  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Homer short of cycle Thursday

Turner went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Brewers.

After going 1-for-7 in his first two games since returning from the DL, Turner found his stroke again. The 24-year-old hasn't supplied quite as much power or batting average as he did in 73 games last year, but his 37 steals in 71 games in 2017 have still given him plenty of value when he's been healthy.

  • Zach Vincej SS | SEA

Reds' Zach Vincej: Joins Reds on Friday

Vincej was called up to Cincinnati on Friday.

Vincej will make his first trip to the majors after spending all of 2017 with Triple-A Louisville. The 26-year-old slashed .270/.325/.370 with three home runs and 38 RBI in 110 games for the Bats, and looks to provide added depth in the middle of the infield for Cincinnati.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Likely to stay at short with Russell out

Baez will likely continue receiving the bulk of the starts at shortstop after Addison Russell aggravated his plantar fasciitis, Patrick Mooney of CSN Chicago reports.

Russell's setback is expected to keep him out another three weeks, meaning Baez should keep getting most of his playing time at short. "To help the team, I will do anything," Baez said. "Playing short is my natural position, so I shouldn't have any problems with it." Baez batted .290 in August with seven home runs, 21 runs scored and 25 RBI, so fantasy owners hope he can carry over that success into September.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Robbed of home run by fan

Crawford went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in Thursday's loss to St. Louis.

Crawford appeared to have hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning, but the call was overturned after the umpiring crew determined there was fan interference. It was a controversial call as the fan's catch stopped the ball from hitting off of the top of the tin right field wall at AT&T Park, which would have still remained a homer. Crawford was understandably upset after the game, telling Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay that "there's no way there's conclusive evidence that it wouldn't have been a homer. For somebody to reach onto the field of play in right field, they would have had to lie down flat and have somebody hold their feet." Even though the slugging shortstop didn't get credited with the homer, he has still performed very well this month with a .292/.364/.469 slash line through 28 August games.

  • Marlins' Dee Gordon: On base four times in loss

Gordon went 3-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies.

Gordon nabbed his 48th steal in the seventh inning after getting caught for the 12th time in the first. The speedster doesn't display much power, but has a respectable .300/.340/.357 line while trailing only Billy Hamilton in steals and also ranking among the top 10 in runs scored.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Won't play over weekend

Seager (elbow) won't resume throwing until Monday, making him unavailable to start over the weekend, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Seager has been dealing with elbow soreness for a couple weeks, and while he's available as a pinch hitter, the issue will keep him from playing the field over the weekend. It may take Seager a couple of days to get ready after he resumes throwing, so he may not be ready to rejoin the starting lineup until next week's series against the Rockies. Chris Taylor is starting at shortstop Thursday, while Enrique Hernandez could also see a start at shortstop in Seager's stead.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Won't require surgery on wrist

Ahmed won't require surgery to repair his fractured right wrist and remains optimistic that he'll be able to return from the 60-day disabled list during a potential postseason run, Jarrid Denney of MLB.com reports. "Hopefully I can come off the DL and come back and help the team," Ahmed said Tuesday. "Hopefully we'll be playing in the playoffs and I can come back and help at that point."

Ahmed has been on the disabled list since late June after he first broke his right hand when he was struck by a 99 mile-per-hour fastball from the Cardinals' Trevor Rosenthal. After an arduous two-month recovery, Ahmed was on track to rejoin the Diamondbacks this week before he was struck by a pitch in the same hand again last Sunday, in what would have been his final rehab game with Triple-A Reno. Fortunately for the shortstop, his latest fracture isn't deemed quite as serious, but he'll still face a six-to-eight-week recovery timeline, putting him on track for a mid-October return at the earliest. With Ahmed out of the picture, Adam Rosales looks secure in his role as the Diamondbacks' top utility infielder for the final month of the regular season.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Phillies' J.P. Crawford: Major-league debut coming soon

Crawford could make his major-league debut Tuesday, Matt Gelb of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley's season will come to an end Monday, which makes Tuesday the likely day Crawford joins the Phillies. He has recently started playing second and third base in order to increase his versatility. That could help him earn up to three-to-four starts per week in September if manager Pete Mackanin is willing to sit his starters more frequently. Crawford had a terrible start to his season, but has turned things around since July 1, hitting .276/.377/.529 with 12 home runs in 210 at-bats.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Swipes home plate in rout of Pirates

Baez went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI, a pair of steals -- including one of home plate -- and three runs in Wednesday's 17-3 blowout win over the Pirates.

With the Cubs down 2-1 in the second inning, Baez created a run with his legs -- first reaching on an error, then stealing second and moving to third on another error, and finally taking a massive lead and then bolting for home when Pirates catcher Chris Stewart threw to third base. The Cubs ended up opening the floodgates, relegating Baez's heroics to a footnote, but his fantasy owners have to be feeling appreciative. After all, he's delivered a terrific August, hitting .291 with seven homers, five steals, 24 RBI and 21 runs through 27 games.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Brewers' Orlando Arcia: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Arcia is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Arcia will retreat to the bench following five straight starts, going just 2-for-17 (.118 average) at the plate during that span. In his place, Eric Sogard draws the start at shortstop while leading off.
