  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Swipes two bags

Story went 1-for-4 with a walk and two stolen bases in Tuesday's win over the Giants.

Story has stolen six bases in his last eight games and is now 25-for-31 in stolen-base attempts on the season. Story ranks within the top three among MLB shortstops in doubles (39), home runs (28), RBI (92) and batting average (.295), and the fact that he's now tied with Tim Anderson of the White Sox for second-most steals at the position seems an added bonus as not much was expected from Story on the basepaths going into the 2018 season.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Braves' Dansby Swanson: Dealing with head bruise

Swanson sustained a head bruise in Tuesday's loss to the Red Sox, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports.

Swanson exited the game after being hit in the head by a Rick Porcello slider, but thankfully didn't suffer a concussion. The 24-year-old is listed day-to-day for now.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Braves' Dansby Swanson: Exits after HBP

Swanson left Tuesday's game against the Red Sox after being hit in the head by a pitch, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

An 86-mph slider got away from Red Sox's starter Rick Porcello, but thankfully Swanson was able to return to his feet fairly quickly. The 24-year-old should be considered day-to-day for the time being with the severity of the issue still unclear. Charlie Culberson served as a pinch runner and took over at shortstop for the Braves.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Phillies' J.P. Crawford: Summoned to majors

Crawford was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic Philadelphia reports.

Crawford was summoned back to the majors to provide additional infield depth with Maikel Franco sidelined due to a sore wrist. The 23-year-old has struggled during his time with the Phillies over the past two seasons, hitting a combined .202/.332/.319 across 57 games, so he doesn't figure to see much action down the stretch with the team in the playoff hunt.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Timely single in loss

DeJong went 1-for-4 with a two-run single in an extra-inning loss to the Nationals on Monday.

DeJong got the Cardinals out to a surprising 2-0 lead in the first off Max Scherzer with a timely single that plated Yairo Munoz and Matt Adams. The shortstop has hit safely in three of his last four games, and he's driven in seven runs over that span. However, DeJong continues to struggle with consistent contact, as he's now struck out at least once in 13 straight games.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Back in action

Crawford (knee) is starting at shortstop and hitting fifth Monday against the Rockies, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Crawford is back in action after missing the previous three games with a sore knee. The veteran shortstop, who is slashing .260/.328/.405 with 12 homers this season, will face southpaw Tyler Anderson in his first game back.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Rests in series finale

Ahmed is out of the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers.

Ahmed had started each of the Diamondbacks' last six games, recording five hits and 23 at-bats over that span. Daniel Descalso will effectively replace him at second base while Ketel Marte shifts over to Ahmed's normal spot at shortstop.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Remains sidelined

Crawford (knee) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Mets.

Crawford is being labeled day-to-day with a sore left knee, and since the Giants are effectively out of the running for a playoff spot, he likely won't be rushed back into action until he's 100 percent. Alen Hanson will step in at shortstop in the series finale and should see most of the reps at the position for the duration of Crawford's absence.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Bows out of lineup

Rojas is out of the lineup Sunday against the Blue Jays, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.

Rojas will sit for the second time in the series as JT Riddle gets the nod at shortstop. Considering Rojas is slashing just .257/.272/.366 and doesn't project as much more than a utility man for the Marlins over the long haul, he may be in store for a limited at-bats in September as Miami tries to determine if Riddle can be a solution in the middle infield heading into 2019.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Drives in one, scores twice

Story went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored Saturday against the Padres.

Story doubled in an RBI in the fourth inning and later came around to score in the same inning. He then came around to score his second run of the game in the sixth inning, adding an insurance tally for the Rockies. While he hasn't homered since August 19, Story continues to produce in other ways, racking up five steals and seven runs scored across 45 at-bats. If he remains aggressive on the basepaths, he has an outside chance at recording a 30-30 season while also providing a solid batting average and strong counting stats.
