  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Will undergo further tests

Wainwright (elbow) will undergo further examinations this week after being placed on the 60-day DL on Thursday, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

Wainwright's initial MRI came back with inconclusive results so the right-hander will head in for a second look following his re-aggravation of an elbow injury he suffered in late April. Look for an update on his diagnosis and timetable to be revealed sometime this weekend.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Fans eight through eight scoreless Thursday

Maeda (3-3) picked up the win Thursday against the Marlins, allowing just two hits across eight scoreless innings while striking out eight and walking none.

After allowing five runs through just 4.2 innings against the Reds in his last start, Maeda bounced back with what was easily his best outing of the season. The right-hander was fantastic throughout Thursday's winning effort, allowing just two Marlins to reach base all afternoon while sitting down the final 17 batters he faced. He needed just 96 pitches -- 71 of which were strikes -- to get through eight innings, marking just the second time in 65 big-league starts that Maeda has completed eight frames. While the 30-year-old has now dominated in two starts against the lowly Marlins this season, allowing just one run across 14 innings, he owns a mediocre 5.40 ERA across 30 innings in his other seven appearances (six starts, one relief appearance). Still, he'll carry a solid 3.89 ERA and 11.0 K/9 into his next start, which will come at home against the Rockies.

  • Tyler Cloyd SP | MIA

Marlins' Tyler Cloyd: Optioned to Triple-A

The Marlins optioned Cloyd to Triple-A New Orleans after Thursday's loss to the Dodgers, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Cloyd pitched well Thursday, allowing four hits and two walks over five scoreless innings, but will return to New Orleans nonetheless. The 31-year-old otherwise struggled with the Marlins this season, having allowed 16 runs on 20 hits and five walks over 8.1 innings prior to Thursday's quality effort.

  • Marlins' Odrisamer Despaigne: Kicks off rehab stint

Despaigne (forearm) made his first rehab appearance Wednesday for High-A Jupiter. He tossed one inning, giving up a run on one hit and a walk while striking out a batter.

It was far from a smooth outing for Despaigne, who surrendered a two-out home run and needed 24 pitches to get through the inning. The right-hander landed on the 10-day disabled list in late April with a right forearm injury and will likely require multiple outings in the minors to prove he's healthy again following a one-month layoff. Look for Despaigne to work in a low-leverage role out of the Miami bullpen once he's activated.

  • Brett Graves SP | ATH

Marlins' Brett Graves: Starts up rehab assignment

Graves (oblique) began a rehab assignment at High-A Jupiter on Thursday, covering three innings and giving up one run on two hits and no walks while striking out two.

Following his selection in the Rule 5 draft over the winter, Graves entered spring training as a long-shot candidate for the Miami rotation, but a left oblique strain suffered in early March effectively ended his bid for a starting role. After taking the last two months off to recuperate, Graves will begin building up his arm again for a starter's workload. It's expected that he'll require at least two more rehab starts before being activated from the 60-day disabled list. Once that happens, Graves will likely work in long relief for the Marlins unless an injury to one of Miami's established starters clears a spot in the rotation.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Transferred to 60-day DL

Wainwright (elbow) was moved to the 60-day disabled list Thursday.

Wainwright will need an extended period of time to recover after aggravating his elbow injury during Sunday's start against the Padres. It appears as though the right-hander will continue to rest his arm for the next couple weeks before resuming a throwing program. If all goes according to plan, he will be back in the Cardinals' rotation prior to the All-Star break. Expect additional updates on his status throughout the next couple months.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Mike Soroka: Scratched from start, placed on DL

Soroka was scratched from his scheduled start against the Cubs on Thursday and placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain.

It's unclear when Soroka suffered the injury, but he'll be forced to miss at least the next week as a result. Mark Bowman of MLB.com relayed that the early thought is the 20-year-old will be ready to make his next start, though the Braves figure to proceed cautiously with one of their top prospects. With the DL stint backdated to May 14, Soroka will be eligible to return May 24 should he be ready. Max Fried was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding roster move and will start in place of Soroka against the Cubs on Thursday.

  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Braves' Max Fried: Recalled; starting Thursday's game

Fried was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett and will start against the Cubs on Thursday.

Fried was scratched from his scheduled start with Triple-A Gwinnett earlier in the day in order to replace the injured Mike Soroka, who was put on the 10-day DL due to a right shoulder strain in a corresponding move. Though he's pitched in four games for Atlanta in 2018, this will be Fried's first big-league start since last season. Over 13 career appearances in the majors, Fried has posted a 4.22 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with 29 strikeouts in 32 innings.

  • Pablo Lopez SP | MIN

Marlins' Pablo Lopez: Making impression at Double-A

Lopez, 22, has posted a 0.35 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 27:4 K:BB across 26 innings (five starts) with Double-A Jacksonville this season.

Viewed mostly as a throw-in piece when he came over from the Mariners last summer in the David Phelps deal, Lopez has emerged as one of the Marlins' better pitching prospects since entering the organization. After delivering a 2.18 ERA over 45.1 innings in the Florida State League in the second half of last season, Lopez has surprisingly improved his performance through his first five outings at Double-A, with a sizable jump in his strikeout rate representing the most notable development. The Marlins thought highly enough of Lopez to protect him from the Rule 5 draft over the winter, so his inclusion on the 40-man roster could result in him getting a look with the big club at some point later this season if he continues to excel in the Southern League.

  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Braves' Max Fried: Scratched from Triple-A start

Fried was scratched from his scheduled start at Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

O'Brien noted that it's a possibility the southpaw will be recalled to the majors but there doesn't seem to be anything concrete as to why Fried was scratched from Thursday's outing at this point. Over four appearances with Atlanta this year, he's logged a 6.00 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with a 7:3 K:BB across six innings of relief.
