  • Jorge Mateo SS | ATL

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Swipes two bags

Mateo went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases in Friday's 5-3 win over the Angels.

Mateo got aboard with a fielder's choice and a single in this contest, and he stole a base each time. The 26-year-old has maintained a fairly regular role in the lineup, though he's often hit in the bottom third of the order. He's up to five stolen bases with a .250/.313/.295 slash line, three RBI, three runs scored and a pair of doubles through 13 games. Mateo also hasn't drawn a walk in nine contests after earning four free passes in his first four games this season.

  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Swipes three bags in Double-A game

Volpe went 0-for-2 with three walks and three stolen bases Friday in an Eastern League contest against Hartford.

The Yankees' top prospect has largely struggled in his first taste of Double-A ball, slashing .146/.294/.341 with 16 strikeouts in 51 plate appearances. His considerable skills haven't been entirely invisible, however, as he has slugged two homers and notched five steals through 11 contests. Volpe broke through with 27 homers and 33 thefts across stints at Low-A and HIgh-A last season, but he has found the going much tougher so far at the Double-A level.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Three hits in win

Bogaerts went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in a 4-3 win Friday in Tampa Bay.

Bogaerts recorded a hit in each of his first three plate appearances against Corey Kluber, scoring in both the first and third innings. The three-time All-Star has five three-hit games on the season with four of those coming in his last six contests. He is 15-for-29 with six extra-base hits in the last seven games, raising his batting average to .385 for the season.

  • Rays' Wander Franco: Two blasts in loss

Franco went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs in a 4-3 loss Friday against Boston.

Franco homered off Michael Wacha in the first and fifth innings, accounting for all of Tampa Bay's runs off the starter. He came to the plate with the Rays down 4-3 with two outs in the ninth and nearly walked it off but Trevor Story made a nice play on a sharply hit ground ball to end the game. The 21-year-old is off to an incredible start with 11 extra-base hits in 13 games and a 1.111 OPS. He's recorded multiple hits in eight games this season.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Appealing one-game ban

Anderson, who is batting leadoff Friday at Minnesota, is appealing the one-game suspension he received for making an obscene gesture toward fans Wednesday in Cleveland, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

The 28-year-old will remain in the lineup Friday since he's appealing the suspension, and he's batting leadoff with Luis Robert (groin) set to sit out this weekend. Anderson has a .333/.351/.528 slash line with one home run, four doubles, five RBI, four runs and two stolen bases through nine games this season.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Making good progress

Baez (thumb) ran, hit and threw Friday and could return from the injured list sometime between Saturday and Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Baez appeared in just five games for his new team before hitting the IL with a sore right thumb. He's eligible to return Saturday, and it appears as though that's in play as a potential return date, but the Tigers still aren't sure whether or not he'll need another few days to heal.

  • David Fletcher 2B | ATL

Angels' David Fletcher: Begins rehab assignment

Fletcher (hip) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.

Fletcher has already spent 10 days on the injured list due to his strained left hip, but he'll miss at least a bit more time. Given the relatively brief length of his absence, he's unlikely to need a long rehab assignment, though the Angels have yet to specify exactly when he's expected to return.

  • Nick Allen SS | HOU

Athletics' Nick Allen: Gets first big-league hit

Allen went 1-for-3 with a double and a run in a win over the Orioles on Thursday.

The rookie collected his first big-league knock with his seventh-inning two-bagger and subsequently came home on Sheldon Neuse's single. Allen's first two starts have come at second base, as manager Mark Kotsay has kept Elvis Andrus at Allen's primary position, shortstop, in both games.

  • Otto Lopez SS | MIA

Blue Jays' Otto Lopez: On IL at Triple-A

Lopez is on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Buffalo with an oblique injury, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports.

The exact nature of the injury is unclear, but Lopez suffered it in spring training, so he could be back in a week or two. Lopez will provide infield depth this season after making a brief big-league debut in 2021.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Slugs three-run homer

Crawford went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and a walk in a loss to Texas on Thursday.

Crawford's three-run first-inning blast gave Seattle a five-run lead in what looked like it would be a runaway win, but Texas stormed back to pull out the victory. The homer was the first of the campaign for Crawford, who belted a career-high nine long balls last season. The shortstop is off to a strong start to 2022, slashing .310/.434/.500 with a 7:2 BB:K over 42 plate appearances.
