  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Will start Sunday on 25-pitch limit

Syndergaard will start Sunday's game against the Phillies but exit at the end of the first inning or once he's reached 25 pitches, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Since Jacob deGrom is dealing with an illness and will be unable to make his scheduled start Saturday, the club will move Seth Lugo up a day and let Syndergaard record one last start before the end of the season. Once Syndergaard hits his limit, Johnny Wholestaff will take over in his place.

  • Seth Lugo SP | KC

Mets' Seth Lugo: Start moved up to Saturday

Lugo will start Saturday's game in Philadelphia, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.

He was slated to pitch the final game of the season on Sunday, but with Jacob deGrom (illness) shut down, Lugo will move up a day. Noah Syndergaard will start Sunday and be limited to 25 pitches in what amounts to a bullpen game.

  • Tommy Milone SP | SEA

Mets' Tommy Milone: Ruled out for this weekend

Milone will miss the rest of the season after being diagnosed with a bone spur in his left elbow, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.

Milone had been dealing with elbow soreness for the past couple days, and will not return to the field this weekend, ending his 2017 season. There shouldn't be any need for concern looking ahead to next season unless surgery is ultimately deemed necessary.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Won't start Saturday due to illness

DeGrom has gastroenteritis and will not make his scheduled start Saturday, James Wagner of The New York Times reports.

Seth Lugo will move up to start Saturday in his place and Noah Syndergaard will start Sunday (limited to 25 pitches), so deGrom's season is over. This is a tough blow for owners who were relying on a final start from deGrom. He finishes the year with career bests in innings (201.1), strikeouts (239), strikeout rate (28.9 percent) and wins (15). While the rest of the Mets' rotation has been ravaged by injuries, deGrom proved to be a true ace, and should be treated as such in 2018 drafts.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Could start Game 1 of NLDS

Hendricks is a possibility to start Game 1 of the NLDS against the Nationals after his strong finish to the regular season, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

While Jake Arrieta has been dealing with a hamstring issue and Jon Lester has struggled in September, Hendricks has a 2.01 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 31.1 innings this month. "He might be pitching as well as anybody in the National League right now," manager Joe Maddon said. Maddon didn't go so far as to announce his rotation, and with the series not starting until next Friday, he might wait until next week.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Underwhelms in season finale

Teheran (11-13) allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out just three batters through six innings to take the loss to Miami on Thursday.

After posting a 2.08 ERA and 1.15 WHIP through his previous six outings, this was a disappointing cap to Teheran's 2017 campaign. He'll finish the season with an underwhelming 4.49 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 7.2 K/9. Still, because of his previous success and flashes of excellence, Terehan projects to remain a polarizing fantasy commodity entering the 2018 campaign.

  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

Cardinals' Lance Lynn: Wild in final appearance before free agency

Lynn allowed one run on three hits with four walks and five strikeouts over five innings in Thursday's no-decision against the Cubs.

Lynn held Chicago off the board after surrendering an Ian Happ home run in the first, but still needed 86 pitches to get through five frames while finishing one walk shy of his season worst. The 30-year-old righty faded down the stretch, failing to pitch more than five innings in any of his final four starts after logging at least six in each of his previous 12 outings and posting quality starts in all but one of those. Lynn did a tremendous job of rebuilding his value heading into free agency after missing all of the 2016 campaign due to Tommy John surgery, finishing with double-digit wins for the fifth time while posting a 3.43 ERA.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Throws five scoreless innings Thursday

Hendricks allowed just four hits with one walk and nine strikeouts over five scoreless innings in Thursday's no-decision at St. Louis.

Hendricks was removed from the game after 81 pitches in an effort to ensure that his tank will be full for next week's NLDS start against Washington. He was in line for the win with a 1-0 lead upon exiting, but quickly saw that possibility erased when St. Louis generated a sixth-inning run against reliever Justin Grimm. Hendricks wraps up the regular season with a 7-5 record and 3.03 ERA in 24 starts while finishing strong with eight consecutive quality starts prior to this short yet dominant outing.

  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Braves' Max Fried: Will start Sunday

Fried will start Sunday's game against the Marlins, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

R.A. Dickey apparently passed on the option to start the Braves' season finale, so Fried will get the ball instead. The 23-year-old owns a respectable 3.21 ERA in 14 innings as a big-league starter this season, but his 4.39 xFIP suggests he may be due for some negative regression.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Ends season with disastrous start

Woodruff was ripped for six runs on six hits and a walk over 2.1 innings in a 6-0 loss to the Brewers on Wednesday. He didn't record a strikeout while taking the loss to move to 2-3 on the season.

After showing great promise in his first several starts, Woodruff limped to the finish line, giving up 19 earned runs over his final 19.1 innings of 2017. He wasn't able to carry forward the success he had missing bats in Double-A and Triple-A to the majors, but Woodruff showed enough to put himself into strong consideration for a rotation spot next year. The 24-year-old righty finishes the season with a 4.81 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 32:14 K:BB over 43 innings spanning eight MLB starts.
