Report: Indians to promote Zach Walters, not Francisco Lindor

The Indians are set to bypass premier prospect Francisco Lindor and promote Zach Walters from Triple-A Columbus to replace the dispatched Jose Ramirez, per MLB Network Insider Ken Rosenthal.

It remains to be seen how much playing time Walters receives. Mike Aviles has been hitting well and will likely now start at short.

Walters has not hit well in the minors. He has just two hits in his last 25 at-bats and has fanned 27 times in 107 at-bats this season. His noted power has also been missing - he has just two home runs.

Lindor has nine hits in his last six games to raise his average to .269. The Indians have denied any intention of holding him back to prevent his arbitration clock from starting.

He took some poor swings on my fastball throughout that whole at-bat, and I felt like I did a good job reading his swing up until that last pitch. I probably should've thrown him a fastball."

He's hitting .296 with two home runs and 21 RBI in 189 at-bats this season.
