  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Quality start in no-decision

Freeland allowed two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out four over 6.2 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers. He did not factor into the decision.

Freeland left his last start with a calf cramp, but he showed no lingering effects of the issue in this one. The lefty did match a season high with the four free passes, but he was able to work around that to fire a ninth consecutive quality start -- a span in which he's 6-0 with a 2.35 ERA and 9.1 K/9. He'll look to keep rolling, taking a 2.95 ERA into Monday's start against the Phillies.

  • Chase Anderson RP | TEX

Brewers' Chase Anderson: Takes loss in short start

Anderson (9-8) gave up three runs on six hits in a loss to the Reds on Tuesday, recording five strikeouts and two walks in 3.2 innings.

Anderson gave up four extra-base hits in the short outing, including a two-run homer to Jose Peraza in the first inning. This was Anderson's shortest outing since May 26 and it marks the fourth time in his last eight starts that he hasn't made it through five innings. The 30-year-old still has a 3.93 ERA to go along with a 1.19 WHIP and 128:57 K:BB in 158 innings this season. His next scheduled start will be a matchup against the Cardinals in St. Louis on Monday.

  • Reds' Michael Lorenzen: Throws four strong innings

Lorenzen allowed one unearned run on one hit in a no-decision against the Brewers on Tuesday, striking out three and walking one in four innings.

Making his first start of the year, Lorenzen threw 52 pitches (36 strikes) and pitched quite well against one of the better hitting lineups in the league. In 43 appearances, the right-hander has a 3.03 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 52:30 K:BB in 71.1 innings this season. It's uncertain at this point if Lorenzen will make another start or head back to the bullpen.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Issues too many free passes

Alcantara (2-1) gave up three runs on six hits and six walks while striking out three in four innings Tuesday against the Nationals. He took the loss.

He was actually quite fortunate to only give up the three runs in four frames, given that he allowed 12 baserunners. Alcantara has been oddly effective in a small sample size in the big-league rotation, boasting a 2.35 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 23 innings (four starts). However, his 17:16 K:BB over that span signals that his run prevention is wholly unsustainable. He lines up for two starts next week, Monday in Washington and Sunday on the road against the Mets.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Fans season-high 11

Strasburg (9-7) gave up two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out 11 in six innings Tuesday in Miami. He picked up the win.

The 11 strikeouts matched Strasburg's season high from back on May 2 against the Pirates. He is 3-0 with a 3.63 ERA in six starts since returning from the disabled list Aug. 22. Through 20 starts, Strasburg has four outings with double-digit strikeouts. He lines up for two starts next week, Monday at home against the Marlins and Sunday in Colorado.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Falls short of quality start

Nola allowed two runs on six hits over 5.2 innings during Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Mets. He struck out nine and did not factor in the decision.

Nola exited with runners on first and third during the fifth inning, but Pat Neshek was able to escape without allowing a run. The 25-year-old has a somewhat troubling trend as he has allowed eight home runs in four September starts, after allowing only eight home runs over his first 27 starts of the season. Nola currently lines up to start Sunday at Atlanta.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Battles through five scoreless innings

Matz gave up two hits and five walks over five scoreless innings during Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Phillies. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision.

Matz was hardly at his best with only 54 strikes on 91 pitches, but he battled to keep the Phillies off the board while helping himself with a solo home run during the third inning. The 27-year-old has a 4.03 ERA and 1.24 WHIP and lines up to start at Washington on Sunday.

  • Pirates' Jameson Taillon: Fans 11 in no-decision

Taillon struck out 11 and gave up four hits over seven shutout innings during Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Royals. He walked one batter and did not factor in the decision.

Taillon allowed doubles to Alex Gordon and Alcides Escobar, but generated 20 swinging strikes from the Royals to reach a season-high 11 strikeouts. The 26-year-old has allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last six starts (38 innings), and currently lines up to face the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Monday.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Rocked for six runs

Gray (11-8) gave up six runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out one over two innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Monday.

This was downright ugly. Joc Pederson led off the home half of the first inning with a home run, and Gray went on to allow five consecutive hits (including another homer) to begin the third before getting the hook. After some initial success upon his return from the minors, Gray has regressed in a major way, posting a 7.54 ERA and 1.72 WHIP while allowing nine long balls in his last five starts (22.2 innings). He gets the Diamondbacks in Arizona and the Nationals at home to close out the regular season.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Records three-inning save versus Reds

Woodruff allowed three hits and one walk over three scoreless innings to earn the save Monday against the Reds. He struck out two.

Woodruff entered with an eight-run lead and proceeded to cruise through the next three frames to earn the first save of his career. The right-hander has pitched in a versatile bullpen role this season and currently holds a 3.99 ERA, so his fantasy value is quite limited despite this effort.
