  • Marlins' Odrisamer Despaigne: Optioned to New Orleans

Despaigne was sent down to Triple-A New Orleans on Wednesday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Despaigne allowed five runs, though just two were earned, over his past three outings spanning 5.2 innings after coming off the DL (forearm) a couple weeks ago. The right-hander just hasn't seemed to fit into a clear-cut role with the Marlins this season and will look to receive more action at the Triple-A level in the coming weeks. Ben Meyer had his contract selected and will take Despaigne's spot on the roster.

  • Joey Lucchesi RP | LAA

Padres' Joey Lucchesi: Resumes facing hitters

Lucchesi (hip) faced live hitters Tuesday at the Padres' spring training complex in Arizona, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Assuming Lucchesi's hip responded well to the activity, his next step will be making a minor-league rehab assignment or pitching a simulated game at extended spring training, perhaps at some point over the weekend. With that in mind, it appears likely that Lucchesi will miss at least one more turn through the rotation beyond Wednesday's game against the Braves; that start will fall to Matt Strahm, who will take the hill as part of a bullpen game.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Will not be activated this weekend

Davies (shoulder) will not return from the 10-day disabled list during this weekend's series in Philadelphia, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

There was a possibility that Davies would be back in action for Sunday's series finale but the club announced that he won't be an option to rejoin the rotation just yet. The right-hander went down with right rotator cuff inflammation following his start against the Cardinals on May 29. Outside of this update, the Brewers have remained relatively quiet regarding his status, but a plan for his return should come into focus in the near future. In his place, Freddy Peralta could make another spot start after tossing 6.1 scoreless innings for Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Could start for Brewers this weekend

The Brewers have not announced a starter for Sunday's game against the Phillies, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, and Peralta could be the top option to fill the spot.

There was a chance fellow starter Zach Davies (shoulder) could return Sunday, but the report indicates he will not be ready yet, so the Brewers will have to go in another direction. Peralta tossed 6.1 one-hit innings in his last Triple-A start Tuesday and would be pitching on normal rest Sunday, which both very much work in his favor compared to the other possible options. Peralta made two big-league starts earlier this year with mixed results, giving up four earned runs over four innings May 19, after giving up no earned runs and striking out a whopping 13 batters in his big-league debut May 13.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Goes four innings in return

Martinez allowed two runs on four hits and five walks while striking out five over four innings in Tuesday's loss to the Marlins. He did not factor into the decision.

Making his first start in nearly a month after suffering a lat strain, Martinez was lifted after throwing 75 pitches (44 strikes) through four innings in his shortest outing of the year. Though he struggled some with command and issued five free passes for the first time since Opening Day, Martinez noted his arm felt good after the outing and seemed encouraged with how his pitches were working. He'll likely get a longer leash next time out, slated to come Sunday in Cincinnati.

  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

Marlins' Jose Urena: Earns first win

Urena (1-7) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing four runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out three over five innings against the Cardinals.

Urena allowed a season-high 10 hits, but nine of them were singles and he got some help defensively with a pair of double plays and a pickoff to limit the damage somewhat. It was the first win for Urena, and even more remarkably, it was the first time all season the Marlins have won a game he's started. He'll take a 4.60 ERA (3.88 FIP) into Sunday's start against the Padres.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin: Strikes out seven in win

Corbin (6-2) struck out seven and walked two in a win over the Giants on Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits in 6.1 innings.

Corbin got back in the win column Tuesday, outdueling Madison Bumgarner for his seventh quality start on the year. Corbin now carries an excellent 2.87 ERA and 0.94 WHIP while holding opponents to a .188 batting average. His 105 strikeouts trail only Max Scherzer, Gerrit Cole and Chris Sale across baseball, as he has a soaring 11.6 K/9 on the season. His next start will be a matchup with the Pirates at home.

  • Jordan Lyles RP | KC

Padres' Jordan Lyles: Gets rocked by Braves in loss

Lyles (2-2) gave up eight runs on 11 hits in a loss to the Braves on Tuesday, striking out one and walking two in 4.1 innings.

Lyles gave up seven extra-base hits on the evening, including five doubles and two home runs. The righty needed 97 pitches (61 strikes) to get through 4.1 innings, his shortest start since moving into the rotation. Going into Tuesday's contest Lyles had a 3.65 ERA, which has now increased to 4.70. He's still holding a respectable 1.29 WHIP as well as a .249 batting average against. He'll look to get back on track in his next start against the Marlins in Miami.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Takes first loss of season

Musgrove (2-1) took his first loss of the season, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits over five innings against the Dodgers on Tuesday. He walked one and recorded five strikeouts.

Musgrove had not allowed a home run in his first two starts, but allowed a two-run home run to Joc Pederson and a solo shot to Yasiel Puig to account for his earned runs Tuesday. The 25-year-old has a 1.89 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 19 innings, and his next matchup will come against the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Sunday.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Continues strong run

Stripling (4-1) earned the win by allowing four hits over five shutout innings against the Pirates on Tuesday. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

Stripling may not have reached the higher strikeout totals of his previous outings, but was fantastic once again Tuesday, holding the Pirates to four singles. The 28-year-old has given up only five runs (four earned) over his last six starts (34 innings), with 47 strikeouts in that stretch. Stripling's next start is currently expected to come against the Rangers next Tuesday.
