  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Not back yet

Baez (thumb) remains on the bench Tuesday against the Pirates.

Baez had been hoping to return for this game but evidently needs at least a bit more time. He'll take grounders and play catch Tuesday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports. Nico Hoerner starts at shortstop in his absence.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Homers in loss

Ahmed went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 9-7 loss to the Cardinals.

Ahmed led off the ninth inning with his 19th homer, trying to ignite a rally to stave off elimination from postseason contention. Alas, the Diamondbacks could not complete the comeback, and their postseason hopes were dashed. Since his return from a finger injury four games ago, Ahmed is 5-for-15 with three extra-base hits.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Named NL Player of the Week

Seager was named National League Player of the Week on Monday.

Seager slashed .500/.524/1.000 with two homers and seven RBI for the week to earn the honor. He has gone exactly 2-for-4 in each of his last six games, approaching the franchise record of nine consecutive multi-hit games set by Pee Wee Reese in 1949. Seager is in the midst of his best month at the plate, batting .300 with six homers and 21 RBI through 18 games in September.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Pops 11th homer

Edman went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, three runs scored and a walk in the Cardinals' 9-7 victory over the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Edman continues to swing a hot bat, launching his 11th homer of the season in the first inning off Alex Young as part of his seventh multi-hit effort in his last 10 games. The hot streak brings the 24-year-old's slash line up to a solid .298/.340/.500 slash line over 302 at-bats.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Marlins' Jon Berti: Four hits Monday

Berti went 4-for-5 with a double and three runs scored in the Marlins' 8-4 win over the Mets on Monday.

It was an active day from atop the order for Berti, who posted his first four-hit game of the season and scored three of his team's eight runs. He hasn't provided much power this season, with just six long balls in 68 games, but he's managed respectable numbers in other categories, with a .275 batting average and a solid .353 on-base percentage.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Homers, scores three runs

Turner went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, three runs scored and a walk in Monday's 7-2 win over Philadelphia.

Turner took Zach Eflin deep in the third inning for his 17th long ball of the season. The dynamic shortstop has gone 26-for-91 (.286 average) with 19 runs scored and 10 extra-base hits this month.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Goes deep again

DeJong went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a win over the Cubs on Sunday.

DeJong made a notable contribution to the postseason-clinching win, knocking a 437-foot shot to left in the third to erase an early 1-0 deficit. The slugging shortstop isn't finding much success during a tough September at the plate (.195 average), yet eight (three doubles, five homers) of his 15 hits on the month have gone for extra bases, leading to a solid 12 RBI.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Brewers' Orlando Arcia: First homer this month

Arcia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's victory over the Pirates.

The home run was Arcia's first since Aug. 18, and the RBI was only his fourth in September. Despite the offensive struggles, Arcia's defense is still earning him regular playing time at shortstop; he has started all but two games at the position since returning from paternity leave Sept. 12.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Registers another multi-hit game

Seager went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a victory over Colorado on Sunday.

Seager collected his second hit of the game with a 428-foot shot to right center field in the seventh inning. The 25-year-old has now registered exactly two hits in each of his last six games, hitting an even .500 (12-for-24) with a pair of homers and eight RBI over that span. Seager is slashing .273/.336/.478 with 18 homers and 82 RBI in 129 games overall this season.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Gets day off

Rojas is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals, according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com.

Rojas doubled five times over his last four games, but manager Don Mattingly decided it was time to give Rojas his first day off since Sept. 11. Jon Berti will get the start at shortstop in Rojas' place.
