers' bullpen gave the lead away in the seventh and eighth innings, denying the ace what would have been his ninth win of the season. It was a vintage performance for the southpaw -- with the 10 strikeouts representing a season high -- and he shrank his ERA to 2.84 and WHIP to 1.02 over 111 innings. Kershaw will next lines up to take on the Nationals in Washington next Saturday.

  • Reds' Michael Lorenzen: Nabs sixth save

Lorenzen struck out two and gave up one run on one hit and one walk over two innings to record his sixth save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Cardinals on Saturday.

Raisel Iglesias just returned from the paternity list but was deemed not ready to pitch Saturday, leaving Lorenzen to not only close but act as his own setup man as well. The 27-year-old now sports a 3.55 ERA and 51:14 K:BB through 50.2 innings and has seven holds to go with his saves in 45 appearances.

  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

Reds' Luis Castillo: Quality start in no-decision

Castillo didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Cardinals, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six innings while striking out four.

Despite producing his fourth straight quality start and 13th of the season, Castillo was actually in line for his fourth loss until the Reds offense woke up and put three runs on the board in the seventh inning. The right-hander will take a 2.36 ERA and 138:57 K:BB through 118 innings into his next outing Friday, at home against the Rockies.
