Padres' Jordan Lyles: Allows four earned runs

Lyles allowed four earned runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out four across 5.2 innings Sunday against the Pirates. He did not factor into the decision.

Lyles allowed multiple baserunners in three innings but managed to escape major damage until he surrendered back-to-back home runs to Austin Meadows and Jordy Mercer in the sixth inning. This was his third start of the season, and he has been fairly effective in the role, now allowing five earned runs and striking out 20 batters through 18 innings. He figures to get his fourth start of the season in the Padres' weekend series against the Dodgers.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Allows four earned runs

Williams allowed four earned runs on four hits while walking none and striking out five across six innings Sunday against the Padres. He did not factor into the decision.

Williams allowed only four runners to reach base, but each of them came around to score, with the big blow being a two-run homer by Christian Villanueva in the fourth inning. Williams has found success early in the season by limiting hard contact despite generating just 6.1 K/9, and he now has a 3.05 ERA and 1.08 WHIP through 10 starts this season. His lack of strikeouts is a concern, however, as it not only diminishes his fantasy value but also makes it more difficult for him to work out of jams as was illustrated by his start Sunday.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Throws 56 pitches in rehab start

Davies (shoulder) allowed two runs while striking out nine over 4.2 scoreless innings in a rehab start for Low-A Wisconsin on Saturday.

The results were pristine, and most importantly, there were no reported issues with the shoulder. That said, Davies only built up to 56 pitches in the outing and it seems likely that he will require at least one more rehab start to prepare for a return to the Brewers' rotation.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Serves up three homers against Cubs

Mahle (3-6) took the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings against the Cubs. He gave up three home runs.

It could have been worse, as two of the three long balls were solo shots. Mahle has now given up 13 homers in 53.2 innings this season, with nine of those coming at Great American Ball Park. The right-hander has potential, but it's probably wise to avoid him at home until he shows some improvement with the homer issue. His upcoming road start in Colorado is one most will want to avoid as well.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Picks up first win of season

Darvish (1-3) picked up the win Sunday, allowing one run on two hits and three walks while striking out seven over six innings against the Reds.

It looked like Darvish was in line for another short outing after he needed 40 pitches to get through the first inning, but the right-hander settled in and was dominant over his final five frames. Darvish still has just three quality starts in eight turns and his walk rate remains high, but this was a big step in the right direction. He will look to keep it going next weekend in a home matchup against the Giants.

  • Alex Wood RP | ATH

Dodgers' Alex Wood: Leaves game with apparent injury

Wood left Sunday's game against the Nationals between innings after a visit from a trainer, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Wood was cruising, throwing six innings of two-run ball on 82 pitches before some sort of lower-body issue cropped up. Per Plunkett, Wood dealt with hamstring cramping during a start against Arizona two weeks ago. It's uncertain if this is related in any way.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Throws bullpen session

Kershaw (biceps) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Sunday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

This marks an important step in the rehab process for Kershaw, who had been limited to flat-ground throwing. According to Pedro Moura of The Athletic Los Angeles, Kershaw will throw at least one more mound session before making a start "somewhere." It seems more likely than not that Kershaw will require a minor-league rehab start before returning to the Dodgers' rotation.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Out at least four weeks

Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Hill (blister) will be out at least four weeks, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Hill was placed on the 10-day DL after his blister popped just two pitches into his outing Saturday. The Dodgers will give him ample time to heal up with the hope that he can put this issue to rest for good. A replacement for Hill in the rotation has not yet been named, but the team may consider Dennis Santana, who struck out 11 over six innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Confirmed for Sunday's start

Darvish (calf) will start Sunday against the Reds.

Cramping in Darvish's right calf knocked the right-hander out of Tuesday's game after just 61 pitches, but there was never any indication during the week that this start was in serious jeopardy. Darvish will look to get on track and record just his third quality start in eight turns. Cutting down on the walks will be key (4.8 BB/9 so far this year).

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Penciled in for debut Friday

Musgrove (shoulder) is tentatively scheduled to start Friday against the Cardinals, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Musgrove was knocked around in his most recent rehab outing with Triple-A Indianapolis, allowing six runs on 10 hits in five innings. However, that was apparently not enough to cause the Pirates to deviate from their plan as Musgrove is still scheduled to make his Pittsburgh debut this week. Nick Kingham was optioned to Indianapolis on Sunday.
