  • Cole Irvin RP | LAD

    Orioles' Cole Irvin: Promotion imminent

Irvin will be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday to start against the Royals, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Irvin has made four appearances (three starts) this season with Baltimore with limited success. He holds a 10.38 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in the majors through 13 innings, but his Triple-A numbers (3.21 ERA and 1.05 WHIP) are much more reassuring. Irvin will have the benefit of facing a Royals lineup that ranks 27th in team OPS this year, but his shaky history makes him a risky fantasy play.

  • Tigers' Spencer Turnbull: Moved to 60-day IL

The Tigers transferred Turnbull (neck) to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Turnbull landed on the 15-day injured list last month retroactive to May 7 and has yet to resume throwing. The move to the 60-day IL will keep him out until closer to the All-Star break and open a spot on the 40-man roster for Nick Solak, who was claimed off waivers from Atlanta on Friday.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Set for more live bullpens

Rodon (back/forearm) will throw at least two more live bullpen sessions before moving on to an extended rehab assignment, Max Goodman of NJ Advance Media reports.

Rodon threw his first bullpen session at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday and said it was "good," emphasizing that it was a "big step" in his recovery. The southpaw threw 20 pitches and sat at 92-94 mph with his fastball. The tentative plan is for him to throw again Sunday, according to manager Aaron Boone, and Rodon will then have at least one more live BP before embarking on a minor-league rehab stint. Considering that timeline, it appears Rodon won't make his Yankees debut until at least early July.

  • Reds' Graham Ashcraft: Placed on IL with calf injury

Ashcraft was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday with a left calf contusion.

Ashcraft had indicated after taking a comebacker off the calf Thursday versus the Dodgers that he would be fine for his next turn in the rotation. However, given his struggles over the last month -- the right-hander has surrendered seven or more runs in four of his last six outings -- it makes sense to give him some downtiime to get healthy and also work on things. With Ashcraft on the shelf, Andrew Abbott should remain in the Reds rotation.

  • Matt Sauer RP | LAD

Yankees' Matt Sauer: Roughed up in '23 debut

Sauer (forearm) retired just two hitters and allowed five runs (four earned) on two hits and one walk while striking out one in a rehab outing Monday for the Yankees' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate.

Sauer has spent the entire 2023 season on Double-A Somerset's 7-day injured list while recovering from a right forearm strain. Though he's reached the final phase of his recovery program, Sauer looks like he'll need at least a couple more outings in the FCL or the lower levels of the minors before rejoining the Somerset rotation.

  • Julio Urias SP | LAD

Dodgers' Julio Urias: Returning to rotation Sunday

The Dodgers are planning to activate Urias (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list to have him start Sunday's series finale in Philadelphia, MLB.com reports.

He'll get the green light to rejoin the rotation despite not heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment, as manager Dave Roberts said he felt confident about the left-hander's health after Urias completed a two-inning simulated game Tuesday and then threw two more innings in the bullpen. Though Roberts acknowledged that Urias' left hamstring still occasionally feels tight, the skipper suggested that the 27-year-old is no longer limited by the issue.

  • Gerrit Cole SP | NYY

Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Good to go Friday

Cole (cramps) is listed as the Yankees' scheduled starter for Friday's home game against the Red Sox.

Cole will return to the mound on five days' rest after his most recent start last Saturday against the Dodgers was cut short when he experienced cramping. The Yankees didn't send in the right-hander for any further testing, so Cole never looked to be at any major risk of missing out what will be his 14th start of the season. Cole carries a 7-0 record, 2.82 ERA and 1.13 WHIP into Friday's contest.

  • Dodgers' Michael Grove: Remains in rotation

Grove is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Phillies in Philadelphia.

He'll be making his second straight turn through the Dodgers rotation. Grove returned from a stint on the 15-day injured list June 3 and allowed four runs over five innings while striking out seven in a loss to the Yankees. The Dodgers could get Julio Urias (hamstring) back from the IL on Sunday, but with Noah Syndergaard (finger) sidelined, Grove's spot in the rotation appears safe for now.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Hammered in loss

Kluber allowed seven runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out one over 3.1 relief innings in Thursday's 10-3 loss to Cleveland.

Kluber made his third appearance since moving from the rotation to the bullpen, taking over from Matt Dermody in the fifth inning. and he was left in for an ugly sixth inning despite allowing eight consecutive hits to start the frame. Manager Alex Cora told Ian Browne of MLB.com that he wanted to "reset our bullpen" and get ready for a three-game weekend series in New York against the Yankees. Kluber, who was Boston's Opening Day starter and a two-time Cy Young Award winner in his days with Cleveland, watched his ERA swell to 7.13 following the outing as he tries to adjust to a low-leverage role.

  • Reid Detmers SP | LAA

Angels' Reid Detmers: Registers first win

Detmers (1-5) earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings against the Cubs. He struck out eight.

Detmers finally earned his first win of the campaign after several mediocre outings. This was the southpaw's first time not allowing multiple runs in a start this season. The 23-year-old is tentatively slated to face the Rangers on the road in his next appearance.
