Joe Musgrove SP | SD
Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Falls to 6-8
Musgrove (6-8) took the loss against the Cardinals on Monday, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits over 4.2 innings, striking out seven and walking three as the Pirates fell 7-0.
Musgrove looked like he was on his way to a solid final line, but he gave up a two-run homer to Tyler O'Neill in the fifth inning before walking the next batter and getting the hook. He struggled with his efficiency, as he wound up throwing 104 pitches in his 4.2 frames. Musgrove had been pitching much better lately after struggling for much of May and June, but his numbers overall in 2019 are pedestrian, as he's sporting a 4.31 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP through 104.1 innings. He lines up to take on the Phillies in his next start at home on Sunday.

Miles Mikolas RP | WAS
Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Dominates Pirates
Mikolas (6-9) threw a complete-game shutout against the Pirates on Monday, giving up eight hits, striking out three and walking none in the Cardinals' 7-0 victory.
It's been an erratic season overall for the right-hander, but he was lights-out in this contest, as he demonstrated excellent control in hurling 73 of his 100 pitches for strikes. The stellar performance lowers his ERA from 4.53 to 4.15 through 108.1 innings, to go along with a 1.23 WHIP and a 78:17 K:BB. He'll try to keep it rolling in his next start, which will see him take on the Reds in a Saturday road matchup.

Max Fried SP | NYY
Braves' Max Fried: Dealing with blister
Fried was removed from Monday's 4-2 win over the Brewers after five innings due to a blister on his left index finger, Kelsey Wingert of Fox Sports South reports.
Fried was able to secure the victory after throwing five scoreless frames, but skipper Brian Snitker revealed after the contest that the southpaw's early removal was the result of the minor finger issue rather than a strategic decision. Snitker didn't comment on whether Fried will be able to make his next start, though the lefty's availability should become more clear in the coming days.

Zach Eflin SP | BAL
Phillies' Zach Eflin: Suffers another rough defeat
Eflin (7-9) allowed seven runs on nine hits with one walk and five strikeouts across six innings while taking a loss against the Dodgers on Monday.
The 25-year-old didn't allow a hit through three innings, and then the wheels completely came off in the fourth frame. The Dodgers scored six in the fourth and then another in the fifth, but the Phillies just left Elfin in the game through six until he eclipsed 100 pitches. As a result, his ERA escalated again to 4.16. Eflin has allowed 13 earned runs in his last nine innings. He also has a 1.32 WHIP and 88 strikeouts in 106 innings. Eflin will look to get back on track at the Pirates on Saturday.

Clayton Kershaw SP | LAD
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Wins eighth game
Kershaw (8-2) allowed one run on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts across six innings to earn a victory against the Phillies on Monday.
The 31-year-old yielded a solo homer in the third, and that's it. Kershaw isn't quite the same pitcher he was, but he's putting together a very solid season. This was his eighth win, and he lowered his ERA to 3.00 after this outing. He also has a 1.05 WHIP, .234 batting average against and 98 strikeouts in 105 innings. Kershaw will pitch next against the Marlins at home Saturday.

German Marquez SP | SD
Rockies' German Marquez: Yields 11 runs
Marquez (8-5) allowed 11 runs on 11 hits with no walks and three strikeouts across 2.2 innings while taking a loss against the Giants in the first game of a doubleheader Monday.
The 24-year-old gave up five runs in the first and then posted a 1-2-3 second frame. However, the Giants exploded for six more runs in the third, and Marquez didn't make it out of the inning. The Rockies bullpen has been overworked since the break, and the two teams were playing a doubleheader Monday, so that's probably why manager Bud Black elected to keep Marquez in until he gave up a season-high 11 runs. This start raised his ERA almost 70 points, which is an incredible feat considering we're three and a half months into the season. Marquez now owns a 5.12 ERA, .273 batting average against, 1.28 WHIP and 128 strikeouts in 130 innings this season. He will look to rebound from this outing against a tough Yankees lineup in New York this weekend.

Adrian Houser SP | SF
Brewers' Adrian Houser: Gives up four runs in loss
Houser (2-4) gave up four runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out three through six innings to take the loss against the Braves on Monday.
Houser gave up a three-run home run in the fourth inning but otherwise found his way out of trouble until he quickly gave up three hits to start the seventh inning that ended his outing. This was a step in the right direction for the 26-year-old after giving up five runs in only four innings last time out. Houser has a 2-4 record with a 4.25 ERA, a 9.3 K/9 and a 3.7 BB/9 through 20 appearances this season. Houser is expected to make his next start Saturday against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

Max Fried SP | NYY
Braves' Max Fried: Strikes out five in win
Fried (10-4) gave up three hits and two walks while striking out five through five scoreless innings to take the win over the Brewers on Monday.
In the nine starts coming into this contest, the left-hander had a 3-2 record with a 5.77 ERA but delivered an excellent performance before having to exit the game with a blister on his index finger. Fried has a 4.08 ERA, an 8.9 K/9 and a 2.7 BB/9 through 19 starts this season. It is not clear at this point if Fried will be able to make his next turn in the rotation Saturday against the Nationals.

Triple-A Oklahoma City reinstated Gonsolin (hamstring) from the 7-day injured list Monday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Gonsolin is scheduled to start for the affiliate Monday after being shut down for the past two weeks with a strained left hamstring. Over 29.2 innings at Triple-A this season, Gonsolin has posted a 3.64 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 35:16 K:BB.

Cole Hamels SP | SD
Cubs' Cole Hamels: Throws again Monday
Hamels (oblique) threw from 120 feet Monday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Hamels resumed his throwing program Friday and has ramped things up in recent days. He felt good during the session and could toss a bullpen as soon as Wednesday, per Gonzales, though it remains unclear when he's expected to head out on a rehab assignment.
