  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Reinstated ahead of Monday's start

Ryu (foot) was activated from the 10-day disabled list and is starting Monday's game against the Twins, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

He's back as anticipated, and just in time for the Dodgers, given that the corresponding move is Clayton Kershaw (back) replacing him on the DL. Ryu will face off with Minnesota starter Bartolo Colon in the series opener.

  • Tyler Pill SP | LAD

Mets' Tyler Pill: Returns to New York

Pill was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.

With Zack Wheeler (arm) being placed on the disabled list, the Mets needed a fresh arm to slot into the starting rotation. It's unclear whether that will be Pill, but at the very least, he'll stick around to give the Mets a long-relief option out of the bullpen. In three starts and two relief appearances in the majors this year, the 27-year-old holds a 5.00 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Mets' Zack Wheeler: Hits DL on Monday

Wheeler was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday with a stress reaction in his right arm.

This is the first news of any injury ailing the right-hander, although it may help explain his recent struggles on the mound. It's unclear how long he'll need to be sidelined in order to be back to his old self, but more information should come forth as he resumes activity. Tyler Pill will emerge from the minors to replace him on the active roster.

  • Cody Reed SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Cody Reed: Tosses six shutout innings for High-A club

Reed fanned six batters and gave up an unearned run over six innings for High-A Visalia on Sunday. He yielded four hits and walked three batters in the start.

Reed had a few rough outings during his first month with Visalia after being promoted from Low-A Kane County in late May, but he's been on fire over his last three starts. He's given up only three runs (one earned) in 17 innings during that span while accruing 17 strikeouts and a 1.06 WHIP. The production is especially impressive when considering the hitter-friendly venues that dot the California League, so those tracking Reed in dynasty formats shouldn't be too discouraged if his ERA backslides a bit in his subsequent appearances.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Likely to miss 4-to-6 weeks

Kershaw is estimated to miss 4-to-6 weeks due to his back injury, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.

This is a rough timetable for his return, although it's promising to hear that he isn't expected to miss as much time as he did with a similar ailment last season. Official word should come forth after Kershaw sees his doctor in the next day or so, although this timetable all but guarantees that the Dodgers' ace will be on the disabled list for much of August.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Activated ahead of start

Hendricks (hand) was activated from the 10-day disabled list in advance of his scheduled start Monday against the White Sox, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

In order to clear room in the rotation for Hendricks, the Cubs announced a few days earlier that Mike Montgomery would transition to a bullpen role. After tossing five no-hit innings for Double-A Tennessee in his most recent rehab start a week ago, Hendricks shouldn't face any limitations with his pitch count in his return from the DL. He'll line up for a two-start week, with his second turn coming in the Cubs' three-game series with the Brewers in Milwaukee over the weekend.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Cubs' Jose Quintana: Emerges victorious in Wrigley debut

Quintana lasted six innings Sunday, allowing three runs (all earned) on five hits while striking out seven in a 5-3 win over St. Louis. He issued two walks.

Quintana wasn't as dominant as he was in his 12-strikeout Cubs debut against the Orioles, but he did enough to earn the win in his first start at Wrigley Field. He's now 6-8 on the year with a healthy 128:42 K:BB and appears set for a strong second half after being revitalized in a trade from the lowly White Sox on July 13.

  • Jerad Eickhoff SP | PIT

Phillies' Jerad Eickhoff: Fans six through six in win

Eickhoff (2-7) allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out six batters through six innings during Sunday's win over Milwaukee.

This was another strong outing from Eickhoff, but unfortunately, the 27-year-old righty has mixed in too many duds to be a reliable asset in the majority of fantasy settings. He sports a mediocre 4.71 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 8.4 K/9 for the year, so it's probably best to avoid Eickhoff outside of favorable matchups moving forward. He projects to face the Braves at Citizens Bank Park in his next start.

  • Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Downed by Cubs in primetime

Wacha gave up five earned runs on six hits across six innings in a 5-3 loss to the Cubs on Sunday night. He struck out six and didn't issue a walk.

The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for Wacha, who owned a miniscule 1.01 ERA and 0.86 WHIP during that span. The 26-year-old is now 7-4 with a 3.93 ERA and 100:32 K:BB in 18 starts this season, and is firmly entrenched behind Carlos Martinez and Lance Lynn as the team's No. 3 starter.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Hit for five runs in losing effort Sunday

Ray (9-5) took the loss Sunday against the Nationals, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out four across five innings of work.

Most of the damage done to the southpaw came in the first inning, as the Nationals batted around and tagged him for four runs. He settled down after that, eventually throwing 60 of his 101 pitches for strikes and retiring the final eight hitters he faced. Ray's ERA still sits at a strong 3.15 mark despite the lackluster outing, but he'll look to get back on track in his next start Friday in St. Louis.
