  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Cleared for Saturday's start

Matz (finger) was confirmed as the starter for Saturday's game at Arizona, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Matz was supposed to start Thursday but had his start pushed back two days due to a blister on his middle finger. The left-hander will face a Diamondbacks team that is averaging eight runs a game over the last week.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Another simulated game on tap

Kershaw (back) will throw another simulated game Tuesday or Wednesday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Kershaw had a 55-pitch mound session Friday which included simulated inning breaks to test his endurance. The tentative plan appears to be a bullpen session following next week's simulated game and then sending the left-hander out for a rehab start. Kershaw still seems on track for a potential return in early July if all goes according to plan.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Returns from DL ahead of Sunday's start

Teheran (thumb) was activated off the 10-day disabled list Saturday ahead of his scheduled start Sunday against the Padres, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Teheran was expected to be activated Sunday, but the placement of Mike Foltynewicz on the disabled list prompted the move a day early. Teheran had a 4.31 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 56 strikeouts over 71 innings prior to suffering the thumb injury in early June.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Brewers' Wade Miley: Will throw simulated game Sunday

Miley (oblique) is scheduled to throw a simulated game Sunday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Miley resumed playing catch in late May and now appears to be closing in on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 31-year-old isn't eligible to come off the 60-day disabled list until July 9 but would likely need a handful of rehab starts regardless.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Begins rehab assignment Tuesday

Davies (shoulder) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Davies completed another successful bullpen session Saturday and is now on tap for at least three rehab starts. The Brewers seem to be exercising additional caution as the 25-year-old makes a return from rotator cuff inflammation for the second time in the last month, giving him a likely return date in early July if he avoids any setbacks.

  • Jake Thompson SP | PHI

Phillies' Jake Thompson: Back in big leagues

Thompson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday.

Thompson has an ugly 7.27 ERA in 8.2 innings at the big-league level this season, though his 2.40 FIP indicates that there's been a lot of bad luck in that small sample. He's been uninspiring in 31.1 Triple-A innings, however, posting a 5.17 ERA. He and Yacksiel Rios will fill low-leverage roles in the Phillies' bullpen, with Mark Leiter being optioned and Luis Garcia (wrist) hitting the disabled list.

  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Pirates' Tyler Glasnow: Bullpen role increasing

Glasnow recorded his second hold of the season Friday, hurling a scoreless seventh inning against Cincinnati.

Pitching for the first time since June 7, when he threw 37 pitches for the second time in three days, Glasnow retired the Reds on nine pitches. He continues to build into a high-leverage situational option. The righty warmed up in the ninth inning of Wednesday's win in Arizona after closer Felipe Vazquez ran into some trouble, but he wasn't called upon. General manager Neal Huntington said during his most recent radio show that it would be unfair to ask the team's sixth and seventh starters, Steven Brault and Glasnow, to serve as starting pitchers "when you have a need," because they've thrown out of the bullpen for most of 2018. At some point Glasnow will likely get another chance to start, but for now the team needs him out of the pen.

  • Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Allows three home runs in loss

Wacha (8-2) allowed nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits in a loss to the Cubs on Friday, walking four and striking out two in four innings.

Wacha gave up three home runs on the night, starting with a solo homer by Ian Happ, a two-run shot by Kris Bryant and a three-run homer by Kyle Schwarber. Wacha had allowed only five home runs prior to Friday's start, and he hadn't allowed more than four runs in any start before the outing. Despite the rough night, the right-hander still holds a respectable 3.24 ERA and 1.19 WHIP while holding opponents to a .213 batting average. He'll look to get back on track in his next start on the road against the Phillies.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Wins sixth straight

Stripling (6-1) got the win against the Giants on Friday, giving up two earned runs on four hits over 6.1 innings, striking out six and walking none as the Dodgers won 3-2.

The right-hander continues to dominate, as he racked up a sixth straight victory with his latest stellar effort. He's fully earned his 6-1 record, as he's posting absurd numbers to the tune of a microscopic 1.76 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP through 66.1 innings. Perhaps most impressively, he's demonstrating impeccable command, as Stripling has posted a phenomenal 57:4 K:BB since May 6. He'll look to continue his lights-out ways in his next start, which will see him take the mound in a road matchup against the Cubs on Wednesday.

  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

Marlins' Jose Urena: Blanks O's on Friday

Urena (2-8) picked up the win in Friday's 2-0 victory over the Orioles, scattering three hits and a walk over eight scoreless innings while striking out four.

The right-hander took full advantage of a matchup with a reeling Baltimore offense, throwing 68 of 112 pitches for strikes in his best -- and longest -- start of the season. Urena will take a 4.18 ERA into his next outing Wednesday in San Francisco.
