Zach Eflin SP | BAL
Phillies' Zach Eflin: Serves as 26th man Thursday
Eflin was added to Philadelphia's roster as the 26th man ahead of his start in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mets.
As expected, Eflin will rejoin the big-league team after being optioned down to Triple-A Lehigh Valley last weekend. Across 16 starts this year, he's logged a 3.57 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with an 8.5 K/9.

Ranger Suarez SP | BOS
Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Called up from minors
Suarez was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
As expected, Suarez was officially called up in order to start Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mets. During his lone appearance with the big-league club this year, Suarez allowed four earned runs on six hits (two home runs) and one walk while striking out three across five innings in Cincinnati on July 26.

Jacob Nix SP | SD
Padres' Jacob Nix: Gets another start
Nix will pick up another start Thursday against the Diamondbacks.
While there wasn't a direct path to the rotation open for Nix after he was recalled from Triple-A El Paso last week, there was never much doubt he would receive a second start after dazzling in his MLB debut Aug. 10. Nix shut out the playoff-contending Phillies for six innings, conceding only four hits and two walks to pick up the win. The 22-year-old should get a chance to showcase his stuff over the final month and a half of the season as he looks to stake his claim to a full-time role with the big club in 2019.

Chase Anderson RP | TEX
Brewers' Chase Anderson: Start pushed back to Monday
Anderson will receive a couple days of rest prior to his upcoming start against Cincinnati on Monday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Manager Craig Counsell elected to bump Jhoulys Chacin up a day in order to give Anderson added rest following his rough outing against the Braves on Sunday. It's clear that Anderson is struggling right now, as he's failed to get out of the fifth inning in four of his past seven outings. This will let Anderson avoid a red-hot Cardinals club and line him up for a pair of home starts -- versus the Reds and Pirates -- next week.

Zach Eflin SP | BAL
Phillies' Zach Eflin: Starting second game Thursday
Eflin will be recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to start the second game of Thursday's doubleheader with the Mets.
Eflin was optioned to Triple-A following his Aug. 10 start against the Padres, but the transaction was strictly procedural rather than one made out of dissatisfaction with the right-hander's performance. By sending Eflin to the minors temporarily, the Phillies were able to open up another spot on the active roster for a player who was more likely to contribute between his starts. The Phillies are able to add the 24-year-old back to the big-league roster before the minimum 10 days since he'll be designated as the 26th man for the twin bill.

Steven Matz RP | TB
Mets' Steven Matz: Will start second game of twin bill
Matz (forearm) will be activated from the 10-day disabled list to start the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports.
The Mets indicated earlier in the week that Matz would be added back to the rotation Thursday, but it wasn't immediately clear if he would start the first or second game of the twin bill. It's now been confirmed that Corey Oswalt will oppose Ranger Suarez in the afternoon contest, while Matz goes head-to-head against Zach Eflin in the nightcap.

Corbin Burnes SP | ARI
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Struggling this month
Burnes allowed an earned run while pitching 1.1 innings out of the bullpen in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs.
Burnes did not allow a run in 8.2 innings over six appearances in July, but he has struggled since the change of the month, giving up seven earned runs over 6.2 innings -- good for an unsightly 9.45 ERA -- through seven appearances in August. Burnes has been working in middle relief and will continue to do so for the Brewers.

Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR
Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Six shutout in no-decision
Ryu fired six scoreless innings with three hits allowed and six strikeouts in Wednesday's extra-innings win over the Giants. He did not factor into the decision.
Making his first start since the beginning of May while sidelined with a groin injury, Ryu was terrific. He didn't appear to be limited in any way, as his 89 pitches (60 strikes) were in line with where he was at when healthy, and he allowed just two runners to get as far as second base all game. The 31-year-old had been pitching well before getting hurt, and Wednesday's outing gives him a 1.77 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 42:10 K:BB across 35.2 innings. He'll face the Cardinals on Tuesday in his next start.

Ranger Suarez SP | BOS
Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Set to start Game 1
Suarez will be recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to start Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mets, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic Philadelphia reports.
Zach Eflin will get the ball for the other game. Suarez allowed four runs across five innings while striking out three against the Reds in his only MLB appearance earlier in the season. He owns a 3.19 ERA across six starts (31 innings) with the IronPigs, but that comes with an unremarkable 1.45 WHIP and 22:12 K:BB. Suarez will likely head back to the minors following Thursday's spot start, as the Phillies can revert back to a five-man rotation after Thursday's twin bill.

Zack Wheeler SP | PHI
Mets' Zack Wheeler: Picks up sixth straight win
Wheeler (8-6) picked up the win Wednesday against the Orioles, allowing one run on five hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out three.
The Mets exploded for 14 runs through the first six innings, allowing Wheeler to cruise to his sixth straight victory. Over that six-start stretch, the 28-year-old owns a shiny 2.04 ERA and 37:8 K:BB across 39.2 innings. Next up is a home start against the Giants.
