  • Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Decent in no-decision

Montgomery allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Twins on Sunday.

This was the first time in eight starts since the All-Star break that Montgomery has failed to complete six innings. He left Sunday's contest with one out and the bases loaded in the sixth inning, and Chris Stratton promptly gave up a grand slam to begin his relief appearance. Despite the mediocre outing, Montgomery still has a 2.30 ERA over five starts (31.1 innings) for the Rangers. Overall, he's posted a 3.19 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 138:40 K:BB through 152.1 innings between Texas and St. Louis this year. He's lined up for a rematch at home versus the Twins next weekend.

  • Bailey Ober SP | MIN

    Twins' Bailey Ober: Ineffective Sunday

Ober allowed five runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four over four innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Sunday.

Ober's winless streak reached seven outings, and this was the first time in August he failed to complete five innings. He gave up a solo home run to J.P. Martinez and a grand slam to Jonah Heim in the contest, continuing a stretch of eight straight starts in which Ober has allowed a homer. For the season, the right-hander has a 3.67 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 120:26 K:BB through 122.2 innings over 22 starts. He's projected for a road rematch against the Rangers next weekend.

  • Padres' Michael Wacha: Walks five in no-decision

Wacha allowed four runs on four hits and five walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Brewers on Sunday.

Wacha was responsible for the first two runs of the Brewers' seven-run rally in the sixth inning, but Steven Wilson ended up on the hook for the loss. Wacha matched his season high with five walks, and this was the first time since April 20 that he's allowed more than three runs. The veteran right-hander is now at a 2.84 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 90:33 K:BB through 101.1 innings across 18 starts this season. Given how well he's pitched for the majority of the season, there's little reason to be concerned heading into his next projected start at home versus the Giants.

  • Paul Blackburn RP | NYY

Athletics' Paul Blackburn: Yields four runs in loss

Blackburn (3-4) allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings to take the loss Sunday versus the White Sox.

Blackburn gave up four or more runs for just the third time in his last eight starts. He didn't have enough run support to come close to a win in this outing. For the season, the right-hander has a 4.15 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 86:29 K:BB through 84.2 innings over 16 appearances (15 starts). He's projected for a home start versus the Angels his next time out.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Excellent against Oakland

Clevinger (6-6) allowed a run on one hit and two walks while striking out 10 over seven innings to earn the win Sunday over the Athletics.

This was the second time in three starts Clevinger has gone seven innings. He's walked eight batters and struck out 21 while allowing five runs over 19 innings in that span. The right-hander is now at a 3.32 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 85:38 K:BB through 97.2 innings across 18 starts this season. Clevinger is projected to make his next start at home versus the Tigers.

  • Guardians' Noah Syndergaard: Designated for assignment

Syndergaard was designated for assignment by the Guardians on Sunday, Julia Kreuz of MLB.com reports.

Syndergaard was traded from the Dodgers to the Guardians in late July, and he made six starts for his new club. He was inconsistent during his time with Cleveland and will lose his spot on the 40-man roster after giving up five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three in six innings Sunday against the Blue Jays. Cal Quantrill (shoulder) is slated to return from the injured list this week, so Syndergaard was no longer needed as a starter. If he clears waivers, it wouldn't be surprising to see Syndergaard elect free agency so he can seek out another organization for the final month of the regular season.

  • Drew Rom RP | ATH

Cardinals' Drew Rom: Better in second start

Rom (0-2) took the loss Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over 5.1 innings against the Phillies. He struck out six.

It was certainly a better performance from Rom after he allowed eight runs (six earned) across 3.2 innings in his big-league debut. Still, the rookie left-hander took a second loss as the Cardinals offense couldn't crack Aaron Nola in a 3-0 defeat. Rom had shown some promise in the minors this season, working to a 2.70 ERA while striking out 45 over his last seven Triple-A starts (33.1 innings). Sunday's outing could earn him another shot in the Cardinals' rotation -- Rom would currently line up for a home matchup with the Pirates next week.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Dominant against St. Louis

Nola (12-8) earned the win Sunday, allowing one hit and one walk over seven scoreless innings against the Cardinals. He struck out nine.

Nola was at his best Sunday, allowing just two men to reach base while going seven innings for his second consecutive start. It's the third straight win for Nola, who's worked to a 2.63 ERA over his last four outings (24 innings). He lowered his ERA to 4.30 on the season with a 1.12 WHIP and 174:41 K:BB across 27 starts (167.1 innings) this season. Nola will look to keep rolling in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week in Milwaukee.

  • Bailey Falter RP | ATL

Pirates' Bailey Falter: Falls to Cubs

Falter (1-8) took the loss Sunday, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk over 4.2 innings against the Cubs. He struck out three.

Falter held the Cubs to one run through his first three innings before Jeimer Candelario broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run homer in the fourth. That was followed by a Chicago three-run, two-out rally in the fifth. It was a tough day for the 26-year-old Falter, who allowed just two runs over his previous two outings (11.1 innings). The southpaw's ERA is now up to 5.04 with a 1.45 WHIP and 49:15 K:BB across 64.1 innings this season. Falter's currently scheduled for a road matchup with the Cardinals in his next start.

  • Brewers' Adrian Houser: Suffers forearm injury in start

Houser was removed after two innings in his start in Sunday's game against the Padres due to an injury the Brewers have labeled as "minor right forearm tightness," Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. He gave up four earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two before departing.

Though even "minor" forearm injuries have a tendency to send pitchers to the 15-day injured list, the Brewers will likely wait and see if Houser feels well enough to throw a bullpen session over the next few days before determining if he'll be able to make his next turn through the rotation, which would likely fall next weekend versus the Phillies. Houser had reached five innings in each of his last four starts while pitching to a 3.80 ERA and 1.13 WHIP before his early exit Sunday.
