Noah Syndergaard SP | CLE
Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Takes second loss
Syndergaard (6-2) surrendered three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four across seven innings as he was saddled with the loss Wednesday against the Nationals.
Syndergaard turned in a quality outing, allowing one run in the first and two more in the third on a home run, but he would exit the ballgame with a 3-1 deficit. This was his first game back from yet another stint on the disabled list, as he'd been on the shelf since July 20 after contracting hand, foot and mouth disease while at a youth baseball camp. Through 14 starts this season, Syndergaard owns a 2.98 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with an 87:16 K:BB over 81.2 innings.

Tommy Milone SP | SEA
Nationals' Tommy Milone: Fans seven in first victory
Milone (1-0) surrendered one run on three hits while striking out nine across seven innings as he secured the win Monday over the Mets.
In Milone's second start of the 2018 campaign, he gave up just a solo homer in the fifth inning prior to exiting after 97 pitches (69 strikes). He's allowed four runs through 12 innings with 15 punchouts since being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. Milone's spot in the starting rotation will likely depend upon the status of Stephen Strasburg (neck) and Erick Fedde (shoulder), who remain on the 10-day disabled list.

Ross Stripling SP | KC
Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Eyeing return vs. Rockies
Stripling (toe) expects to come off the disabled list to start either Aug. 9 or 10 against Colorado, Pedro Moura of The Athletic Los Angeles reports.
Stripling was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a toe injury Monday, but he shouldn't remain on the shelf for long. If all goes well, Stripling is optimistic that he'll return sometime during the Dodgers' series against the Rockies from Aug. 9-12.

Johnny Cueto SP | LAA
Giants' Johnny Cueto: To undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday
Cueto (elbow) will require Tommy John surgery, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Cueto was lifted from his latest start after experiencing pain in his throwing elbow, and after further evaluation, surgery was deemed necessary. This will effectively end his 2018 campaign, and he'll likely miss most if not all of the 2019 season rehabbing. The 32-year-old made nine starts for the Giants this year, posting a 3.23 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with a 38:13 K:BB over 53 innings.

Yu Darvish SP | SD
Cubs' Yu Darvish: To throw two innings Saturday
Darvish (shoulder) said he felt good the day after completing his latest throwing session, and he's slated to throw two simulated innings Saturday at Wrigley Field, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
Darvish threw a 35-pitch bullpen Tuesday without issue, so he'll toss two more innings this weekend. If all goes well, the 31-year-old expects to toe the rubber for a simulated game or a minor-league start in the near future.

Braves' Kevin Gausman: Expected to start Friday

Kolby Allard RP | CLE
Braves' Kolby Allard: Returns to Gwinnett
Allard was optioned back to Triple-A Gwinnett following Tuesday's start.
As expected following the acquisition of Kevin Gausman on Tuesday, Allard will return to the minor-league level. During his major-league debut against the Marlins on Tuesday, Allard allowed four earned runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out one across five innings. In a corresponding move, Wes Parsons was recalled from the minors.

Steven Matz RP | TB
Mets' Steven Matz: Dealing with forearm tightness
Manager Mickey Callaway said Matz experienced some forearm tightness after the pitcher claimed he had "dead arm" following Tuesday's start, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Matz will be further evaluated and is set to undergo an MRI within the next 24 hours after only recording two outs on 32 pitches during Tuesday's outing against the Nationals. The Mets have not ruled him out for Sunday's scheduled start versus Atlanta, but it isn't looking good at the moment.
