Nastrini (0-6) allowed one run on three hits and a walk over six innings Thursday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Rangers.

Nastrini had the best start of his young career Thursday but still came away with a hard-luck loss against the Rangers. Nastrini pitched six innings for the first time this season, but he now has six losses in seven career starts. The 24-year-old has allowed three hits or less in five of his seven starts but has struggled with his control. Nastrini had more walks than innings pitched coming into Thursday's game, and the single walk Thursday was the first time he hasn't issued multiple free passes.

Eovaldi (10-7) pitched seven scoreless innings in Thurday's win over the White Sox. He gave up one hit, two walks and struck out 10.

Eovaldi made easy work of the White Sox again Thursday, as it's the second time this season he's recorded 10 punchouts against them. It was the 34-year-old's second career start of seven or more scoreless innings with double-digit strikeouts. Eovaldi has won back-to-back starts after a streak of three straight losses, and he now has 10 or more wins in three of his last four seasons.

Civale (5-8) allowed two hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings Thursday, striking out seven to get the win over the Giants.

Civale was brilliant Thursday and delivered his second scoreless outing of the season, both of which have come since being acquired by Milwaukee. It was the right-hander's third career start of seven or more shutout innings and his first since April 2023. Civale has kept his opponents off the scoreboard in two of his last three starts and has a 3.72 ERA in his first nine starts with the Brewers.

Birdsong (3-4) allowed five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out six over 3.2 innings to take the loss versus the Brewers on Thursday.

Birdsong has great stuff, as evidenced by his 60 strikeouts through 49 career innings, but he once again was plagued by control issues Thursday. The rookie walked four batters for his second straight start and has now given up five or more runs in three of his last five outings. Birdsong will want to turn the page on a rough month of August after giving up 18 runs in five starts, and he will take a 5.14 ERA into his next turn through the rotation.

Phillips is likely to be recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to start Tuesday in Toronto, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

He'll be taking the rotation spot vacated by Taijuan Walker, who has been demoted to the bullpen. Phillips has offered a mixed bag during his 36 major-league innings, throwing a shutout and adding one other scoreless start but getting demoted after allowing 17 runs in 11 frames in August. He could earn additional starts after Tuesday, but Kolby Allard will also become an option once he's eligible to be recalled on Sept. 10.

Manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that Walker will work out of the bullpen going forward, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

After surrendering six earned runs on 13 hits and a walk without recording a strikeout in six innings against the Astros on Wednesday, Walker has now officially lost his place in the Phillies' rotation. He'll serve as a long reliever as he joins Philly's bullpen, and the team will need to recall someone -- likely Tyler Phillips -- from Triple-A to fill the open rotation spot, which is due to pitch in Toronto on Tuesday.

Kochanowicz (2-4) earned the victory Thursday, allowing five hits and no walks over six scoreless innings against the Tigers. He struck out four.

Kochanowicz was great over six scoreless innings on Thursday, and it's the first time through six MLB outings he's kept an opponent off the scoreboard. Kochanowicz allowed 12 runs in his first two starts but has pitched much better of late, giving up seven runs combined over his last four starts. The rookie right-hander has a 2.45 ERA in those four starts but only has seven strikeouts over 25.2 innings.

Montero (4-6) took the loss Thursday against the Angels, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out five.

Montero entered Thursday's game with a 3-0 record and 3.00 ERA over his last four starts, but he was bested by the Angels. Montero still managed to get through five innings, and he has now gone 11 straight starts pitching five or more innings. The right-hander has a 5.17 ERA over 69.2 innings in his rookie campaign.

Aldegheri will be called up from Double-A Rocket City to make his major-league debut Friday against the Mariners, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Aldegheri was acquired from the Phillies at the trade deadline in the deal that sent reliever Carlos Estevez to Philadelphia. The promotion is an aggressive one for the left-hander, who has made just six starts at the Double-A level, but he has recorded 134 strikeouts over 95.1 innings between High-A and Double-A in 2024. Aldegheri will presumably get a chance to make additional starts with the Angels if he pitches well in his MLB debut.

The Angels will call up Dana from Double-A Rocket City to start Sunday's game against the Mariners, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Regarded as the best pitching prospect in the Angels' farm system, Dana will skip the Triple-A level to make his MLB debut against a weak Mariners offense that ranks 29th in the majors with a .666 OPS on the season. The 20-year-old righty owns a 2.59 ERA and 0.95 WHIP through 23 starts with Rocket City this season, and he leads all Double-A pitchers with 147 strikeouts through 135.2 innings. It's unclear if he'll remain in the Angels rotation past Sunday, though a strong outing against Seattle would certainly improve his chances.
