  • Rob Scahill SP | CHW

Brewers' Rob Scahill: Gets DFA'd by Milwaukee

The Brewers designated Scahill for assignment Sunday.

The Brewers will ship Scahill out to make room in the bullpen for Wily Peralta (calf), who was activated from the 10-day disabled list in a corresponding move. Since rejoining the big-league squad in late June, Scahill made five appearances with the Brewers, compiling a 7.71 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. Assuming Scahill clears waivers, it's expected that he'll stick in the organization and report to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Dealing with respiratory ailment

Hill, who struck out eight over 6.1 innings Saturday against the Braves to pick up his seventh win of the season, revealed after the game that he is dealing with a respiratory ailment, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Considering he was dominant against the Braves despite battling an illness and is not in line to pitch until next Friday or Saturday against the Giants, it doesn't seem likely that Hill will miss a start. Nonetheless, it is worth keeping an eye on his status in advance of weekly lineups locking next week.

  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

Cardinals' Lance Lynn: Strong candidate for trade

Lynn and general manager John Mozeliak met Saturday to discuss the team's trade-deadline plans, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Given that he's an impending free agent and owns a solid 8-6 record and 3.30 ERA, Lynn makes for the prototypical trade candidate at the deadline. The 30-year-old right-hander has dispelled concerns about any lingering effects from his 2016 Tommy John surgery and has maintained the same average low-90s velocity on his fastball that he'd possessed before the injury. Despite the strong season, the Cardinals have not had any discussions with him about a contract extension, much to Lynn's chagrin. If the plan is indeed to let him walk, the team would likely be wise to find a suitor before the July 31 trade deadline, considering they'd only receive draft-pick compensation if he departs in free agency.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Dominant stretch continues

Hill gave up two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight in 6.1 innings Saturday against the Braves, improving to 7-4 on the season.

He has now given up three runs or fewer in six straight starts while striking out 52 in 37.1 innings over that stretch, reestablishing himself as one of the top starting pitchers in baseball. Of course, he has struggled at times this season and has famously missed plenty of time with injuries over the years, so there's no telling how long it will last, but for now, he appears to be matchup proof. Hill will start next weekend at home against the Giants.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Serves up three homers against Dodgers

Teheran gave up four runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out six over 6.1 innings Saturday against the Dodgers.

It really could have been a lot worse, as Teheran was facing an offense that destroys right-handed pitching, and he somehow gave up three home runs and nine hits while only yielding four total runs. Teheran had recently strung together three straight quality starts, lowering his ERA from 5.30 to 4.69, prior to Saturday. He will look to get back on track next Friday in Philadelphia.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Mets' Zack Wheeler: Allows five runs Saturday

Wheeler allowed five runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out six batters through five innings in a no-decision against Oakland on Saturday.

Wheeler has now allowed 11 runs through 16.1 innings over his past three starts. It's a discouraging stretch because he had showed nice fantasy potential after posting a 3.45 ERA and 8.0 K/9 in his first nine starts of the year. For now, it's likely best to leave Wheeler to deep settings, or at least be very selective with his matchups. A date at Petco Park against the Padres is up next for the 27-year-old righty.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Throws quality start Saturday

Wainwright (11-5) allowed two runs on four hits while striking out three over 7.2 innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Saturday.

Wainwright was at his best for seven innings as he held the Cubs scoreless, but he ran out of steam, giving up a pair of runs that cost him a shot at his 12th victory. He's held opponents to two or fewer earned runs in six of his last seven starts, and despite a 4.89 ERA overall, he's been a strong fantasy option during that timeframe. He'll make his next start Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Slated to start Monday

Hendricks (hand) will start Monday against the White Sox, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.

While Hendricks only built up to 63 pitches in his final rehab start, he was dominant in that outing, throwing five perfect innings with three strikeouts. He will be afforded a relatively soft landing in his return -- the White Sox rank 27th in terms of wRC+ against right-handed pitching this season -- but the second half of the two-step (at Milwaukee) is more daunting.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Diamondbacks' Taijuan Walker: Expected to make next start Tuesday

Walker (personal), who was placed on the paternity list Thursday, isn't expected to start again until Tuesday's game against the Braves, Jarrid Denney of MLB.com reports. "I had a nice conversation with [Walker on Friday]," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said. "Everybody's healthy; [Walker and his wife] had a beautiful baby son...He'll take the full three days on the paternity list. We're going to slot him in after this series [with the Nationals] and it's looking like that will be Tuesday."

With Walker away from the team until Sunday, the Diamondbacks will require a spot starter Saturday against the Nationals in order to keep the other four members of the rotation on their normal pitching schedules. Anthony Banda will be recalled from Triple-A Reno to make his major-league debut Saturday, but it's expected that he'll be shipped back to the minors the following day to clear the way for Walker's activation. Since All-Stars Robbie Ray and Zack Greinke are in line to pitch Sunday and Monday, respectively, Walker won't vault ahead of either in the pitching schedule and will instead take the hill Tuesday, resulting in Patrick Corbin and Zack Godley receiving additional days of rest in between starts.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Carried by offense to win Friday

Williams (4-4) was tagged for five runs on seven hits and two walks over 6.2 innings while striking out four in Friday's 13-5 win over the Rockies.

The right-hander settled down after allowing three runs in the first inning and let his offense take control, as the Pirates only failed to cross the plate in the third and eighth frames. Williams only has five quality starts in 14 trips to the mound since joining the rotation, and his 4.74 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 6.5 K/9 make him a generally risky fantasy play, although he'll be a solid streaming option in his next start Wednesday on the road in San Francisco.
