  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

Marlins' Jose Urena: Comes away with win Tuesday

Urena (12-5) picked up the win in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Phillies, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over five innings while striking out three.

The Marlins staked him to a 6-0 lead after two innings en route to a sweep of the twin bill, so despite the fact the righty needed 101 pitches (64 strikes) to complete the minimum five innings necessary to qualify for a win, the outcome was never in much doubt. Urena has won five of his last seven starts thanks mainly to some impressive run support (7.1 runs per game), but his 3.12 ERA and 1.07 WHIP during that stretch indicate he's more than holding up his end of the bargain. He'll next take the mound Monday on the road against the Nationals.

  • Jerad Eickhoff SP | PIT

Phillies' Jerad Eickhoff: Next start pushed back

Eickhoff will have his next start pushed back to Friday, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports.

Jake Thompson will be called up to start Thursday, allowing Eickhoff -- whose fastball velocity has dipped a bit this month -- to have an extra day between starts. GM Matt Klentak said Eickhoff is healthy despite the drop in velocity, and believes the righty can still be an effective pitcher with a velocity drop when he is locating and changing speeds.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin: Evens record with eight sharp frames

Corbin improved to 11-11 on the strength of eight strong innings against the Mets on Tuesday, striking out six while allowing just a single run on four hits and two walks.

While there have been some stumbles along the way -- most notably a brutal implosion against the Cubs on Aug. 1 -- and he's been burned by unearned runs at times, Corbin has turned in a highly fantasy-relevant 13-start stretch. During that span, he's tossed exactly 80 innings, putting up a 2.93 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 84 strikeouts. He's been particularly sharp since that awful outing in Chicago, having given up just four earned runs with a 31:6 K:BB in 29.1 innings over his last four starts, including a scoreless rematch against the Cubs and a near complete-game shutout in Houston. All in all, it looks like the lefty is finally starting to regain his pre-injury form. There'll still be bumps in the road, but he's raised his stock considerably.

  • Tommy Milone SP | SEA

Mets' Tommy Milone: Beaten up by Arizona

Milone (1-3) gave up six runs (five earned) on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 4.2 innings en route to a loss Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.

The Mets are rapidly learning what every other team Milone has played for already knew about the 30-year-old: He isn't particularly good, and his left-handedness isn't reason enough for him to stick in the majors. Arizona jumped on him early, with J.D. Martinez ripping a three-run homer in the top of the first; Milone ended up allowing runs in four of the five innings that saw him take the mound. While the injury-created gaps in the Mets' rotation may mean he retains a starting role for a while, there's pretty much nothing to see here from a fantasy perspective.

  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

Cardinals' Lance Lynn: Tagged for four runs against Padres

Lynn allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings during Tuesday's loss to the Padres. He did not factor into the decision.

Lynn allowed only seven baserunners in his six innings of work Tuesday, but was twice punished by Padres third baseman Yangervis Solarte. Solarte ripped a three-run double in the third inning and added an RBI double in the fifth to account for all four of Lynn's earned runs. This snapped a streak of eight consecutive quality outings. He'll look to rebound in his upcoming Sunday start against the Rays.

  • Pirates' Jameson Taillon: Allows five runs in no-decision versus Dodgers

Taillon allowed five runs on five hits and five walks across five innings in a no-decision Tuesday against the Dodgers. He recorded one strikeout.

Taillon was his own worst enemy in this one, throwing just 54 percent of his pitches for strikes while setting a season high in free passes. He loaded the bases before allowing three runs in the second inning while the Dodgers scratched single runs across in the first and the fourth. Taillon delivered back-to-back quality starts earlier this month, but he has allowed nine earned runs over his last two outings and will carry a lackluster 4.85 ERA into Sunday's start against the Reds.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Could pick up start Saturday

Manager Dave Roberts named Stripling as a candidate to start Saturday's game against the Brewers, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports.

After starting 14 games for the Dodgers as a rookie in 2016, Stripling has worked exclusively in relief this season, submitting a 3.41 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 58 innings. The Dodgers are seemingly intent to deploy Stripling as a long reliever over the final few weeks of the regular season, but with Alex Wood (chest) becoming the latest starter to hit the team's growing list of injured pitchers, few other appealing rotation alternatives exist on the 40-man roster. Since he's tossed no more than three innings in any outing with the big club during the campaign, Stripling could face a limited pitch count if he indeed receives the nod Saturday in what would likely just be a spot start. The Dodgers are hopeful that at least two of Wood, Clayton Kershaw (back) and Yu Darvish (back) will return from the DL next week, which would allow Stripling to head back to the bullpen.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Allows seven runs in loss to Marlins

Nola (9-9) allowed seven runs on nine hits and two walks across 6.1 innings while taking the loss in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Marlins. He struck out seven.

Nola allowed three runs through the first six innings, but he unraveled in the seventh and was removed after a three-run home run from Ichiro Suzuki and a solo shot by Giancarlo Stanton. He pounded the strike zone at a 69 percent clip and induced nine groundball outs, but he simply faded as his pitch count elevated. Nola allowed two earned runs or fewer in 10 straight starts into early August, but he has been tagged for 12 earned runs over 11.1 innings in his last two starts. He will look to get back on track Saturday against the Cubs.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Placed on DL

Matz (elbow) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday.

This is simply procedural, as Matz is already expected to undergo season-ending surgery to repair his injured left elbow. His injury is thought to be similar to the one Jacob deGrom suffered last season, and deGrom has bounced back with a stellar 2017 campaign, so there is hope for Matz next season. Kevin McGowan was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to take Matz's place on the roster, while Tommy Milone is set to take his place in the rotation.

  • Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: Resumes throwing

DeSclafani (elbow) resumed a throwing program after a second opinion confirmed he was dealing with elbow tendinitis, Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

DeSclafani is back on track after forearm discomfort briefly interrupted his rehab from a strained UCL. He'll need to build his pitch count back up, so a return to the Reds this season remains up in the air. A revised timetable for his possible return should become clearer once he's able to resume a rehab assignment.
