  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Goes deep in win

Edman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a 5-2 victory over Tampa Bay on Thursday.

Edman accounted for the Cardinals' final run of the game, blasting a solo shot to right field in the ninth inning. It was his first homer since June 14, a span of 26 contests. Edman did steal five bases over that stretch, and that continues to be his primary draw in fantasy, as he's gone 15-for-17 in theft attempts while compiling a quiet .238/.304/.386 slash line with eight homers and 32 RBI over 343 plate appearances on the campaign.

  • Pirates' Tucupita Marcano: Undergoes surgery for torn ACL

Marcano underwent surgery Wednesday to repair the torn ACL in his right knee, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Marcano tore his ACL on a play at third base July 24 against the Padres and will likely be sidelined through the early part of the 2024 season. The 23-year-old posted a .233/.276/.356 batting line with three homers and five steals over 75 games (220 plate appearances) this season for Pittsburgh.

  • Oneil Cruz SS | PIT

Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Cleared for running

Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Thursday that Cruz (ankle) has begun a formal running program, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Cruz has been throwing and taking light fielding practice for the last couple of weeks and has now been given clearance to ramp up the intensity of his workouts. If his surgically-repaired ankle responds well to the running progression, Cruz could feasibly head out on a minor-league rehab assignment within the next couple of weeks and return to the Pirates just before the end of August. The 24-year-old shortstop fractured his left fibula while sliding into home plate back on April 9.

  • Marco Luciano SS | NYY

Giants' Marco Luciano: Dealing with hamstring injury

Luciano was removed from Tuesday's game with Triple-A Sacramento due to a hamstring injury, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Luciano's removal from Tuesday's game was initially expected to be a sign of a promotion to the majors, but it seems Luciano was instead battling an injury. Luciano is slashing .244/.320/.422 in Triple-A and went 3-for-11 during his first MLB stint, so a return to San Francisco could be in the cards for Luciano after he recovers.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Dropped to ninth in lineup

Perdomo is down to the ninth spot in the lineup Wednesday versus the Dodgers.

Perdomo has mostly been hitting leadoff for the Diamondbacks in the second half of the 2023 regular season, but he is 4-for-32 with zero extra-base hits in his last nine games and his season OPS has fallen from .813 to .760 in that span. Corbin Carroll will serve as Arizona's table setter Wednesday against Los Angeles.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Back in lineup Wednesday

Adames is back in the Brewers' lineup Wednesday versus the Rockies.

Adames was given the previous two days off as a bit of a mental break while he battles through a slump at the plate. He's back at his normal shortstop position Wednesday and will bat fifth against Rockies starter Chris Flexen.

  • Marco Luciano SS | NYY

Giants' Marco Luciano: Set for promotion Wednesday

The Giants are expected to recall Luciano from Triple-A Sacramento prior to Wednesday's game against the Angels, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

San Francisco hasn't confirmed Luciano's promotion, but the infielder was pulled early from his game Tuesday with Sacramento, likely as a reaction to outfielder/designated hitter AJ Pollock exiting the Giants' 7-5 loss to the Angels on Tuesday with a side injury. Pollock could be moved to the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move, which would pave the way for Luciano to join the big club for the second time this season. The 21-year-old went 3-for-11 in four games with the Giants in late July and could be in store for a part-time role during his upcoming stint in San Francisco.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Marlins' Joey Wendle: Gets Wednesday off

Wendle is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Wendle often sits against left-handed pitchers, but he'll give way to Jon Berti at shortstop Wednesday while a right-hander (Graham Ashcraft) takes the hill for the Reds. The 33-year-old's move to the bench may have more to do with the Marlins and Reds getting together for a day game after a night game, with Wednesday's series finale beginning at 12:35 p.m. ET.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Socks 12th homer

Arcia went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's 8-6 win over the Pirates.

He took Ryan Borucki deep for a solo shot in the sixth inning before lacing what proved to be a game-winning, two-run double off Pittsburgh closer David Bednar in the top of the ninth. Arcia has hit safely in seven straight games to begin August, and since the All-Star break he's slashing .329/.398/.603 over 22 contests with five of his 12 homers on the season. The veteran shortstop's career high is 15 home runs, a mark he reached in 2017 and 2019, and Arcia could be poised to blow past that figure in 2023.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Phillies' Trea Turner: Showing signs of life

Turner went 3-for-7 with a walk, two doubles, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader split with the Nationals.

Facing his former club, Turner collected two-baggers in each end of the twin bill, extending his extra-base hit streak to four games. The shortstop has been mired in nearly a season-long slump to kick off the 11-year, $300 million contract he signed with Philadelphia in the offseason, but despite a career-worst .677 OPS he still has 11 homers, 22 steals (without a caught stealing), 40 RBI and 63 runs through 112 games. A big finish to 2023 could re-establish him as a first-round pick at 2024 draft tables.
