Velasquez (8-8) tossed 6.1 scoreless innings Friday, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out seven as he notched the victory over Miami.
Velasquez was efficient in the series opener, as he exited the game in the seventh inning having thrown 85 pitches (66 strikes). He's looked sharp over his previous four outings as well, surrendering just two runs while striking out 21 through 24.1 frames. Alex Wood RP | ATH
Dodgers' Alex Wood: Leaves game with trainer
Wood walked off the mound with an apparent injury prior to beginning the seventh inning Friday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out four over six innings before leaving the contest against the Astros.
Wood had thrown 105 pitches, and as he warmed up for the seventh, manager Dave Roberts and the team trainer walked out to check on Wood. He would proceed to exit the game alongside the trainer. The location and extent of the 27-year-old lefty's issue remains unknown, although more information should be provided after further evaluation.

Michael Wacha SP | KC
Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Remains in St. Louis during team's road trip
Wacha (oblique) will continue his throwing program in St. Louis during the team's nine-game road trip, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
The right-hander resumed throwing last Saturday, and although there haven't been any reported setbacks, he hasn't made enough progress for the team to even begin seriously contemplating a minor-league rehab assignment. Wacha has been sidelined since June 20, and although his strain was originally labeled as "moderate", it now appears the injury has the potential to sideline him well into August.

Jose Quintana SP | COL
Cubs' Jose Quintana: Pitches well in win over Padres
Quintana (10-7) pitched six innings of one-run ball to grab the win Friday against the Padres. He allowed four hits and struck out six.
This was the fourth time in his last five starts that Quintana went at least six innings and allowed two runs or fewer. While his season ERA still sits at a disappointing 4.12, the lefty's recent results indicate that a strong finish to the year could be in order. Quintana will look to keep it rolling in his next outing, which is scheduled for Wednesday against a subpar Kansas City lineup.

Anthony DeSclafani RP | ARI
Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: Inclement weather postpones start
DeSclafani will not take the mound Friday due to inclement weather, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.
The Nationals announced that Friday's game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Saturday, so DeSclafani is slated to take the mound during the first half of the twin bill, per Collier. Across 10 starts this year, he's logged a 5.47 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with a 8.2 K/9.

Joey Lucchesi RP | LAA
Padres' Joey Lucchesi: Start pushed back to Sunday
Lucchesi is dealing with a stomach bug, so his outing will be bumped back to Sunday against the Cubs, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Lucchesi won't be forced miss his turn in the rotation as a result of a moderate stomach illness, though he will get an extra day of rest. He was initially slated to throw Saturday, but Walker Lockett will get the nod in Lucchesi's place. The southpaw owns a 3.74 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with a 78:28 K:BB over 77 frames heading into Sunday's series finale at Wrigley Field.

Hunter Greene SP | CIN
Reds' Hunter Greene: Out for season with elbow injury
Greene has been shut down for the season with a sprained UCL in his right elbow.
For the moment, Greene appears to have avoided an injury serious enough for him to require Tommy John surgery, though the injury nevertheless seems to be a significant one. He will begin rehab right away and will be evaluated throughout the offseason.

Steven Matz RP | TB
Mets' Steven Matz: Hits disabled list
Matz was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a flexor-pronator strain Friday.
Matz has avoided structural damage to his forearm, but in a lost season the Mets have no reason to push him. The DL assignment is retroactive to Aug. 1, so he could return Aug. 11 and potentially only miss one start. Corey Oswalt was called up to take his place in the rotation.

Tyler Mahle SP | ATL
Reds' Tyler Mahle: Optioned to Triple-A
Mahle was sent down to Triple-A Louisville on Friday.
The Reds will trim their six-man rotation down to five and Mahle will deservedly lose out. Over his last four starts, he's lasted a total of 10.2 innings, giving up 22 runs (20 earned). Prior to that point, he had a 3.66 ERA in 98.1 innings, so there remains hope that he can sort things out at the minor-league level and be back in Cincinnati before the end of the year.
