Morton (7-10) took the loss Saturday as the Tigers fell 7-4 to the Angels, coughing up six runs on seven hits and a walk over 4.1 innings. He struck out 10.

The veteran righty produced 21 swinging strikes among his 90 pitches (62 total strikes) and fired first-pitch strikes to 19 of the 22 batters he faced, but Morton gave up plenty of hard contact as well -- four of the seven hits off him went for extra bases, including homers by Jo Adell and Taylor Ward that accounted for five of the runs against him. Morton has served up seven long balls in his last five starts and 28.1 innings, a stretch in which he's stumbled to a 6.35 ERA and 1.55 WHIP despite a 29:12 K:BB. He'll try to keep the ball in the park in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in Minnesota.

Kikuchi (6-7) picked up the win in Saturday's 7-4 victory over the Tigers, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out seven.

The southpaw wasn't at his sharpest, but he generated 30 called or swinging strikes on his 102 pitches (64 total strikes) and got backed by three homers from the Angels. Kikuchi has completed six innings only once since the beginning of July, compiling a 4.68 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 47:14 K:BB through 42.1 innings over that stretch. He'll try to tighten things up in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend against the A's.

Gil didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Astros, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out seven.

It was a much better performance from Gil than in his season debut last Sunday, as Gil racked up 36 called or swinging strikes among his 91 pitches (60 total strikes). He left the mound with the Yankees holding a 4-2 lead, but Camilo Doval and David Bednar combined to blow another save. Gil will look for his first victory of 2025 in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in St. Louis.

Valdez came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Yankees, giving up four runs on eight hits and four walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out one.

The southpaw wasn't fooling anyone Saturday, managing just five swinging strikes among his 91 pitches (52 total strikes), and Valdez left the mound in line for his sixth loss of the season until the Yankees' bullpen blew another save chance. It was the first time he'd failed to complete six innings since June 12, and Valdez has produced back-to-back shaky outings for the first time all year, getting tagged for 10 runs (nine earned) with a 4:5 K:BB over 11.2 innings. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Orioles.

DeGrom (10-5) took the loss against Philadelphia on Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out eight batters over 6.2 innings.

DeGrom got through six scoreless innings but couldn't hold on in the seventh. In that frame, he got the first hitter out but then allowed the next three batters to reach base via a single, a walk and a two-run double. The third run against deGrom came after he left the contest. Though the All-Star hurler was ultimately tagged with his third straight defeat, this was at least a strong turnaround after he gave up 10 runs across 10.1 innings over his previous two starts. In addition to finishing with a quality start Saturday, deGrom also racked up an impressive 18 whiffs, so his stuff was mostly working despite the final outcome. He'll try to get back in the win column in what projects to be a road matchup in Toronto his next time out.

Luzardo (11-5) earned the win over the Rangers on Saturday, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out four batters over six innings.

Luzardo gave up a run in the first frame but wasn't scored upon again in the outing. He notched a modest four punchouts but got key outs when needed and retired the final five batters he faced. Luzardo has picked up a quality start in each of his past three appearances, giving up just four runs across 19 innings during that span. The left-hander's victory Saturday was his 11th of the campaign, establishing a new career-high mark.

Evans (6-4) earned the win Saturday, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks over 5.1 innings against the Rays. He struck out four.

The rookie gave up a first-inning homer to Brandon Lowe but settled in to pitch into the sixth before being lifted for Caleb Ferguson, who surrendered a three-run shot to Junior Caminero that brought home both of Evans' inherited runners. After a strong start to his big-league career, Evans has hit a rough patch, allowing multiple runs in five of his past six outings -- including two six-run performances. For the season, the right-hander holds a 4.36 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 74.1 innings in 14 starts.

Giolito allowed four runs on five hits and six walks while striking out one over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Saturday.

Giolito hasn't had control problems this year, but he struggled to find the strike zone Saturday, landing just 55 of 97 pitches for strikes. The six walks were double his previous season high, but he's now allowed four or more runs in three of his last five starts. Giolito has a reasonable 3.77 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 82:33 K:BB through 100.1 innings over 18 starts this year, and his recent shaky performance can be chalked up to a tough run of opponents. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Marlins.

Bassitt (11-6) took the loss Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over 4.2 innings against the Dodgers. He struck out two.

The right-hander made it through three scoreless frames before giving up a two-run homer to Max Muncy in the fourth inning and a towering solo shot to Shohei Ohtani in the fifth, which put him on track for the loss. Bassitt has had an inconsistent season, recording a 4.17 ERA and 1.32 WHIP, but he's remained dependable in taking the ball every fifth day and providing length, logging 133.2 innings across 25 appearances.

King (shoulder) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one over two-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Red Sox on Saturday.

King threw 61 pitches in his lone rehab start after missing over two months due to the shoulder injury. He didn't get as far in his major-league return, throwing 57 pitches (35 strikes) in a shaky performance Saturday. This suggests he'll still need to build up over his next few outings before returning to a full starter's workload. He's at a 2.81 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 65:19 K:BB through 57.2 innings over 11 starts this season. King is tentatively projected to make his next start on the road against the Dodgers -- if that comes with any type of workload restriction, it will be difficult for him to pitch deep enough to qualify for a win.
