  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Plays long toss Sunday

Kershaw (back) played catch at 60 feet Sunday, Alanna Rizzo of SportsNetLA reports.

Kershaw was reportedly throwing with high intensity Sunday morning, which is obviously a positive sign. He'll still need to begin throwing bullpen sessions and simulated games before potentially going on a minor-league rehab stint in the coming weeks, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. He remains on track for an early-July return.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Eyeing Friday return

Teheran (thumb) hopes to return from the disabled list to start Friday's game against the Padres, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Teheran believes he'll only require the minimum 10 days on the disabled list before rejoining the Braves' starting rotation Friday against the Padres. The starter also mentioned that he's been dealing with arm soreness this season and is hopeful that his brief stay on the DL will help alleviate that issue moving forward and provide him with an uptick in pitch velocity, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He'll throw a bullpen session Tuesday before the Braves determine if a Friday return is realistic.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: May start Wednesday

Maeda (hip) will start Wednesday against the Rangers if his Sunday bullpen session goes well, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Maeda is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Sunday that will determine his availability for Wednesday's contest. The starter last pitched May 29 and currently owns a 3.61 ERA over 52.1 innings this season. An update on his status should become available following his throwing session.

  • Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Picks up eighth win Saturday

Wacha (8-1) allowed two earned runs on four hits and three walks over 5.2 innings in a win over the Reds on Saturday. He struck out six.

Wacha got immediate run support from Jose Martinez and Marcell Ozuna, who both blasted a first-inning homer off Luis Castillo. The right-hander went on to have a good-but-not-great outing, struggling at times with his control on his way to 96 pitches. The two runs Wacha surrendered came on a fourth-inning Eugenio Suarez blast, the first round-tripper he'd surrendered in three starts. Despite the occasional hiccup, Wacha did more than enough to roll to an eighth straight win, a streak he'll look to extend against the Cubs next Friday.

  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

Reds' Luis Castillo: 10 K's in losing effort

Castillo (4-7) struck out 10 Cardinals batters Saturday but still picked up the loss, allowing five runs over six innings on four hits and three walks.

Included in the damage against Castillo were two first-inning homers, giving him 15 homers allowed in 73 innings. Castillo now has a 5.79 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, and a big reason why might be his declining velocity. After averaging 97.5 MPH on his fastball last season, his average fastball this year is 95.3 MPH.

  • MacKenzie Gore SP | TEX

Padres' MacKenzie Gore: Returns from DL

Gore (finger) was activated from the 7-day disabled list Sunday at Low-A Fort Wayne, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Gore is set to come off the DL and start Sunday's game for Fort Wayne after missing roughly the past three weeks with a blister on his throwing hand. The 19-year-old southpaw held a 10.13 ERA (3.52 FIP) over eight innings prior to his placement on the DL.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Recalled prior to Sunday's start

Woodruff was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Sunday.

With Zach Davies still on the disabled list with a shoulder issue, Woodruff will step into the rotation Sunday against the Phillies. The young righty has made three starts and five relief appearances this season for the Brewers and owns a 6.05 ERA over 19.1 innings.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Records quality start

Matz allowed three earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out six across six innings Saturday against the Yankees. He did not factor into the decision.

Matz labored through this start, throwing only 57 of his 105 pitches for strikes while also allowing two home runs. However, he fared well given the circumstances by posting a baseline quality start. He surprisingly navigated the Yankees' big three hitters -- Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Giancarlo Stanton -- without allowing any major damage but was taken yard by both Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres. Despite the poor context to this outing, Matz continued his run of strong results as he now has allowed only five earned runs across his last 22 innings pitched.

  • Alex Wood RP | ATH

Dodgers' Alex Wood: Expects to make next start

Wood is dealing with hamstring and abductor discomfort but is expected to make his next start, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Wood had another short outing Saturday, going 4.2 innings against the Braves while allowing two earned runs and racking up six strikeouts. It marked his second outing of fewer than five innings, and while he was decidedly sharper than he was in his six-run meltdown at Coors Field on June 3, Wood still wasn't "synched up" mechanically, according to manager Dave Roberts. At this point, Wood is still in line to make his next start, but his progress in the coming days will be something to monitor.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Mike Soroka: Will start Wednesday

Soroka (shoulder) will return from the disabled list to start Wednesday's game against the Mets, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Soroka has made two minor-league rehab starts, tossing 4.1 innings (73 pitches) for Triple-A Gwinnett last Wednesday. The 20-year-old was expected to make an additional rehab start for Gwinnett, but will instead start for the Braves. He will be limited to around 85-to-90 pitches in his return to the big leagues.
