Jose Barrero SS | BAL
Reds' Jose Barrero: Starts swinging again
Barrero (hand) is set to begin a hitting progression Wednesday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Barrero has been idle for the past month while he waited for his left hand to heal after undergoing surgery to repair his hamate bone, but the 24-year-old looks like he's now ready to begin ramping up for a return. Since he'll essentially need to complete spring training all over again following his shutdown, Barrero is likely at least a week or more away from beginning a minor-league rehab assignment. Whenever he's activated from the IL, Barrero could push for work at third base or second base, depending on the health of Jonathan India (hamstring), Mike Moustakas (biceps) and Donovan Solano (hamstring).

Geraldo Perdomo SS | ARI
Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Not starting Wednesday
Perdomo isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Nationals.
Perdomo started the last three games and went 0-for-6 with two walks and two strikeouts. Sergio Alcantara will start at shortstop while Yonny Hernandez takes over at the hot corner.

Francisco Lindor SS | NYM
Mets' Francisco Lindor: Big day in twin bill
Lindor went 4-for-9 with two doubles, a run scored, two RBI and a stolen base across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of the Giants.
The shortstop played hero in the matinee, bringing home Brandon Nimmo for the winning run with a 10th-inning single, then Lindor scored the Mets' first run in a 3-1 win during the nightcap. The 28-year-old has regained his swagger to begin 2022 after a couple lackluster campaigns, slashing .310/.442/.619 through 12 games with three homers, three steals, nine RBI and 10 runs scored with a stellar 9:6 BB:K.

Nick Ahmed SS | TEX
Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Could return for homestand
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Ahmed (shoulder) could return at some point during an upcoming homestand that begins Friday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Lovullo, who mentioned the possibility of a rehab assignment, did not indicate whether a potential return would be closer to the beginning or the end of the homestand. The Diamondbacks open a three-game set against the Mets on Friday, followed by another three-gamer beginning Monday against the Dodgers. Ahmed took six at-bats and played six innings defensively Monday during an exhibition game at the team's training facility at Salt River Fields. The manager also labeled the injured Jordan Luplow (oblique) as a potential returnee along with Ahmed.

Orlando Arcia SS | MIN
Braves' Orlando Arcia: Records three hits
Arcia went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Dodgers.
Arcia singled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth and seventh, plating a run during the former. The 27-year-old is slashing a torrid .368/.409/.474, though the production has come in a 19 at-bat sample on the weak side of a platoon.

Paul DeJong SS | NYY
Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Steals another base
DeJong went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI, a run and a stolen base during Tuesday's 5-1 win at Miami.
DeJong delivered his second stolen base in as many games, which is an early-season surprise given he entered the year with only 16 steals over his five big-league campaigns. Regardless, the 28-year-old has a .185/.313/.370 slash line through nine contests and will need to improve upon those numbers to retain a starting spot over Edmundo Sosa.

C.J. Abrams SS | WAS
Padres' CJ Abrams: Sits against another southpaw
Abrams remains on the bench for Tuesday's game against the Reds.
While Abrams is out of the lineup for his second straight game, that doesn't seem to indicate that his role has changed. He's been in the lineup against every righty this season while sitting against every lefty, so his off day here against southpaw Reiver Sanmartin is merely a continuation of that trend. Ha-Seong Kim remains the starter at shortstop.
-
Johan Camargo SS | SF
Phillies' Johan Camargo: On bench again Tuesday
Camargo remains on the bench Tuesday against the Rockies, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Camargo started six straight games last week, including five at third base, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him slip back into a utility role. His .258/.316/.421 career slash line suggests he's a poor fit as an everyday starter at the hot corner, and his .269/.321/.346 line through nine games this season tells a similar story. Alec Bohm will make his second straight start at third base Tuesday.
-
Diego Castillo 3B | MIN
Pirates' Diego Castillo: Back to bench versus righty
Castillo is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Brewers.
The righty-hitting Castillo had started at either second base or shortstop in each of the past four games, though the Pirates opposed southpaw starting pitchers in the latter three contests. Castillo recorded an RBI in each of those last three games and looks to have secured a regular spot in the lineup versus lefties, but he'll be back on the bench Tuesday with the Brewers bringing right-hander Corbin Burnes to the hill.

Luke Williams SS | ATL
Giants' Luke Williams: Optioned, but eligible for twin bill
The Giants optioned Williams to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Before reporting to Sacramento, Williams will be eligible to play for the Giants in Tuesday's doubleheader with the Mets after San Francisco designated him as its 29th man, according to Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News.
The Giants will swap Williams, a righty-hitting utility man, off the 28-man active roster for a lefty-hitting one in Jason Vosler, who should give manager Gabe Kapler some more options off the bench late in games while lefty hitters LaMonte Wade (knee) and Tommy La Stella (Achilles) reside on the injured list. Williams had seen limited use in the Giants' first nine games, starting twice and logging just five plate appearances in total. He should get the chance to play on an everyday basis when he heads to Sacramento after Tuesday's doubleheader.
