Yu Darvish SP | SD
Cubs' Yu Darvish: Experiences pain during bullpen session
Darvish (triceps) experienced pain during Thursday's bullpen session and will be reevaluated once the team returns to Chicago next week, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Darvish had no issues since throwing five innings during a rehab start Monday and was potentially going to start Saturday, but the re-emergence of pain Thursday complicates his return timeline. Mike Montgomery should remain in the Cubs' starting rotation for the near future with Darvish suffering the setback.

Walker Buehler SP | SD
Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Activated from disabled list Thursday
The Dodgers activated Buehler (ribs) off the 10-day disabled list Thursday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.
Buehler was originally slated to throw a bullpen session Thursday but the Dodgers bumped him up for a minor-league rehab start at Triple-A Oklahoma City, and now have decided to shift course once again. The team apparently plans to utilize Buehler out of the bullpen Thursday in lieu of the rehab assignment, and he will take the next full inning-plus once Clayton Kershaw exits the game, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Max Fried SP | NYY
Braves' Max Fried: Could join Braves for Saturday
Fried could join the Braves to start Saturday's game against the Cardinals, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Brandon McCarthy (knee) landed on the disabled list Thursday, opening up a spot in Atlanta's rotation Saturday. Fried last pitch for the Stripers on Sunday, which would allow him to join the Braves with no issue. The 24-year-old has one start for the Braves this season, in which he allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits across five innings, striking out six and issuing four walks.

Kyle Freeland SP | COL
Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Takes no-decision despite seven scoreless
Freeland was stuck with a no-decision Wednesday against the Giants despite tossing seven shutout innings with four strikeouts and just four hits and one walk allowed.
Freeland is on a roll with quality starts in his last three outings. Wednesday's start marked his second scoreless appearance of the season, this one the longest by two outs over his May 12 win over the Brewers. His changeup baffled Giants batters, as he induced nine swinging strikes with just 36 changeups -- a 25 percent whiff rate. That pitch probably made his 92-mph fastball look like 97. He'll take a 3.29 ERA into Monday's start, a rematch with the Giants.

Alex Wood RP | ATH
Dodgers' Alex Wood: Snags fourth win with quality start
Wood (4-5) allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out six through seven innings in a win Wednesday over the Cubs.
Things looked rough after Willson Contreras blasted a two-run home run off Wood in the first inning, but he calmed down and was utterly nasty over the next six frames. His knuckle-curve was the money pitch, as it induced six whiffs on just 31 offerings. Wood now has quality starts in consecutive outings after failing to record one in his previous four starts. He'll look to keep the hot streak rolling Monday against the Pirates.

Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA
Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Hammered in eighth loss
Hendricks (5-8) allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks with one strikeout and lasted just 2.2 innings in a loss Wednesday to the Dodgers.
Hendricks served up a pair of home runs in the process and has now given up 16 long balls in as many starts. Hendricks hasn't allowed more than 17 home runs in his career, and this newfound home run problem is the major reason why he owns a 4.21 ERA, which will be a career worst if it doesn't improve. Hendricks will try to get back on track Tuesday against the Tigers.

Michael Lorenzen RP | TOR
Reds' Michael Lorenzen: Used as pinch hitter Wednesday
Lorenzen wasn't available to pitch Wednesday after pitching the previous two games against the Braves, but he was used as a pinch hitter and was available to play in the field, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports.
This isn't the first time Lorenzen has been used as a pinch hitter. In fact, last season he even hit a pinch-hit homer. Lorenzen was a good hitter in college and was considered a possible two-way player when drafted. That won't happen -- interim manager Jim Riggleman said that any play in the field will be on an emergency basis only. Meanwhile, Lorenzen has produced good ratios since coming off the DL, with a 1.77 ERA and 1.28 WHIP, albeit with eight walks in 20.1 innings. As a measure of how much he is trusted with the Reds, he already has three holds and a save.

Jack Flaherty SP | DET
Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Serves up two homers in third loss
Flaherty (3-3) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts through four innings in a loss Wednesday against Cleveland.
Flaherty had allowed just two runs over his past three starts, but both were on home runs. That was his issue Wednesday, as Cleveland tagged him for two home runs among four extra-base hits, marking the first time Flaherty has allowed multiple home runs in a start all season long. This was also the first time Flaherty has failed to complete the fifth inning. He still owns a brilliant 2.92 ERA through 11 starts, and given just how strong he has looked to open the season, he should be expected to right the ship quickly. He'll get his first chance at it Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.

Zach Eflin SP | BAL
Phillies' Zach Eflin: Shuts down Yankees in Wednesday's win
Eflin (6-2) picked up the win in Wednesday's 3-0 victory over the Yankees, scattering four hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings while striking out six.
All four hits were singles, and the Yankees only managed to get one runner into scoring position all night as Eflin cruised to the win. The right-hander threw 67 of 92 pitches for strikes en route to his fifth quality starts in 10 outings, and he'll carry a 3.02 ERA into his next start Tuesday at home against the Orioles.

Zack Wheeler SP | PHI
Mets' Zack Wheeler: Seven shutout innings in no-decision
Wheeler did not receive a decision in Wednesday's loss to the Pirates, tossing seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts while allowing five hits and a walk.
Wheeler was dominant, as he didn't allow an extra-base hit and induced 22 swinging strikes en route to throwing 75 strikes out of his 105 pitches on the night. A ninth-inning implosion by closer Jeurys Familia cost the 28-year-old a chance at his first win since April, but it was still good for his fourth quality start in six tries in June. The righty sports a 4.47 ERA and 8.7 K/9 heading into Wednesday's tilt against the Blue Jays.
