  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Returns to winning ways

Peralta (3-2) allowed one run on four hits and struck out nine over six innings Thursday in a win over the Marlins.

Peralta has struggled to get through the first inning of his starts so far this season, but he managed to breeze through the first Thursday and would go on to deliver a quality start. His only run allowed came in the sixth inning on a single to center field. The 23-year-old right-hander found success by pounding the strike zone (62 of 91 pitches were strikes) and by inducing seven groundouts. Peralta now owns a 5.11 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with a 52:13 K:BB over 44 innings this season, though he figures to be used as a reliever going forward.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Cubs' Jose Quintana: Falls to 4-5

Quintana (4-5) took the loss against the Rockies on Thursday, giving up three earned runs on six hits over 7.1 innings, striking out four and walking none in a 3-1 defeat for the Cubs.

Quintana pitched well, working into the eighth inning before exiting after 97 pitches, but he was ultimately outdueled by Colorado rookie Peter Lambert and dealt his fifth defeat of the season. For the season, the 30-year-old has a 3.77 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP and a 66:20 K:BB over 74 innings. He's scheduled to take on the Rockies again in his next start, this time in the daunting confines of Coors Field on Tuesday.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Rockies' Tyler Anderson: Yet to undergo surgery

Anderson has yet to undergo surgery to repair a left knee chondral defect, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.

Anderson was transferred to the 60-day injured list near the end of May after it was determined that he would require knee surgery, though the southpaw apparently still hasn't undergone the procedure. He's not a lock to return this season, a concern that increases with each day Anderson delays surgery.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Confirmed as starter

Peralta has been confirmed as the starting pitcher for Thursday's game against the Marlins.

Peralta pitched out of the bullpen in four of his last five appearances, but he will get a chance to start Thursday with fellow starters Jhoulys Chacin (back) and Gio Gonzalez (arm) on the injured list. Peralta owned an unsightly 8.31 ERA after his May 2 start, but he has been better since, posting a 2.20 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and 18:3 K:BB in 16.1 innings over the previously mentioned five-game stretch.

  • Brewers' Adrian Houser: Getting job done in relief

Houser allowed just one unearned run over three innings of relief in Wednesday's loss to the Marlins. He gave up one hit and posted a 6:1 K:BB.

Houser allowed five earned runs over four innings in a spot start April 22, but he has been outstanding since, giving up only two earned runs over 18.1 innings (0.98 ERA) while posting a 1.09 WHIP and 21:8 K:BB. He is working mainly in low-stress situations, at least in part due to his ability to throw multiple innings, which he has done eight times in 11 appearances this season.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Strikes out seven in no-decision

Maeda allowed one run on two hits with seven strikeouts and one walk across five innings during a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

The right-hander was pretty exceptional, as he permitted only three hitters to reach base. He also only needed 70 pitches to get through five frames, but manager Dave Roberts still elected to go to his bullpen in the sixth. This broke Maeda's string of four consecutive starts where he earned a victory. Still, he's 7-2 with a 3.48 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 2.09 batting average against and 69 strikeouts in 67.1 innings. Maeda will make his next start Tuesday at the Angels.

  • Cal Quantrill RP | TEX

Padres' Cal Quantrill: Strikes out seven

Quantrill allowed two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and no walks across five innings during a no-decision against the Phillies on Wednesday.

The Padres pulled Quantrill after 80 pitches, which manager Andy Greene may have regretted afterwards. The Padres bullpen yielded five runs in the seventh and eighth to blow a three-run lead. Quantrill has been shuffling back and forth between Triple-A and the big leagues for spot starts with the Padres this year. With the way he pitched Wednesday, he may have earned additional opportunities in the immediate future.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Braves' Kevin Gausman: Lit up by Pirates

Gausman (2-5) was charged with seven runs on 12 hits over five innings during Wednesday's 7-4 loss at Pittsburgh. He struck out three and walked none.

Gausman had a disastrous second inning as he gave up five runs on seven hits while even having the benefit of a runner being thrown out at home to end the frame. The 28-year-old has allowed a whopping 15 runs in his last two starts but will have the chance for a rebound effort against the Pirates on Monday.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Delivers eight strong innings

Musgrove (4-6) allowed three runs on five hits and a walk across eight innings to earn the win against the Braves on Wednesday. He struck out six.

Musgrove was given the chance for a complete game, but he was pulled after giving up back-to-back home runs to start the ninth inning. The 26-year-old has a 4.44 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 57:20 K:BB over 73 innings and lines up to face the Braves again on Monday.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Whiffs five in no-decision

Darvish allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out five across 5.1 innings Wednesday against the Rockies. He did not factor into the decision.

Darvish surrendered only one hit and two walks through five shutout innings. However, he struggled in the sixth frame, allowing three of the first four batters he faced to reach base before getting pulled. Two of his charged runs came after his departure, as the Cubs bullpen failed to pick him up. Though Darvish threw 65 of his 95 pitches for strikes, he surrendered at least three walks in an outing for the 10th time in 14 starts this season. That said, he's managed to lower his ERA from 5.79 to 4.88 in the last month -- a span of seven starts. He'll look to maintain his improvement in his next scheduled start, a rematch against the Rockies at Coors Field on Monday.
