Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR
Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Solid first rehab outing
Ryu (groin) threw 47 pitches over four scoreless innings during his rehab start with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports.
Ryu looked solid, recording four strikeouts while allowing only two hits during his first game since tearing his left groin in early May. The 31-year-old will likely require a few more rehab starts to rebuild his stamina and could be looking at a return in late August or early September.

Tyler Mahle SP | ATL
Reds' Tyler Mahle: Could lose rotation spot
Mahle could lose his rotation spot soon, MLB.com's Kyle Melnick speculates. The Reds are using a six-man rotation right now and want to discontinue that, and Mahle is going through a really awful stretch, allowing a hard-to-fathom 20 earned runs over his last 10.2 innings.
Because the Reds didn't trade Matt Harvey by Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline, there remains six starters. But with Mahle struggling so much, he's changed where he's pitching on the mound, and that experiment didn't work. He might be better served trying to fix whatever's wrong down in Triple-A.

Zack Greinke SP | KC
Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke: Six strong innings
Greinke (12-6) allowed two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out five across six innings but took the loss Thursday against the Giants.
Greinke was taken deep by Evan Longoria in the first inning, but rebounded by not allowing another earned run until the fifth inning. He relied on the good control he's displayed all season -- he has surrendered 1.6 BB/9 -- as well as eight groundball outs to record his fourth consecutive quality start. Despite taking the loss, there's little to be concerned about as Greinke remains among the National League leaders in strikeouts (148), WHIP (1.04) and ERA (2.96).

Clayton Kershaw SP | LAD
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Six strong innings
Kershaw (5-5) allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven across six innings to earn the win Thursday against the Brewers.
Kershaw received plenty of run support -- the Dodgers had scored 10 runs by the end of the sixth inning -- but didn't need it to earn his fifth win. He generated an impressive 15 swinging strikes with a total of 67 of his 98 pitches finding the strike zone. This start marked Kershaw's sixth consecutive quality start, during which he has gone 4-1 with nine earned runs and 35 strikeouts across 38.1 innings. While he has struck out a relatively disappointing 9.5 batters per nine innings across 95.1 innings this season, his ERA (2.55) and WHIP (1.07) are approaching the lofty marks expected of him.

Pablo Lopez SP | MIN
Marlins' Pablo Lopez: Quality start, no decision
Lopez gave up one run on five hits and zero walks while striking out five over six innings Thursday in Philadelphia. He did not factor in the decision.
He only needed 87 pitches (60 strikes), working efficiently en route to his third quality start in six career outings in the big leagues. Lopez's 4.67 ERA isn't impressive, but in the three starts when he's been on, he's been quite good. Unfortunately the Brewers and Nationals (twice) have tagged him to the tune of 14 runs in 16.2 innings across his three bad starts in the majors. His next start will come Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Tyler Mahle SP | ATL
Reds' Tyler Mahle: Chased after 1.2 innings
Mahle (7-9) lasted just 1.2 innings Thursday, allowing six runs on four hits and three walks in the 10-4 loss to Washington. He struck out just one batter and took the loss.
Mahle threw a perfect first inning before getting torched for all six earned runs in the second. The 23-year-old rookie has been dreadful as of late, allowing 22 runs (20 earned) across just 10.2 innings in his last four starts. His rough stretch has raised his season ERA from 3.66 to an unsightly 4.95. He'll look to turn things around with a better matchup against the Mets on Tuesday.

Adam Wainwright SP | STL
Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Weekend bullpen on tap
Wainwright (elbow) is scheduled to throw one more bullpen session this coming weekend before embarking on a minor-league rehab assignment, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
Wainwright is scheduled to join the Cardinals briefly following his next bullpen session in order to be evaluated before beginning a minor-league rehab assignment. The veteran right-hander could jump back into action in September when rosters expand if all continues without setbacks in his recovery.

Jacob Nix SP | SD
Padres' Jacob Nix: Headed to Triple-A
Nix was promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday, Bill Center of MLB.com reports.
He takes the rotation spot of Colin Rea, who landed on the disabled list. Nix, 22, is a legitimate prospect and had logged 80.1 innings at Double-A between 2017 and 2018. He had a 2.05 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 41:9 K:BB in 52.2 innings (nine starts) this season, but his 3.97 xFIP is probably a better barometer for how he was pitching.

Colin Rea SP | CHC
Padres' Colin Rea: Lands on Triple-A DL
Rea was placed on the disabled list with Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday with an undisclosed injury, Bill Center of MLB.com reports.
He had a 6.19 ERA in 36.1 innings at Triple-A, working primarily as a starter. Jacob Nix was promoted from Double-A to take Rea's spot in the Albuquerque rotation.

Zach Davies SP | WAS
Brewers' Zach Davies: To make two more rehab starts
Davies (shoulder) will need at least two more outings in the minor leagues prior to returning from the disabled list, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Davies has been on the shelf since June 1 with right rotator cuff inflammation. The 25-year-old right-hander made his second start at Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday, and despite getting knocked around for five runs over 2.2 innings, he didn't suffer any further setbacks. He'll need to make it through two more rehab performances before the Brewers will consider activating him from the disabled list.
