Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Slugs second home run

Ahmed went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Sunday's 9-5 loss to the Padres.

Ahmed slugged his second long ball of the season in the ninth inning, but the game was well out of hand by then. His hard contact rate is down and groundball rate is up, but the shortstop continues to dig out of an early-season slump. Ahmed's 5-for-20 over the last six games after batting .065 over the first 10 contests.

  • Chris Owings SS | LAD

Rockies' Chris Owings: Playing time on rise

Owings will start at third base and bat eighth Sunday against the Mariners, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

The Rockies have faced a slew of left-handed pitchers lately, which has allowed Owings to at least temporarily emerge as a fixture in the lineup. He'll start for the seventh time in nine games, with the versatile Owings having manned five different positions over that stretch. Owings is slashing a respectable .296/.367/.444 across 30 plate appearances this season.

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Out again Sunday

Seager (back) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Giants.

The 26-year-old had a scan on his back come back clean Saturday, but it's not much of a surprise to see him out of the lineup again a day later. According to Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register, Seager hasn't resumed baseball activities since exiting Friday's contest, but he's still considered day-to-day and a trip to the injured list isn't yet being considered. Enrique Hernandez will start at shortstop in Sunday's series finale.

Brewers' Orlando Arcia: On bench Sunday

Arcia is out of the lineup Sunday versus Cincinnati, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Scan comes back clean

Seager's scan on his back came back clean Saturday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Seager left Friday's game against the Giants with lower-back discomfort, but the Dodgers don't appear to be particularly concerned. He'll sit for at least Saturday's contest, with Chris Taylor filling in for him at shortstop, but it doesn't sound as though he's in line for a lengthy absence.

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Sits as expected

Seager (back) will be on the bench as expected Saturday against San Francisco.

Seager left Friday's game with lower-back discomfort and was expected to miss at least one contest. Whether or not he returns to the lineup Sunday remains to be seen. Chris Taylor gets the start at shortstop in his absence.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Sits against another lefty

Crawford will remain on the bench Saturday against the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Saturday's starter Clayton Kershaw is the third straight lefty the Giants have faced, and Crawford has been on the bench against all of them. He's started against just two of the seven southpaws the Giants have seen this season. Mauricio Dubon will be the shortstop in his absence.

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Unlikely to play Saturday

Seager (back) likely won't play in Saturday's game against the Giants, Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Seager exited Friday's contest with lower back discomfort, and manager Dave Roberts said after the game that he's unlikely to take the field Saturday. The shortstop is considered day-to-day while he works through the issue. Prior to Friday's game, Seager had reached base in every contest for the Dodgers this season, slashing .347/.396/.612 with three home runs and seven RBI.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Digging out of early hole

Ahmed went 1-for-3 in Friday's 3-0 loss to San Diego.

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Suffers lower back injury

Seager is dealing with lower back discomfort after leaving Friday's game against the Giants, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.

However, Roberts didn't reveal specifics regarding the severity of the injury. Whether the 26-year-old misses any additional time as a result of the injury remains to be seen.
