Braxton Garrett SP | MIA
Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Resumes throwing program
Garrett (forearm) has began playing catch, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Garrett will finally resume a throwing program after being placed on the injured list June 23 with a strained left forearm. The 26-year-old was deemed asymptomatic last week but spent several days focusing on strengthening his forearm before starting to throw. Garrett still has several checkpoints to complete before being activated and shouldn't be expected back for several weeks.

Sandy Alcantara SP | MIA
Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Throwing bullpen session Wednesday
Alcantara (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Alcantara began a throwing program back in March, but this will be his first time throwing off a mound since his October 2023 Tommy John surgery. He won't be back this season, but the Marlins anticipate the former Cy Young winner to be ready to roll heading into 2025.

Jordan Montgomery SP | TEX
Diamondbacks' Jordan Montgomery: Back from IL, starting Tuesday
The Diamondbacks reinstated Montgomery (knee) from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday against the Royals, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
The veteran left-hander has been on the shelf nearly a month due to right knee inflammation and is returning to Arizona's rotation without a minor-league rehab assignment. Montgomery threw 56 pitches in a simulated game Thursday and will likely face some minor workload limitations in his first couple starts back with the Diamondbacks.

Jared Jones SP | PIT
Pirates' Jared Jones: Tuesday's session on flat ground
Jones' (lat) throwing session Tuesday was from flat ground, not from the mound as previously indicated, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Destin had reported earlier that Jones was throwing a bullpen session, but he later issued a correction, noting it was a flat-ground throwing session from the Pirates' bullpen. While it means the right-hander isn't quite as far along as previously indicated, it's still good news that he is doing any kind of throwing for the second day in a row. Jones has been sidelined for most of July with a Grade 2 right lat strain.

Jared Jones SP | PIT
Pirates' Jared Jones: Throws bullpen session
Jones (lat) threw a bullpen session at PNC Park on Tuesday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Jones did some flat-ground throwing Monday and was then spotted progressing to mound work a day later, which is certainly a good sign as he works his way back from a Grade 2 lat strain. The Pirates will certainly proceed cautiously with the prized youngster, particularly since he was going to have his workload limited somewhat down the stretch, anyway, but this is a big step in his recovery.

Kyle Tyler RP | BAL
Marlins' Kyle Tyler: Officially summoned
The Marlins recalled Tyler from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday. He'll start Tuesday's game against the Orioles.
As expected, Tyler will join the Marlins' active roster to make his fourth big-league start of the season. While he'll face a tough Orioles lineup, Tyler showed well in some difficult matchups earlier in the season, logging a 3.21 ERA with nine strikeouts across 14 innings in his three starts against Boston, Philadelphia and Seattle.

Lyon Richardson SP | CIN
Reds' Lyon Richardson: Summoned from minors
The Reds recalled Richardson from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.
Nick Martinez is starting Tuesday's game in Atlanta after a couple months pitching as a reliever, so Richardson will give the club some length in the bullpen. Richardson has posted a 4.43 ERA and 76:52 K:BB over 83.1 innings covering 19 appearances (18 starts) with Louisville in 2024.

Davidjohn Herz P | WAS
Nationals' DJ Herz: Drawing start Tuesday
The Nationals recalled Herz from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
The left-hander will start Tuesday's game against the Padres. Herz was sent down earlier this month mostly as a means to give him some extra rest around the All-Star break. The left-hander should have a decent chance to remain in the Nationals' rotation for the remainder of the season. Herz holds a 5.17 ERA and 41:9 K:BB over 31.1 innings covering seven starts in the majors this season, which includes a pair of double-digit strikeout games.

Michael Kennedy SP | CLE
Pirates' Michael Kennedy: Out with undisclosed injury
Single-A Bradenton placed Kennedy on the 7-day injured list June 16 with an undisclosed injury.
Kennedy, a 19-year-old southpaw, logged a 4.70 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 60:11 K:BB in 53.2 innings across 11 starts for the Marauders before landing on the shelf. His 3.35 xFIP and 21.6 K-BB% were strong marks, and he is a better prospect than his Single-A ERA suggests.
