Lugo (4-1) earned the win Friday in Detroit after he struck out nine and allowed three hits and two walks across seven scoreless innings.

The right-hander generated 13 swinging strikes on 103 pitches as he and Detroit starter Reese Olson combined to give up just one run in 14 frames. The swing-and-miss stuff from Lugo was a step in the right direction after he posted a 4.1 K/9 through his first five starts of the season. The beginning of Lugo's tenure in Kansas City couldn't have gone much better though, as he has a 1.66 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 38 innings.

Olson (0-4) took the loss Friday against the Royals after he allowed one run on three hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out eight.

The right-hander allowed a run on two hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly during the third inning but otherwise kept Kansas City off the board. It wasn't enough to prevent Olson's fourth straight loss, however, as Detroit was shut out for the third time this season. Despite the ugly record, the 24-year-old has a strong 3.18 ERA through five starts, though a 1.31 WHIP and 26:11 K:BB aren't quite as attractive.

Cavalli (elbow) is scheduled to face live batters Monday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

The right-hander has recently been ramping things up in his bullpen sessions and is now ready to face live hitters for the first time since he underwent Tommy John surgery in March of 2023. Cavalli will likely require at least a couple live sessions before progressing to a rehab assignment, which should include a handful of starts in the minors.

Bradford (back) was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his rib Friday and is expected to be sidelined for about a month, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The left-hander wasn't progressing as expected in his recovery after landing on the shelf April 14 with lower-back soreness, and a rib stress fracture is the apparent culprit. Bradford will now be sidelined through at least late May, and a more specific timeline should come into focus as he ramps up his rehab work.

Puk is playing catch and is no longer feeling fatigue in his left shoulder, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Puk landed on the injured list last weekend, but it sounds like he could have a shot to return when his 15 days are up or close to it. He will shift back to a relief role when he does make it back and should eventually be in the mix for high-leverage work in what has been a very shaky Marlins bullpen.

Pivetta (elbow) will throw a 50-pitch live batting practice session Saturday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

If Pivetta comes out the live BP session without any hiccups, he should be cleared to make a rehab start next week. That would probably set him up to rejoin the Red Sox rotation the following week if all goes well. Pivetta has been out since early April with a right elbow flexor strain.

Miley was diagnosed with a torn UCL in his left elbow Friday and will undergo Tommy John surgery, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

The 37-year-old landed on the shelf with elbow swelling early in the week and had his initial MRI results come back inconclusive, but an in-person arthrogram revealed the worst-case scenario. It's a brutal development for the Brewers' rotation and for Miley individually. At this point, he says he plans to continue his career after recovering from the procedure, McCalvy reports. "I've always said I want to go out on my own [terms]," Miley said Friday. "I still feel like I've got more in the tank."

Manager Dave Roberts said Friday on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that Buehler (elbow) will make another rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday before potentially returning from the 15-day injured list.

The right-hander threw 86 pitches and allowed five runs (three earned) over 4.1 innings Wednesday for Oklahoma City, and the Dodgers don't feel he's quite ready to make his 2024 debut. Buehler's performance in five starts during the rehab assignment has been underwhelming with a 4.86 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB over 16.2 innings.

Megill (shoulder) will start a rehab assignment Saturday at High-A Brooklyn, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander suffered a shoulder strain in his season debut March 31 against the Brewers, but he's now recovered from the injury and is ready for game action. Megill figures to require at least two starts in the minors before being cleared to rejoin the Mets' rotation.

Senga (shoulder) threw an up-and-down bullpen session Thursday and is slated to face hitters Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

It will be the right-hander's first time facing hitters since he was diagnosed with a shoulder capsule strain back in late February. Senga still faces a long road ahead, but he's making progress and is closing in on a rehab assignment. He is on the 60-day injured list and not eligible for activation until late May.
