Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol indicated Friday that Saggese will be used mostly in a reserve role, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Saggese was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Friday to take the roster spot of the injured Ivan Herrera (hamstring) and was immediately thrown into the lineup at designated hitter. However, Marmol noted that playing time priority will be given to "the guys that have been here, more so than the guy who's getting here." Saggese could see fairly regular reps versus lefties, but Nolan Gorman and Alec Burleson are expected to be the primary beneficiaries during Herrera's absence.

Abrams went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Dodgers.

Abrams logged his third multi-hit effort in his last four games. The homer was his 10th of the season and his second in June, but he's hitting a strong .294 (20-for-68) this month. The shortstop has also logged six steals over 18 games in June. For the season, he's batting .279 with an .832 OPS, 15 thefts, 24 RBI, 47 runs scored, 15 doubles and two triples over 63 contests.

Ortiz went 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored in Friday's 17-6 win over the Twins.

The 26-year-old shortstop piled up a season-high three RBI in his second three-hit effort of the year. Ortiz has put together a modest-four game hitting streak, and he's at least maintained a high average despite a lack of power recently. Across his last 12 outings, Ortiz is batting .333 (13-for-39) with two extra-base hits, five RBI, six runs scored and two stolen bases.

The Cardinals recalled Saggese from Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

The 23-year-old was up with the Cardinals for most of April while Masyn Winn was sidelined and was productive with a .341/.364/.512 slash line and one homer in 14 games. Saggese was boxed out for playing time, however, which resulted in him returning to Memphis, where he has an .836 OPS in 185 plate appearances this year. Ivan Herrera (hamstring) landed on the injured list in a corresponding move Friday, and Saggese could fill a large number of those plate appearances since the Cardinals likely still want him to get regular playing time.

Bogaerts went 4-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and three total runs scored in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Dodgers.

Bogaerts has at least one extra-base hit in four of his last five games, but the homer was his first since May 14 versus the Angels. The shortstop is batting just .235 (16-for-68) in June, which is right in line with his .239 average for the season. He also hasn't provided much power with a .653 OPS while adding four homers, 28 RBI, 32 runs scored, 14 doubles and 13 stolen bases over 73 contests. At his current pace, Bogaerts is in danger of missing the 10-homer mark for the first time since 2015.

Allen went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Thursday's 7-1 win over the Mets.

The 26-year-old infielder entered Thursday with just six extra-base hits this season, and the double was only his third extra-base knock in the month of June. Allen has carved out a steady role in 2025 -- he's started 64 of Atlanta's 73 games at shortstop -- but it hasn't yet translated to much fantasy appeal. He's hit eighth or ninth in the batting order in all but one of his outings, with Allen slashing just .230/.308/.268 with zero home runs, 13 RBI, 20 runs scored and six stolen bases through 211 plate appearances.

Swanson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Thursday's 8-7 loss to the Brewers.

Swanson reached base three times, highlighted by a 406-foot homer in the fourth inning. The shortstop has now gone deep three times over his past 10 games, a stretch that's included four multi-hit efforts, five RBI and four runs scored. On the season, he's slashing .244/.294/.435 with 14 home runs, 39 RBI, 42 runs scored and seven steals across 310 plate appearances.

Winn isn't in the lineup for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the White Sox.

Winn is getting a breather after going 0-for-4 with a walk in the first game of the doubleheader Thursday. The shortstop got a rare day off June 15, but he still logged two at-bats in that game. The last game he did not appear in was April 21 due to a back injury.

Lewis is batting .348/.392/.461 with five extra-base hits, 11 steals, 11 RBI and 19 runs scored over 21 games in the Arizona Complex League.

The Reds selected Lewis with the 51st overall pick in 2024 and are giving him a taste of the ACL before exposing him to full-season ball. That appears to be a good thing for the 19-year-old Lewis, as noted by Keith Law of The Athletic, who feels he could be a top-75 prospect now and in the top 30 by next winter. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder has played exclusively at shortstop for the ACL Reds, but he could profile at another infield position if short doesn't work out.

Dix is batting .341/.415/.476 with 11 extra-base hits, eight steals, 15 RBI and 24 runs scored over 32 games in the Arizona Complex League.

Dix, a 19-year-old middle infielder whom Arizona drafted 35th overall in 2024, looks like he's ready for the next level. He's riding a 24-game on-base streak and has a modest 19.0 strikeout percentage for the ACL D-backs. He's still getting his base-level strength back following shoulder surgery last autumn, but the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder projects 15-to-20 home-run potential the farther he's removed from the surgery. Dix has mostly played second base in the ACL but has experience at all infield spots from his days in Wisconsin.
