  • Pablo Reyes RF | SD

Yankees' Pablo Reyes: Making push for roster spot

Reyes appears to have surpassed Oswald Peraza on the Yankees' depth chart and is a "strong candidate" to make the team's Opening Day roster, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Reyes would fill two needs -- a right-handed bench bat and a player capable of playing both third base and left field -- if he makes the Yankees' roster. The 32-year-old has also had an excellent spring, as a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate Monday lifted his slash line to .326/.434/.488. Unlike Peraza (who is slashing just .167/.273/.188 this spring), Reyes isn't currently on the 40-man roster, but Kirschner speculates that New York may end of designating Peraza for assignment, as he's out of minor-league options. If Reyes does get a spot on the Opening Day roster, he'd be unlikely to play every day but could get semi-regular opportunities given his ability to play across both the infield and outfield.

  • Wenceel Perez SS | DET

Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Out one month with back injury

Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris said Monday that Perez is scheduled to receive an injection in his lower back this week and will be sidelined for at least a month, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

He joins Parker Meadows (arm) and Matt Vierling (shoulder) on the shelf, as the Tigers' outfield depth will really be tested early on in the season. Recently signed Manuel Margot is a new option for Detroit and the club has also brought back Ryan Kreidler from minor-league camp.

  • Jacob Amaya SS | ARI

White Sox's Jacob Amaya: In mix for starts at shortstop

Amaya is among those in the mix for starts at shortstop for the White Sox, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Manager Will Venable said that he will "probably be mix and matching" at shortstop, adding that Amaya is "obviously a great defender." Amaya has slashed only .182/.222/.195 in limited chances at the big-league level. Brooks Baldwin and non-roster invitees Nick Maton and Tristan Gray are also in the mix for starts at shortstop.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Out Monday with sore calf

Seager is out of the lineup for Monday's exhibition game against the Royals due to a sore calf, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.

Manager Bruce Bochy said the calf issue is nothing serious, but Seager's absence from a lineup that includes most of the Rangers' projected starters nonetheless raises some concern. Seager could be back in action for Tuesday's exhibition finale against the Royals, but if not, his status will need to monitored leading up to Thursday's season opener versus the Red Sox.

  • Chase Meidroth SS | CHW

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Fails to make Opening Day roster

The White Sox reassigned Meidroth to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Meidroth got plenty of run at shortstop this spring but managed just a .492 OPS in 16 games. The 23-year-old still has a good chance to spend a large chunk of the season in the big leagues, but for now he'll head to Charlotte. Jacob Amaya appears in line to serve as Chicago's Opening Day shortstop.

  • Austin Martin SS | MIN

Twins' Austin Martin: Fails to make Opening Day roster

The Twins optioned Martin to Triple-A St. Paul on Monday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

He lost out on the final outfielder spot to DaShawn Keirsey. Martin had focused primarily on playing the outfield this spring, but he can also play the infield and could return to more of a utility role at St. Paul.

  • Yankees' Braden Shewmake: Optioned to Triple-A

Shewmake was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.

Shewmake will open the season at Triple-A after going 1-for-12 with three strikeouts and a run scored over six games during spring training. The infielder will look to get into more of a groove at the plate with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in order to potentially earn a promotion to the major-league roster down the road this summer.

  • Max Muncy SS | ATH

Athletics' Max Muncy: Makes Opening Day roster

Muncy will make the Athletics' Opening Day roster, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Muncy will be set to make his major-league debut when the A's begin their 2025 campaign on the road against Seattle on Thursday. The infielder has produced a .289 average with one home run, seven RBI, seven runs scored and a stolen base over 38 at-bats ion 23 games during spring training. Muncy could begin the year as a starting option at second base due to Zack Gelof (hand) being unavailable for multiple weeks.

  • Leonardo Rivas SS | SEA

Mariners' Leo Rivas: Optioned to Triple-A

The Mariners optioned Rivas to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.

The 27-year-old was competing for a spot on Seattle's Opening Day bench but will instead begin the campaign back at Tacoma. Rivas had an .865 OPS in 63 games at Triple-A last year but struggled over 86 plate appearances in the big leagues with a .233/.333/.274 slash line.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Bound for injured list

GM Mike Elias announced Sunday that Henderson (side) will start the regular season on the injured list but hopes the absence will be measured in "days, not weeks," Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The news isn't exactly a surprise since Henderson hasn't seen game action since suffering the intercostal strain in late February, but his recent rehab progression gave him an outside chance of being ready for Opening Day. The 24-year-old took live batting practice Saturday and could be cleared to play in exhibition games in the near future, so there's optimism his absence to begin the season will be brief.
